Can some one please help me with explanation of the process.

I had my ultra sound bio today and not sure what comes next.

All I know is I have to wear this very attractive bra to bed tonight, not shower until late tomorrow evening, ice it as much as I can, take the bandage off tomorrow evening then the strips 5 days later.

Also no lifting for 48 hours...brother I am moving house this weekend...

I find out my results Friday.

Dr. asked me if I had a breast surgeon and instead of me saying why? what for?  I just froze and said no...why would they want to know if I need a surgeon if my results are still unknown.  Talk about feeling my way through a dark tunnel...

I know I need to ask more questions but part of it is fear and not wanting to know either.

Any information would be REALLY greatly appreciated.

    Jude,

When you get your results tomorrow, your doctor will tell you whether the tissue biopsied is benign or malignant.  If it's completely benign, you can breathe a sigh of relief and go celebrate.  If it's malignant, you will need to see a breast surgeon to have the malignant area removed.   In some cases, the tissue will show abnormal cells (not yet malignant, but not completely normal).  In that case, a surgeon will likely need to go in and remove the area of tissue around the site that was biopsied, because there might be malignant cells in an area of benign but abnormal cells.

You will probably want to wear a nice snug bra for at least a few days.  I strongly recommend you avoid lifting anything for at least the 48 hours.  I'd also take it VERY easy when you are moving this weekend.  If you overdo you risk causing additional bruising and slowing down the healing process.

I know you are scared.  Going through a biopsy and worrying about cancer and all the what-ifs that go along with it are terrifying.  We've all been there, and we do know how tough it is.  While we all tend to imagine the worst, try not to get too far ahead of yourself.  If you have any questions, ask away.  Chances are very good someone here will have the answer for you.  If you need to talk about your fears and anxieties, or to just vent and blow off steam, we're right here for you.

My fingers are crossed for benign results for you.  Please keep us posted.

Nettie, I didn't read the above posts so maybe this was answered already but just wanted to let you know that I too had an ultra-sound guided biopsy and had a lot of bruising later rather than sooner. Matter of fact, two weeks later I was DARK purple and boob was almost all yellow. So it does happen. I wouldn't worry.I do think it is normal.

Just found this thread nearly four years later and it's still a keeper!  I just had the US/needle biopsy two days ago and I was concerned that my brusiing is getting worse.  You've allayed my fears!  It's been hard because the biopsy was on the left side and I am left-handed, so I tend to pick everything up and do everything with that hand.  It doesn't feel like I'm doing too much because I'm not in pain, but I think I'll have to do even less.  Thanks also for the info on fish oil and vitamin E, I've been taking both, so that might be having an effect.  I am sticking to the tylenol however.  Anyway, thanks for this thread and this space to connect with other women who are going through the same thing.  It really makes a difference!!

Hi everyone!  Me again.  First the good news:  I do not have breast cancer.  Got the good news a few days ago.  What a relief!

Second, I'm having trouble with the after effects of my needle biopsy.  As I mentioned above, I bruised extensively to the point where the entire lower half of my breast was dark purple.  I've been icing it periodically and the bruising is fading, but I seem to now have stinging and extreme sensitivity around the nipple area.  I can also feel a knot in the lower half of my breast that wasn't there before the biopsy.  Anyone else had this?  It also itches a lot, but it's too tender to scratch.  Should I just continue to ice it as able or does any of this sound like cause for concern?

Thanks for any advice!  I'm sending prayers and good chi to everyone else awaiting her own test results!

    Mary

Hooray on the good news!  As for the bruising, the core needle biopsy I had was bruised for a good three weeks.  At the end of it, I could feel a knot where the cores were taken.  Since I was having surgery soon and it wasn't unbearable we didn't do anything about it then.

You're obviously concerned about it and it's uncomfortable or hurting you, so call your Dr about it.  See what he/she has to say or do.

Thank you, Galsal!  I'm seeing my regular doctor next week, so I'll see what she says then.

Did the knot you had dissipate by itself over time?  Or did the surgery take care of that?

Hi, ladies. First of all.....congrats, MaryElizabeth, on the great news! I found my biopsy to be a LOT worse than the lumpectomy and node biopsy. It hurt like the dickens while it was being done, and was VERY sore for quite a while afterwards. I also felt funny zinging pains throughout that breast for several weeks and I also felt a hard knot in that area like Galsal. I didn't bruise much, but the discomfort was a lot more than what I expected....the lumpectomy was a piece of cake in comparison! So...my point is that you probably shouldn't be alarmed at the bruising and any discomfort...there was a lot of digging around going on in there so it makes sense that it will be sore for a while. Of course, if the area gets hot and very red, I would see your Dr as soon as possible because there may be an infection going on.

Thank you, Snoopsmom!  Yeah, the "zinging" pains are annoying and sometimes surprise me and take my breath away for a moment.  I wiondered about infection, but I think it's settling down a tiny bit each day, so I'm not worried about that.  The bruising has receded a LOT and is mostly just around the nipple area.

I feel like I was well-informed about the procedure, but all I was told about aftercare was that I might have "a little" bruising and that I could return to "normal activity" in a couple of days.  Yeah, right.  It's been 12 days and I'm still not doing anything too demanding.

So glad to find the amazing women here to help me with the REAL experience!  I wish my mom had the internet 25 years ago when she suffered through breast cancer.  It's really the best use of this world-wide-web to find instant support and reassurance.  Thank you again, ladies.  Even though the news was good for me this time, it might not always be so and I'm glad to know you're here.  Peace and good health to all!  Mary :-)

I can see that this thread hasn't been active since 2012 but wanted to post here because I had a core biopsy (they call it "vacuum assisted" in the UK) 2 days ago and sore doesn't begin to describe how my L boob feels:). I, too, am a leftie, like Mary Elizabeth and find that even brushing my teeth causes my boob to giggle and I am not even big busted! I am waiting for the results of the biopsy and in the meantime am very bruised so the above posts have been very reassuring. I was also advised to wear a "sports bra"-was a bit peeved that the nurse (as nice as she was) assumed I own one. I don't. All my bras are push up bras and I actually find it more comfortable sleeping without one on. Not sure if this is a problem (that I'm not wearing one to sleep)?

If anyone is still active on this thread I'd welcome your thoughts...should I be buying a sports bra?

Best wishes to all of you who are awaiting results and to those going through treatment at the mo.
    xx
