Wasn't sure where to put this.....I am writing in concern for my SIL who was DX with extensive DCIS in the right breast 4+ years ago. She had breast reduction, RADS, & Tamoxifen. By accident they found something on her thyroid when they took a chest X-Ray a few weeks ago, was then sent for a MRI. She saw the Endocrinologist yesterday as he said they found multiple tumours on her RIGHT side of her thyroid. One of them being 1.3 cm. He said the probability of CA in them is 40%. She also had a DX of Hypothyroidism about a year or so before DX of BC. I am just wondering if anyone is or has gone through something similar since having RADS for BC. What of the chances of it being BC again? Any input is greatly appreciated!

I had a thyroid cancer scare about a year after treatment ended.  I have four thyroid nodules that had been followed for a couple of years before the BC diagnosis -- hypothyroid for longer than that.

FIrst off,  half of people 50 years old or older have thyroid nodules, any nodule over 1 centimeter has to be tested.

I got sent to have them looked at with a endocrinologist after the nodules had gotten smaller after chemo, and a year later some were smaller and some were larger.   The thyroid area had shown activity on the PET/CT scan I had before BC surgery ,  one of the nodules was "hard" and  my radiation had included the suprclavical lymph nodes.

The endo did a fine needle biopsy and let me know tha tshe thought it was probably cancer.  She was surprised when the biopsy was B9, but with a lot of lymphocytes.   She ordered a blood test that showed that I had Hashimoto's thyroiditis  -- it's the most common cause of hypothyroidism. 20% of woemen are diagnosed with Hashimoto's in their lifetime.  It's an autoimmune disease of the thyroid which causes inflammation.  The imflammation is what had showed up on the PET/CT,and the shrinkage of modules had been due to chemo taking out my immune system and lessening the immflamation.

I don't know what your SiL's situation is, but I've had experience with a B9 outcome after a thryoid cancer scare.

Good luck to your SiL, going through the testing and anxiety is no fun.

Megadotz....Thanks so much for your input.  I'm doing all the worrying for her!!!  Not that both our lives aren't full enough.  I am so glad you got the B9!!!!  Such SWEET music to your ears!!!  I don't remember the timeline before or after BC DX but she had an ovary removed & cyst taken off her kidney because both had "Involved"  complex cysts.  (I know one was before & one was after.)  Both were B9 but it's scary to me that all this stuff is showing up all over her body.  I know some have had problems years later with the RADS...no CA but still I'm sure it could happen.  Just call worry wart!  I'm sure the Endo will check things out.  Mean while I will help by finding out what ?'s she should be asking!  When your your life is super busy with kids & work sometimes you forget things to ask.
