I'm 60, dx with BC TN in July 09. Mastectomy followed by chemo and rads.

As a result of a trial I was involved in last year, it came to light that I was BRCA1. I hasd the phone call yesterday.

I had already decided to have a prophylactic mastectomy anyway, gut feeling, I think.

Still obviously in shock, but my first question, which someone may know the answer to, can my mastectomy be done at the same time as the ovary removal......?

I just want the whole thing over as soon as.

I was able to have my exchange surgery and oopherectomy at the same time, because my surgeons were willing to coordinate schedules and work together.  The oopherectomy was only thirty minutes long, so it didn't extend my time under anesthesia by very much.

Sorry you are dealing with this.  I decided to have my ovaries removed after it came to light that my risk of ovarian cancer was tripled because I had undergone in-vitro fertilization.
