Help help!  What is the best way to get dog urine out of silk drapery panels. They are supposed to be dry cleaned. Oh this is bad.The small dog is the culprit in an area where I didn't know it was happening. Why the heck didn't the house cleaners mention it to me?

Wish I had some advice for you.  I have only dealt with the carpet and some of the things like Odoban to me smell worse than the urine.  I have used vinegar water before, but don't know what that would do to silk.  Is it by any chance washable silk?....that would make it easier.   Is there a big blotch on it like a water spot?   If it is only the odor you need to get rid of maybe, Fabreze?

For some time I've been trying to think of some way to check on cyber sisters who just disappear from these forums.  Sometimes it is just that they have been busy elsewhere, but no one knew how to reach them.  I'm active on over a dozen topics and I've noticed that several of my sisters frequent some of the same topics.  I figure that it would take only 3 or 4 of those women willing to keep my phone number and call to see if I'm OK should I disappear for an extended time and I would be happy to do the same for them.  If we start a movement to do that we would have few if any instances like the current one in The Fuzzy Room, where we are left wondering and worrying about someone we care for with no way of finding out.  This way personal information would not need to be published but someone could always check.

Just send a private message to someone to talk to frequently, maybe feel a connection with and talk to them about the idea, see if they want to exchange information.   Chabba

I think that could be a good idea Chabba. I think stage IV has something where they register thier numbers but I am not totally sure about it.

Maybe you could start a thread about it so we don't over ride the pets thread. Those who don't have pets could see it too.

There is a register on the board and I think Tam Tam is in charge of it.   I know I gave my friend Kathy as a contact in case anything happens to me.

Mikita ... I had a similar experience with a rabbit - Thumper (original name for a rabbit!).  I experienced several episodes of his not eating and had to force feed him every 2 hours.  He had pasturella (a highly contagious and deadly disease - also called snuffles).  When I woke up one morning I found him dead.  My uncle came over and we buried him - I kept asking my uncle if Thumper was really dead,  His little body was warm and soft.  I cried for days.  Very sad.

I just wanted to share the love of my life, her name is Lucy and she is 2, I had just finished with the reconstruct I had a no desire to get up off the couch and go back to living, and I saw an add in the paper for puppies, I told my DH we need to go  look, this little gal was laying up against my leg, I knew this puppy had picked me,  she is Border Collie, springer mix, I prayed for strengh to carry on and get back to living &  in God' sense of wisdom I ended up with the most beautiful , intelligent and highly energetic best dog ever!! She is my joy, we went to training and she loves the frisbee and her ball. She never lets me just sit ever!!

rubyj, your lucy looks really cute. Sounds like she came along when you really needed her.

I have to share a story about my energetic 16 month old lab/boxer. I own a Cobbler Shop which I operate from the basement of my home. I have not been able to work lately. So I have my employee coming in once a week to be in the shop if someone wants to pick up their items either fixed or not.So yesterday I get up from my afternoon nap and notice some white plastic in the yard. Of course the dog had been  in and out. Well finally it is really bugging me so I go to look, my employee had left a customer's boot outside for them to pick up in a plastic bag. The dog had seen it and thought it was something fun. She was so intrigued by the plastic bag that she just shook the boots out of the bag and let them be. I scooped them up into a paper bag about  5 minutes before the customer pulled in to pick them up. Oh the things I don't tell my customers.

I love this thread as it always warms my heart reading about everyones beloved fur family members.

I relate so much to our deep love for our pets. I wouldn't want to live without mine.

I have a very special girl. Her name is Jilly and she is a border collie. I was adopted and at the ripe old age of 45 I found my birth sister who I didn't know I had. To cut a long story short, I flew up to meet and stay with her for the first time. It was a very emotional and wonderful visit I can tell you. Anyway her dog had just had a litter of puppies and Jill (my sister) said she would like me to have one as a gift. Of course I choose the runt of the litter. All the others had beautiful black faces and perfect white markings. Jilly seemed to be the opposite. She had an almost white face, was very small and frankly was not going to win any prizes in the looks department, but she had my heart from the get-go.

My new to me niece was flying down to see me a couple of months later and she bought Jilly with her on the plane. I have to be honest and admit that by that time I was somewhat reluctant about getting another dog - and a puppy at that. I already had 4 dogs and I had reservations about fitting another one in but I didn't want to disappoint my sister as she was just so excited that I was getting one of her dogs and that I'd named it after her, so I was sort of stuck. If I had have changed my mind about Jilly, it would have turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life.

