Chef    Did not know there could be a connetion between rads and diabetes.. Another thing to worry about..I have a son with type 1 (insulin dependant) and DH has type 2 so we are dealing with two types in our household..It does become second nature after awhile.. Reading nutrisinal value ofn everything I buy has become automatic

Hope you are all healing well.. Anafo.. I started using emu oil on my last day of treatment.. feels great.. MO did not want me to use it during treatment,, so a soon a I was done I started using it..

My rash has really calmed down and I am not a red as I was.. So thank you for sugessting it

Happy healing and happy life to everyone

    Ossa,

Who is that beutiful girl?  Lovely. Is that You? So happy your healing. If it wasn't for the discoloration I'de never know I had rads.

I just cannot understand why the RO wouldn't warn me about the possibility of that happening. The last few days I'm back down to my normal BG range so it must only be during tx. All better now.

I'm so happy for all of us who got past the rads and moving ahead and forward.  If your still in rads, stay strong and unscaved.

    Hi all,

Chef, I hope your blood sugar is under control and thanks for letting us know about the connection with rads.

I am doing okay,  burns are just dark spots now, but my arm is getting progressively worse.  I have limited range of motion without pain.  I am doing the exercises they told me to do, but I think I may need therapy.  I don't see any cording or swelling, just pain. I am going to have to call the dr on Monday.  Grrrr.

Ossa you look great! I am glad the emu oil is helping.  It is nice... I am still using it.

Hey January rads ladies. Are we all finished with rads by now? I finished 11 days ago, and my boost area is still a little red. The larger field has faded to a light tan. I didn't have a big problem with fatigue during rads, but AFTER it was over, I have felt more fatigued, especially in the last few days. I don't want to do anything, but do what I must, especially going for weekly Herceptin infusion. 3 more months of that and then I'll move on to reconstruction.

I have occasional pains in radiated chest wall. I wonder how long that continues. I'll ask my RO in 3 weeks.

How are you all doing as rads are wrapped up?

Hi Ann,  It sounds like we are all moving along at about the same pace.  I am 7 days out, a little darker in the boost area and the other is tanning off.  The areola area is scaly and scabby still, but not bothersome for the most part.  I also have the sharp pains which the RO said is completely normal.  Like OSSA, I also have some tightness in my breast and under my arm, but the only time it's bothersome is while trying to sleep.  Fatigue kicked my butt starting about week 3, but slowing feeling better.  RO said it I would be at 50% in 1 month, 90% in 6 months but to plan on one full year before feeling back to my old self.

    Ralston:  How are you doing?

I finished yesterday!  Hooray for everyone, one more piece finished.   Ossa my tissue expander feels really tight  and heavy too.  Rad dr. said it was fluid, it feels like it is about to burst!!   Hopefelluy will calm down soon.  The rest of my skin is red and a bit blistery, seems to be on the mend though.  I was told 6 months before exchange surgery, is that what anyone else was told?

sarasowise.. Happy dance for yoy.. welcome to the done side.... I am seeing Ps next week and will find out when exchange will be.. Sounds like six months is normal.. Was so hoping earlier as my DS is getting married in July and was hoping not to be lopsided then... tissue expander sits very high compared to healthy side  (nursing three babies,, you get the pictureUndecided) Any ideas how to even out??

Newskmom - Thank you for asking. I am doing better. The wounds are finally healing (no more oozing raw wounds). I have a "big square" where the bolus was and the color of my new skin is whitish/pink, just like people that get burn have... Definitely, something went terrible wrong (I notice that last week when the nurse cried when she saw me)... but finally I am healing.

Ossa - I have the same problem. My TE is so uncofortable... I am going to try to "make" my own bra, because I have tried everything to even out and buy all kind of bras ($$$$$$) and nothing has worked.

sarasowise, Congratulations!  You Rock!  Another step through this maze.  Speaking of steps... I'm limping my way off to CA this week :-).  Appointment with the ortho surgeon next week and hopefully I'll be back to walking like a normal person soon.  Oh wait, did I say normal? :-)

Is anyone dealing with more fatigue after treatment?  I seem to be wiped out everyday after work... more than before.  My days are blending into each other!  All I do is sleep and work!

Anafoe, yes, definitely. But it doesn't seem so strange to me. I have been under anesthesia 3X, had two major surgeries, had 8 chemos and 30 rads in the course of the last 8 months. I had no serious side effects and my blood counts have been pretty good, but still, that it is a lot to put a poor body through.

My skin is calming down really fast.. Went for my Herceptin yesterday and the nurse I had is also a rad nurse.. she was amazed at how good my skin looked and had not heard of Emu oil..

Mags: So EXCITED for you.  My heart beat as hard (during treatment) on the last day as it did the first.  Day one was from fear and the unknown and day thiry-three was from pure excitement.  Glad you are coming to end of this section of the journey.

Annafoe, yes, I am just tired and easily wiped out, I was told very expected for a couple weeks after final boost.

Ossa, I have expanders on both sides, so I know what you mean about sitting higher etc, my husband calls them bolt-ons!  I had to have non radiated side deflated during rads for angle of beam.  I get re-inflated next week and can't believe I am looking forward to it!  At least they will be somewhat symmetrical!

Ralston, wow I am sorry for all your pain, I have some blistering and soreness, yours must have been really painful!  Hope your healing. :)

Rocky, hope you get that knee fixed soon!  :)

Hope this is all another memory for everyone soon!  I am meeting with BS today to schedule port removal!  I can't wait to have it out of me!

33 down and 2 to go....party for Friday night with the girls is almost all set!!  Horray to all of us for being so strong to make it through this phase of treatment.  I am excited and apprehensive at the same time.  What will I do with all that spare time after 8 months of active treatment? HAHAHA

Congratulations to everyone that's on the DONE side!  I am so happy for ya'll.  I've been done since February 23 and I have to say I'm healing quite nicely.  No more peeling skin just new pink skin where the burns were.  I am still a little sore especially in and around the scar and under my arm.  My RO was right when he told me in about 10 days most of my breast would return to normal.  I'm still wearing my sports bras because my underarm and scar area hurts but I hope to be back in my regular bras soon.  Not rushing things at this point.  I am looking forward to spring break next week.  It will be so nice to lay around, mow the yard, plant some flowers, play with the grandkids and just do exactly what I want to do for 1 week!  Can't wait!

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week!

    HUGS!

So glad to hear everyone is healing and moving on!  For those still in and finishing soon: the end is in sight and it is SO good!

I finished March 2 and am doing well. Some dryness, but the scaling on my nipple is gone. I still use calendula cream daily and it helps. My fatigue is almost non-existent and I find daily exercise (walking) helps greatly at keeping it away.

    Woo Hoo!! Laughing

2 weeks out from the last boost. All in all, my left boob looks good! Still a little pink but very little peeling (I have a Clarsonic skin brush and used the delicate brush head to exfolliate) I can still see the radiation field but it is fading. Still using Cera Ve cream a couple of times a day. Back in a non underwire bra and it feels good to have some support. Some minor zings but no pain. No irritation. Saw my pcp for my annual and she says it looks great. I see the MO Monday and the RO April 9. Expecting the AI rx and will talk to her about the statin the pcp wants me on and the infamous scream scream RX :) I still am a little tired in the early evenings but I feel really good. Exercising daily and even back to work 1/2 days. Congrats to all of you that have finished & best wishes for those yet to cross the finish line.
