TUMOR MARKERS AFTER DCIS?

I am one year post diagnosis.  I had my double mastectomy in April of 2011.  I am refusing to have Tumor markers drawn because I have heard that other things could give false positve results.  I also can not take the stress of waiting on any more test results.  I know that sounds crazy.  If I had had an invasive cancer, I would not refuse them , of course.  I am just now in a place in my life where I can relax.  I am all healed from my reconstruction surgery and I have never felt better.  My doctor usually does them on all his patients, but he understands my point also.  Does anyone else NOT have Tumor Markers drawn after DCIS?

I had DCIS with a microinvasion and had a single mastectomy.  I've never had tumor markers drawn and it's never been suggested by any of my doctors (surgeon, PS, oncologist, PCP, gyn).

    Thanks Beesie,

Do you think Im being unreasonable to refuse them?  I have an appointment next week and I hate to feel non-compliant.  I told him he can ultrasound me and examine me all he wants....lol

I just asked this same Q to my Surgical Oncologist and she said NO on the need for tumor markers.

    Hope this helps.

    Blessings!

In November 2010 my onc ordered the usual CA, CEA, CA15-3 and CA 27-29, most were in the normal range.  The CA 15-3 was in the high normal range but the CA 27-29 was 45.9, normal for that is 38.6 U/mL.  In February of 2011 the CA 27-29 was 42.1 then in July 2011 it was 41.4.  In March 2007 I had a lumpectomy 2X because of DCIS which the margins were to close, Rads and 4 more months of Arimidex.  The CA 27-29 can be elevated due to B9 reasons so after a CT can and uterine ultra sound, it showed I still have uterine fibroids since 2003 and remain the same.  My onc and I are pretty sure the abnormal TM is due to the Fibroids.  But of course every 6 months I have to have the tests done.  I wish she never ordered them because it scared the SH** out of me. I lost my Mom to this beast 16 years ago.

I was a little over 3 years out when she ordered the tests.  Even she had a suprised look on her face when she opened the folder.

I'm nearly 2.5 years out from diagnosis -- Never offered to me, never suggested.  I'm not "looking for trouble" and already had my false positive MRI.
