Activities that are high risk for LE?

Once I posted here on the LE forum to ask about cautions I should be taking to avoid LE after SNB.  So many of you were so generous with knowledge and support.  I was grateful.  And looking back on it, I realize that you were all so selfless.  I felt then, and I feel now, that you all are warriors, not merely survivors.  And you wage a war on all of our behalfs.

I selfishly am returning to ask for help once again.  I still try very hard to follow your sage counsel.  I remain cautious, these 5 months out from surgery.

I am now faced with a new question, though.  I am finding I have imbalance issues that are showing up in my legs while running (due to umx without recon) and it was suggested that I try a wrist weight since I so don't want to wear a prosthetic while running.  I like the idea, but I have been very cautious while exercising to avoid swelling or restriction to my left arm (the surgery side).

Is it a high risk activity to run with a wrist band (with a very minimal amount of weight) on my wrist?  I would love any of your feedback.  And, again, thank you all for being such strong advocates for all bc survivors who must navigate LE risks in a sea of doctors that are frequently clueless...

CLC, I'm not a runner and was hoping some of our runners might drop in here when I saw this post last week or so. But I did ask someone who is very qualified in exercise physiology about using a wrist weight while running. She is not a fan...the weight puts stress on the arm and any velocity from moving that arm while running adds to the stress.  Her suggestion is to work with a personal trainer or running coach to try to work on balance without using the weight.  I do hope you get some additional insights from others here.  --Carol

Thanks, Carol! I appreciate the efforts! Your encouragement may just get me to go and make a new appointment with the PT I don't see anymore...:)

Glad to hear that, CLC. At least you can get some options to think about and try, and then see what works and what does not. I do lots of cardio (but no running) and also weightlift with a trainer. I have always been wary of mixing anything that entails speed with weights, because I think control and form are important tools in preventing resistance training injury.  Wrist weights are not terribly heavy, but the torque when wearing even a small weight at the end of the limb must be somewhat significant.  I'm just guessing here, though...a PT should have some very good insights.
