lumpectomy and then double mastectomy
Has anyone ever had a lumpectomy knowing that they ultimately plan on having a masectomy? I was diagnosed with DCIS on March 7. My husband is still recovering from major surgery (he had his colon removed two months ago due to ulcerative colitis) and I have four children. I ultimately want a double mastectomy with reconstruction (my sister died of bc in her 40s, I'm 45). I just don't think my family will be ready for another major surgery for several months, but I don't want to wait too long. Has anyone had expirience with a surgeon doing a lumpectomy (no rads) with the plan of going back to do a mastectomy later?
Anyone have any suggestions for how I can balance all of this?