Well it's funny how things turn out. This little dog (who is now nearly 6) has given me the deepest love I have ever known. It is so unconditional and she just always wants to be with me. She will even forsake 'walkies' with hubby or daugher if I am not going. She will just stay with me. She is very naughty though when I go out. We have to dog proof the house, close all internal doors and remove anything at all from reach which is chewable. She has destroyed an entire lounge suite of cushions (and the support ones), too many bed pillows to count not to mention my very good and expensive duck filled quilt! (do you know how many feathers there are in one of those??? Oh my lord, we had feathers floating throughout the entire house!) She does it to punish me I know but I never get angry with her - I can't anyway because even if I raise my voice a little at her she will wee where-ever she is standing - which is usually on carpet ha ha.

My friends think I am too soft and they all say they wouldn't put up with it. But they are only material things and replaceable and now that we remove all temptations we only loose the occassional bath towel if I have forgotten to close the bathroom door. But the love I have from her is not replaceable and I feel an extra-special human that I can see her for what she is, not the naughty stuff, but the kind loving and infinitely loyal soul who needs me just as much as I need her.

I love all my dogs - I have 4 now. I said to my husband last night, imagine if we didn't have any dogs at all? it is unimaginable to us. They are our family and without them we woudn't be a family, just an empty couple - with lots of nice cushions.

Aussie,  I lOVED hearing about Jillie and want to see her pic.  Never once while I reading your post did I think Now that dog needs some discipline or a good spanking, instead my eyes were filling with tears and I was thinking What a sweet dog.  People who dont love animals, just don't get it.  Macata, I do so want to see the pic you posted....did you do it using the tree icon?.... I never can get a pic to post doing that, always have to do it with paste and copying from photobucket......I was sure you were going to say you had to repair the boot again and had to call the customer to tell her to give you another day to work on it.  Whew.

Patty, I agree...it sounds like Lucy came at a perfect time in your life.  I got Sydney right after I did my reconstruction feeling that I was on the road to recovery and was then going to live and would be able to take care of a puppy.........it was the smarted thing I ever did and my Dad always likes to tell me how my mother said when she hung up the phone after I told her   "She got a dog! what in the world is she thinking?!.    Well, she got so she loved that dog just as much as I did and he lived to be 17 1/2 and as I said it was THE smartest thing I ever did in my life.....he gave me more pleasure and love and support that you can imagaine and even though we now have three dogs, I will never forget my Sydney.    I hope all of you on here have many many wonderful years with your beloved pets and just love all of your stories.

Kathleen, My sister's rabbit was named Hydrangea because when she let her romp around in the  back yard, that was the bush she always went under....she had eight babies and my sister got a lst place ribbon in the county fair.   Not bad for a city gal!!.

I do love a good pet story, especially when they find wonderful homes.  All ours are from rescues somehow someway.  Danny Boy is our latest, a Newfoundland w Landseer recessive which is why he has bl/wh polka dot feet hahaha - Landseer is the black and white Newfoundland, there are also sable, grey smoke, black.   he was in a horrible kill shelter, had been tied in a pasture for years, huge knots around his neck, muddy dreadlocks to the ground.  He's lovely now, and happy.

Skunks  - yes, my skunks are desaced.  Lacey got herself locked in the guest bedroom the other night, no real heat in there but she managed to nest in blankies she pulled off the bed.  It was a first, and I was very upset when I did not find her in her den in morn, will not happen again.  Stinker butt!

Essa,  So sorry about Lacey.   My pet squirrel died the opposite way....I left him in the car because I thought it was too cool outside.  I would take him to work with me and put his cage under a bush by the office window, but it was one of those days that started out in the mid 40's.   Sooo to make a long story short, I came out from work at about noon, the sun had been shinking and he was there in a little ball and would not wake up....He did not have enough sense to go under the shady side of the cage where I have a cover over one end, but maybe it would have been to hot there also.   He did rouse and let out this weak litttle  eeech and stuck out his tongue and I was running around the parking lot crying, trying to give him mouth to mouth.  A co-worker saw me and shouted You can get rabies, but at that point I did not care, I just wanted to save Socks.   I could barely drive home, I was crying so hard.   He was so sweet and coming along so well....I am going to have to dig out some picks of him.   He want from hairless and having to be fed kitty milk replacement formula every few hours with a dropper, to a chubby little squirrel who was quite demanding and would stand on top of his little kleenex box house and screech when he saw me because he wanted food.   It took me a long time to get over that one because I totally blamed myself, but people tried to  tell  me he would have died on the sidewalk had I not picked him up and brought him home. So that is my sad squirrel story....I have tried to raise baby mice and birds and all sorts of finds over the years.

