Hay-List

'FLEMINGTON racegoers could have been forgiven for thinking Hay List stepped out of a spaceship as he strode on to the famous course for his Newmarket tilt.

Rival trainer Rob Heathcote did a double take when he saw the hulking sprinter with trainer John McNair and snapped this photo of the six-year-old in the skin-hugging attire.

McNair said he was approached by a company recently suggesting the suit could be of use.

"It is like a compression suit. It works on the same principle," he said.

"You see a lot of cyclists, footballers and other sports people use them. They are designed to aid recovery, help with muscle fatigue.

"We have been using them for a couple of weeks now and I've got to say it makes a huge difference.

"Hay List wore them on the trip down (to Melbourne)."

McNair said it only takes about 90 seconds to  put on with "zips everywhere."

HAY List's connections will have the red carpet rolled out for them, as the likelihood of the hulking sprinter returning to Brisbane increased.

The manufacturer's notes say its Hidez recovery suit "uses a graduated compression method which helps circulation and supplies more oxygen to the muscle groups".

It also claims to speed up the removal of waste products, such as lactic acid from the circulatory system, resulting in the horse being able to exercise harder, longer and recover more quickly.

Judging by Hay List's deeds down the Flemington straight in Newmarket Handicap on Saturday, he will not be the only horse being zipped up in the future.'

Racy, too funny!Laughing Love it! And I love that it works, too. Wonder what the horse thinks about it.

Mary, bilateral lymphedema means both arms, or both sides of the trunk -- or both arm and trunk on both sides. It happens sometimes when there was surgery on both sides, even a prophylactic mastectomy. Nasty business!Frown

Katiejane, it's likely any custom garment maker could make you what you're looking for. Here's one example; try this and I'll see if I can get it to work:

    http://www.gottfriedmedical.com/products/listing.html#no_02

Scroll down on that page to where it says "Categories."  Go to number 7 and click on "show" right after the number. Go down to number 420 and click on that. Is that kinda what you're looking for?

    Be well!

Actually versions of 'compression garments' have been around in varing forms for show horses for many years. Primarily halter horses.

Kicks, we used to have a wonderful Appaloosa and after he almost got really hurt from a winter coat that shifted, and he was no longer clipped in the winter, he went coatless. All the fancy horses had many coats: fly sheets, rain sheets, winter coats. But no one had anything this cool.

I've had Apps since 1974. The only times I've clipped any were ones who were in heavy training/showing and stalled. I will not do 24/7 outs with a blanket even a turnout blanket - too much potential for injury or death. I've never been into halter/in hand be it Arabian or stock type so I never used such. I'm jumper and Dressage, driving, and pleasure/trail/back country. Don't show much at all any more. I have seen similar used for years - where they got them don't know - perhaps trainer/owner made them or had them made.
