Last friday I got the call from a NP telling me by biopsy was positive for IBC.  Then yesterday, Stanford hospital called and said that it was not IBC, I was positive for IDC.  So I called my doc back and said hey, what's going on? Who is right? And he said they both are.  That I have IDC with some skin thickening which makes it inflammatory.  Anyone else had this problem? I go tomorrow for a MRI and then see the tumor board at Stanford on Friday.

I'm sorry that you got the call.

IBC is the clinical presentation...how it looks. Most descriptions are the breast is swollen, red, thick, increasing rapidly in size. IDC - invasive ductal carcinoma is what the cancer cells look like under the microscope. It is in the ducts and it has started invading out of the ducts. So yes it is both IBC and IDC.

My breast has had no rash, no increase in size, the only symptom is the thickening shown from the mammogram.  Which I've read is also a symptom of IDC.  Thanks for your reply, I guess I will find out everything for sure on Friday.

Yes, and thank you so much for asking! They say it's not inflammatory so I'm taking that as a blessing.  I have to have a couple of more tests and waiting on the tumor marker so I can start chemo.  Talk about a wild ride! Never a dull moment with cancer in the house!!!

I have the same confusion.  In December I had symptoms of IBC and had already had a biopsy saying I had IDC and ILC.  i went to Birmingham to Onc and Surgeon and they did a skin biopsy.

My skin biopsy said I was positive for it cancer in my breast skin tissue.  I went into panic mode.

My onc said that IBC was a clinical diagnosis and I no longer have those symptoms.  I have been on Herceptin and have had my 1st chemo.  Surgery will come after chemo.  I would love to hear what your doctors have to say.  Please keep in touch.

I hope you get good news.

They're saying I have to have chemo first for about 4 months before I can have surgery.  I completely understand the panic mode.  Such a very scary time.  We're still waiting for the results of the tumor marker, they want me to have a PET scan and CT scan.  Also waiting to do a biopsy to see if it's in my nodes.  They seem to think it is already, just need confirmation.

How were things after your first chemo? They're hopefully going to get it started by the end of this week.  Don't look forward to having chemo, but I want this nasty thing out of my body.  Really don't want to be sharing it with the cancer anymore.  Let me know how things keep going with you .