Lacey had a good life for many many years and you did an excellent job of giving her a happy home, but I know you are sad and will miss her. Do you have a pic of DannyBoy?

Yes they are the best medicine for sure. They are heart warmers and tear lickers for starters.

I am a big critter lover. I have 2 big horses, 2 miniature horses, 2 persian cats, 1older sheltie, 4 Maltese under 5 , a 10 month old Yorkshire terrorist.... I mean terrier and a guinea hen named colin fowl.

Its a lot to take care of but its just like a big family instead of a small one. Everyone is unique and loved for being themselves.

An hour ago just as my husband was walking by I saw Stewie, my Poodle puppy, chewing on something. I asked, "what does he have?" My DH starts simultaneously moaning and screaming and I finally understand that Stewie had his Passport!  His new passport that he just renewed. Stewie only knew that it smelled like Dad. My DH has left his work bag unzipped in the hall and Stewie had previously helped himself to the contents. I would think DH would keep it closed.  WHat a start to the day.

DH is actually very very good to the pets so I was surprised when he was yelling at Stewie, Stewie had not a clue exactly what he was in trouble for.

Poor everybody, that is what that story was about. I don't know that it will ever feel funny. Stewie is really good about chewing on his toys but all except one were on the other side of the baby gate. Luckily he doesn't have the crazy chewing instinct that our Golden Retrievers had. Still he does need to use those molars. He is 10 months old now and enormous.

Thanks for the comment KAren. You hit it right on the head.

I love this thread.  I love critters of all kinds but am really a softie for cats.  We have 3 inside only named Crybaby, Bear and Prissy, we have 2 that are inside/outside named Witchy Poo and Bud Ro, and a feral cat that lives outside named Stubby.

Crybaby is a male that was fixed and declawed and I adopted him from a rescue organization when he was about 2 years old, and he's been here since 2002.   Bear and Prissy are brother and sister that my husband found at a dump site, he brought them home and they fit in one hand, he came in and said "we are not keeping them".  They are 10 years old this month, rofl.  Witchy Poo came with us when we moved from the house we were leasing in 1998, since her owner could no longer take care of her.  Budro's momma brought him up here when he was about 6 months old and he never left.  He's about 7. Stubby, kept coming up to be fed but was really wild. I'd feed him every day and after about 3 months, I got a trap from the vet and caught him and got him fixed.  Now he's a sissy that cries whenever he hears my voice.  He now wants me to come out on the deck so he can rub against me and just for the last few days, he's let me pet him and he just purrs away!  These cats are spoiled rotten.

I also have a wild russian boar named Gordy.  I've raised him from a baby (he was 6 months old when I got him) and he's a whopping 425 pounds now.  He sure loves me and if we are out on the deck and he hears my voice he squeals until I acknowledge him and come give him a treat.  His treats are raw peanuts, marshmallows, apples, candy and basically anything sweet.  I never thought a P-I-G could be so much fun but he is so funny.  We spell it because he doesn't know he is a P-I-G, he thinks he's one of our cats since they love to visit him.  I got him fixed and so he doesn't have the big tusks like they show on tv.  He's a big baby.

My husband has built a chicken coop and we will be getting chickens soon too.  I wanted my grandchildren to have experience with critters so they will love them too.  Now all I need is a baby goat....they are so cute....I just love them too!

I hope I've not bored ya'll talking about my critters!

    ((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))) to y'all!

LaDonna ... not bored - love hearing about all your critters.  I love chickens - I think they are beautiful.  I'd love to see a picture of the p-i-g.

