Hi ej01, despite my taking Tamox still, I've started taking the combo I wrote about and have not had any problems, i.e. headaches.  Which DIM did you end up getting ?

Chris, here is what I posted on another thread:

I consider the following my baseline protocol: fish oil (not the synthetic vit D), Caproil (coconut oil), MultiMax Immune, extra Vits C8, E8, cal/mag and selenium, blend of mushrooms, boswelia for pain, different blends of enzymes (vege source only) including papaya, bromelain and charcoal, Q10, apple pectin, chorella, wheatgrass, holy basil, EstroSmart (DIM), whey + lactoferrin, krill for asthazantin, probiotics, Kyolic, herbal teas, lots of kefir and dairy from goat, milk, cheese and yogourt.

This is a work in progress and much more research to do. Will be adding vit MK4 essential for calcium absorption (just recently read that spirulina is very high in vit K)

I add herbs and spices to everything, I mean everything (good thing I don't have to cook for someone else on a daily basis, lol). I seldom eat meat, but eat small fish only a few times a week. Lots of grains and seeds (had forgotten beans, very important). Juicing not so much, I don't like throwing out all that fiber, got myself the Vitamix, what a treat !

I really really have to work on moving the body parts, too much computer time.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some things and like I said I have much more research to do. The list is getting longer and more expansive, but I figure I'm saving on consults with naturopaths which unfortunately I cannot afford. I do want to go to a TCM doctor plus get massages, ie. reflexology, etc. I want to know more about Ayurvedic medicine and homeopathy

Lots of work to keep healthy !!!!

I may have one comment Chris, I would not take both Vit D and fish oil as the latter is very rich in Vit D.  From what I read, it is the best source for that vitamin.

You may want to look up many threads on this forum and on the Complimentary and Holistic one, loads and buckets of great info !

Yep i agree, also taking Chaga, Maitake complex,Seaweed Complex,Noni fruit pills and lots of Vit D and Pectasol which is supposed to keep the cancer cells from spreading after the surg and also keep them from communicating with each other so they cant form a tumor or so Life Extension mag says. I am so not a dr,I just read all the junk and try to ask my son at UPMC if he has overheard anything from the French drs.

Also: cannot find fish oil without soy or burp-back and am planning on speaking about  it with cmp before trying one of the obvious options.

truebff: I do not know if you will like this one but the fish oil that I use is called Fisol, enteric coated fish oil, and is made by Nature's Way.  I order it on Amazon--it seems to be soy free and I don't burp--it also is fairly easy to swallow.

Thanks Mandy. I found out that dl-alpha-tocopheryl is most often derived from soy.So, just when I thought it was safe to buy most f them still have soy. I'll check out your brand though.

Hi CP, depending where you stand re supplemental phytoestrogens, you may want to consider the following.  I discontinued the ALA/Milk Thistle combo I was taking for liver detox because of MT being considered highly estrogenic.

"you may not be able to use it safely if you have cancer"

    http://diabetes.emedtv.com/milk-thistle/is-milk-thistle-safe.html

"Hormone-sensitive conditions such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids: Extracts from milk thistle PLANT might act like estrogen. If you have any condition that might be made worse by exposure to estrogen"

    http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-138-MILK THISTLE.aspx?activeIngredientId=138&activeIngredientName=MILK THISTLE

Thank you!!  Sometimes these protein drink products have too many ingredients.  It seems like I am popping so many daily supplement tablets that this sounded easier......

Tell me about it !  I had the hardest time finding DIM without soy !!!

Are you looking for a protein drink or a green drink ?  I take one of each

The green is from Amazing Grass and contains all the great greens (wheat grass, barley grass, etc), the cocoa powder...Smile, fruit and vege blen (acai, maca, pineapple, green tea, etc) EFA  fibre blend (oat, apple pectin, flax seed - the only exception I make about it) digestive enzyme and active culture pre & pro biotic blend and it tastes great

To the above I add the protein Advanced Whey by AOr with ALA and lactoferrin

These two cover a lot of ground !

If fish oil bothers you it may help to freeze the capsules and take them at night, or with other foods.

Hmm, thanks Maud, I didn't catch that.  Interesting, because this is the brand my onc recommended for me and I am ER+.  Have you managed to find a soy-free brand?

I read those two articles on milk thistle and it seems important to note that the plant (above ground parts) might not be so good, but that the more commonly used SEEDs used for many extracts/pills might actually help reduce estrogens in the body as well as provide anti-inflammatory properties and liver detoxification.

From the warnings, I would stay FAR away from the plant and salad part of the plants, but, from what I understood, the SEEDs are still very good.

(If I don't have the full picture, please enlighten me, though. Thanks!)

Momo, the only one I found, glad I found it though cause I think it's trustworthy, is the one formulated by Dr. Lorna Vanderhaeghe (Estro Smart).  Her mother had breast cancer and you can interact with her directly on her website: http://healthyimmunity.com/forum/section.aspx?id=19.

She warns repeatedly about MT, that's when I stopped taking it.

Truebff:  I've read that too. Problem is, just checked my bottle, they don't mention which part of Milk Thistle was used, don't know if many brands do ?

My brand (recommended by my local compounding pharmacist who works with many naturopaths) is  Designs For Health, Inc.and it says it is made from the seeds.

I really appreciate sharing information on this forum. I am always learning more. Thanks!

BTW, I have using the DIM-Chrysin cream now for a month. I am wondering if anyone out there has had any reactions to it. I *seem* to be a little dryer (my hair) though I'm not sure it's from that, but have no se's.

Thanks Truebff, I'll see if I can get it - MT works wonders for liver detox which I think is extremely important for us BC girls.

About transdermal DIM, sounds terrific - I can't afford to see a ND right now to get prescription; hopefully, I'll be able to in the near future !

Maud, Right now, the costs of the alternative tests, the right herbs and natural meds, and the expertise of my Chinese guy seem up there for me too, but, in a few months, it should be better and re-set to a doable monthly expense. Otherwise I am in trouble too. It's hard that going natural -which is less expensive than traditional- is not covered.

If you have a compounding pharmacy who works with natural practitioners, you might talk to them.  I think you could order it unprescribed. However, I would still recommend going through a natural professional as soon as you can to make sure you are getting the right, effective dosage for you.

    B123

Dim what I use is  simply put- broccoli and cauliflower-look up Nature Way  Dim Plus and that should help. It is suppose to help with good estrogen balance.  I am sure some of the scientific people good explain this much more scientifically.

Men can get the right dose through diet but women need these concentrated forms (DIM is concentrated) to help them balance estrogens.

B123, yes, many sisters use DIM instead of Tamox - its action is a bit different I believe.  It's presently in a phase II/III trial.

You will find tons of info on DIM including many threads if you do a search on this site.

If you google 'Diindolylmethane' you will get loads of scientific explanation:  http://www.dimfaq.com/site/articles.htm

Don't hesitate to ask us anything. Good luck Wink

Maud, thank you so much!! I will look up the sight you mention, I appreciate your help!

Can I just ask any of you, if this is out there and it has pretty much the same actions as Tamox, then why doesnt the MDs offer it? I have never heard of it until now, I am seeing it everywhere on this sight but did not know what it was.  I am very excited to find out! Thank you again! Many well wishes to you all..
