Well..........preliminary diagnosis.....infiltrating ductal carcinoma in one site. Either lobular or ductal carcinoma in 2nd site........Given choice of another lump + rads or BMX. May need chemo either way depending on oncotype score. Having MRI soon. May change plan. As of now I'm scheduled for lumpectomy on March 23. I don't know Grade or ER/PR/HER2 status yet.  I am dumbfounded........numb. I just finished rads on December 14th. I know many will disagree but I'm just not ready to have BMX yet........Thank God for this site and the wealth of information and support it provides.

    Wow....what a kick in the teeth.  I can't imagine how you must feel after thinking this was behind you.  I am so sorry that you are still dealing with this.    Hopefully the MRI will give you and your doctors more info and will help you know how to proceed.  

    I just wanted you to know that I am sending you hugs, wishes for peace and ease and enough patience to get through the next couple of weeks.

    so sorry you have to go through this again, and so soon after finishing your rads treatment. Wishing you strength as you make decisions on your next round of treatments. As 1openheart wrote, hopefuly the MRI will provide some clarity around what is needed. Jo

    rn4babies.......so very sorry to hear that you have to deal with this again and so soon.  I too had a recurrence after just finishing my rads and then again in between chemos.  My pathology is a bit different than yours but I imagine the stress of it all is the same.  

    The decision is yours so don't let any dissenting thoughts cloud your mind.  Do what is best for you. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

    Well crap! So sorry to hear this. Take your time making your decisions and do what feels right to you. I had a UMX and the one I have left is "busy" (fibrocystic) so is a challenge to follow but my instinct was this one would be OK and I am completely comfortable with my decision come what may. The key with all of this is to make decisions with a cool head and not from fear. You have a pretty good head start having been through the mill already I should think.

    I'm so sorry! Is it in the same breast? If so, does your BS think it was there at time of original dx, but not seen? Thinking of you....

    Everyone, thanks for the hugs and prayers. momof3boys -- No, it is in the "good" breast. (I guess it's not so good anymore) My surgeon was completely surprised. I had just finished rads on the other breast 12/14 and this was my followup mammo. The "good" breast hadn't had a mammo in 15 months so he thinks this may be pretty aggressive. All of the path report isn't back yet.  If the MRI shows something else lurking in there, my plan of care will change.

    rn4babues- I'm sorry you're going thru this for a second time. It just seems so completely unfair! If I'm reading correctly, there are 2 sites that would be removed thru lumpectomy? Can you have radiation again? I'm guessing you can since it is in the opposite breast?

    You're in my thoughts... Where are you in PA? I'm in Clarks Summit, just a bit north of Scranton....

    momof3boys - My surgeon told me that since the sites are close to each other he felt a lumpectomy would be an option. I can have radiation again since it's in the opposite breast. I just got the rest of my path report. It looks like I had a combo of DCIS, ILC and IDC! ER+/PR+/HER2- in the right breast. I only had DCIS in the left breast the first time around......I'm from just south of Pittsburgh.

    I'm in a similar spot, and I just hate hearing that someone else is going through this awfulness.  I was at my last chemo session a few weeks ago and told the Dr. about a lump I felt in the breast that I had surgery (lumpectomy) on so he sent me for tests and they found DCIS in the OTHER breast - a number of them spread out over 6 cm.  So I'm scheduled for BMX on April 6 and haven't decided what to do about reconstruction yet. It's hard to make any decisions when your brain so so numb, isn't it?  My heart is with you.

    I had lumpectomy 6/29/11.  Finished rads on 11/16/11.  Just went for my first follow-up mamo.  Found calcifications in the other breast.  Radiologist recommended a stereotatic biopsy.  Seeing breast surgeon on 3/22.  I can't believe this is happening.  I knew it could but can't believe on the first follow-up.  My dad died six weeks ago.  This is just too much!