AussieKate ... pooh on those poor people that don't understand - those things are just inanimate objects whereas your furry friend is a living, breathing (and obviously chewing) beautiful creature.  I understand completely ... a rabbit I had chewed every bit of wood he could reach (baseboards, door frames, etc) EXCEPT the chew sticks I put out for him.  I have had a cat that would pee on anything (never did figure out his problem), cats that have left their marks (claws) on almost all my furniture, and of course cat hair everywhere.  I used to have 8 cats but over the years have lost them to old age.  I just have one now.

There is nothing like the love of an animal!

I am on vacation in Williamsburg, VA with friends staying at my friend Kathy's condo.  There are seven feral cats that hang out below our balcony so the lst thing was a stop at the grocery to buy cat food....they look up for it like it's manna from Heaven coming down.   They look to be well-fed so I am sure other visitors have been feeding them also.   I will take some pics and post them later.....two of them are beautiful and one looks a lot like George.  If they were not wild, I would load one into the car and bring him home with me, but they run if you try to get near them.

Pets are wonderful therapy--My Katie-kat takes about 3 baths a day in the bathroom sink--i put the water on low and she climbs in and bathes herself and she's so much fun for me--We sleep together every night and follows me from room to room always vocal. And greets everyone coming over. They bring pets into certain hospitals and homes--for some people it's just a good feeling.

I can't imagine life with no pets. I know I talk to mine, especially if I am alone.

I would love to see the pig but also the bathing cat. Photos anyone.

Marybe my DD has a ferral cat, she has had two. They took a lot of work to socailize but one becamse my favorite cat ever. He even slept on my head when I visited. DD has a photo. Gus was his name.

My Poodle puppy is 11 months old now. I have to get a photo of him before he gets trimmed again. He looks like a big red bear.  He is sweet and gives very nice kisses. Our DGD is the same height as his back and he has figured out how to not knock her over. She has also learned to say, NO! DOWN! in a commanding voice.

Gingerbrew- be careful with oxy anything as sometimes it can take color out - usually ok.... but have had it happen a couple of times. If you have a Coit cleaners in your area, call them. I believe they are nationwide. A year or so ago my cat brought in a live chipmunk( her speciality), once in the house she doesn't care about them so they just run around destroying and chewing and going to the bathroom. Well, this one died.... the smell was awful in the dinning room but I had searched and searched but no animal. Well one day a friend came over and she could barely come in the house the smell was so horrific. So we went looking again.... These curtains I have are silk and I call them my "ballroom" curtains as they are huge and full and tie back very high at the top. Yep the critter had climbed up to the top in the tie back and died but before he did he chewed through not the backing but the silk part and of course when he died left behind stain and smell. It was horrible.  The fabric was discontinued so couldn't find anymore and couldn't afford to have them remade anyway. So called and called finally found coit- they not only repaired the curtains but took all smell and stain away! It was $750.00! So now the doors to the dining room remain closed......

So my puppy is almost 6 mos- when does that chewing go away? He loves all the cat's toys... And he just chewed something important and my mind just totally went away... cannot imagine why I can't think of what it was.... loves chair legs, furniture, pillows, blankets, plastic, OH now I remember my sister brought me back from South America this beautiful bread basket and he ate it!

Also he isn't supposed to be a digger but seems all he does outside.... I want to plant some flowers - am I just dreaming on trying that? He is sweet and goofy though. He sleeps on the bed and is quiet but if he can tell I'm awake he slowly comando crawls over and puts his arms around my neck and starts licking my face - well that wakes you up! He is a Sheltie and just hilarious.

I'm going in tomorrow to have a hip replacement.  Fortunately,  my aunt lives in the same building and spends hours with my cat while I'm away.  When I come back he will follow me around and stick to me like glue until he realizes I am staying and then he ignores me! I hate to leave him but the pain in my hip is horrendous and needs to be addressed.  Hopefully, this will take care of my walking problem.

BTW, his thyroid level is again back to normal.

I just lost this huge post. Argh.............    Thanks for the info about Coit Cleaners Stanzie.  My panels are lined silk too and I hope they can be saved.  My carpet cleaners did a great job, I added another baby gate actross the entrance to the dining room. I hope to keep the house smelling good and the carpet clean.

kmccraw  I hope your hip replacement goes really well. I have known people who looked like they had taken off ten or more years just from the absence of pain in their face. I had serious back surgery and I recall waking up from surgery in the recovery room and saying, "The pain is gone,!"  I wish that for you as soon as possible. Everyone here is a big fan of PT for best rehab. I wish you a great PT therapist.
