Shore... my exchange surgery is coming up on march 16th. I also plan to wear some makeup. Just a little eyebrow pencil and a maybe a touch of mascara on my remaining lashes. I have also started to freak out about the hair deal during surgery. I am one of those that doesnt go anywhere without the wig. Still debating about whether to wear the wig or a little turban hat. I"ll probably go with the hat. The hair deal has been really tough. I feel like mine is growing in pretty fast overall and its still hard. I finished chemo 1/27/11. It started growing in around week 7 of the weekly taxol. I have full head coverage and its about 1/2 inch long, but lays very flat and stuck to my head. I cannot wait until it grows enough to toss the wig. I'm just not sure how long it needs to be before I am comfortable going wigless.

JulieLynn, I know, with my luck id wake up with the wig crooked looking like an old man with a bad rug. Maybe I will have a hot flash while im under and sweat so much that one of my penciled-in eyebrows rubs off too!
-
Ccjj, it does really suck. Here's hoping we both grow hair fast! Im taking all the vitamins, and read that olive oil scalp massage can help. Im sitting in bed now, smelling like an anti pasta salad.
-
Shore 1 - Too funny!! Or take off the wig yourself during a hot flash (not knowing of course) and throw it on the floor...or at the doctor.... Eyebrows gone, eyeliner smeared everywhere, hair half on.....such a pretty pic. Thank goodness ours will grow back - Can you imagine having a bad rug for life?
Hmmm, I may make my husband leave his phone at home so he can't take pics of me right after surgery.
-
YaYa, Looks good!!!
Marjie, you look great with both your pre and post chemo hair!
-
Love my fuzz! Come on hair, grow, grow, grow!
-
ccjj: Let us know how your exchange goes. Mine is scheduled for March 28 and I'm going to see if they'll let me keep a hat on. I don't wear a wig, just hats. I was worrying about having surgery with my head naked! I would love to have 1/2 inch of hair already.
Dechi: I'm with you - come on hair, grow, grow, grow!.
-
Deb - my exchange is 3/28 also. Will be thinking about you & look forward to hearing how you're doing after.
Ccjj - good luck on 3/16. -
Ladies where did you get your latisse from? I am tired of my stubby little lashes and am ready to try latisse...
-
i bought mine from a place that does botox, etc. here in oklahoma city. they were having a buy one/get one free promotion. still ... it was $120! i'm going to see if my opthalmologist will prescribe it for me for hypotrichosis (less than normal hair somewhere on the body, including the eyes). if he will, the price will probably be $5 or so. latisse is the commercial name for a medication that treats a specific eye disease and when it's sold as 'latisse,' it's stupidly expensive. i'll let you know what my dr. says.
-
i got a Rx for latisse from a dermatologist. My left lashes are unbelievably LONG! my right side is like half the length.. not sure why, but i'm continuing to use them on both sides and my eyebrows. it works!
-
found out my PS deals with Latisse.. I have appt. with him for after rad eval..( too see damage to skin and time frame for exchange surgery) Will ask him about it
yaya thank you. look forward to hearing what you find out
-
YaYa - love the new avatar!
-
My PS gave me my Latisse for free. She says she is given 3 month packs from the company especially for chemo patients. Told me to let her know when I ran out and she would give me another. Can't hurt to ask your PS.. Good luck!
-

Hair growth Jan 28-March 7.. It is growing woohoo

-
Thank you momof2 I will ask my PS when I see him in 2 weeks
-
Looking good, Ossa!
-
ossa, your hair is coming in great! i like the color, too.
thank you, luvrving!!
-
Your hair looks great Ossa!
-
Ossa... Love your hair color. Mine is coming in a horrible grey/black color. I've been coloring it so long I didn't realize it was that grey all over. Cancer, boobs gone, bald with grey hair coming in. All at 44. I thought 40 was supposed to be the new 30 or something like that. Not..
-
Thanks ladies.. haircolour is out of a box
Mine came back white. Thinking I am not going to colour for a while so I can see what colour my roots are now -
Marjie, good description - "blackish grayish ick "It is what I have now! Im waiting 2 more weeks to color. Hope it takes!
Ossa, looking good. -
My PS gave me an Rx for Latisse, but insurance wouldn't pay for it. So, it was $120 out of pocket.
-
$120 for that tiny bottle of latisse is highway robbery! i have an appointment with my opthalmologist on monday and i'm asking him for a prescription for the actual drug and i'm still using the hypotrichosis excuse. i hope he'll agree with me. i'll let you know.
-
It is highway robbery!! I'm going to try the hypotrichosis excuse when this runs out. This is someting that should be covered for us.
-
looking good ossa!
so I just remembered a comment that bothered me a few weeks ago. I saw someone who is the wife of business associate of my husbands, and I had not seen her in a long time, since a week after diagnosis. At that time we chatted and I told her what was ahead for me. Now I ran into her and she totally did not recognize me. SO I went over and said and hello and she kept saying you look so different. I mean yeah, I lost all my hair so now its still much shorter and my natural color, I have fake boobs, and I gained 25 pounds . . . thanks for reminding me. I don't think she meant anything bad by it but wow.
-
I know Carrol. People can be so insensitive. I recently saw a lady I used to work with and she never asked me how I was feeling or anything. What she said was (in a very pitying voice), "Ohhhh, did you lose your hair?" I said, "Yep, I'm completely bald." I don't wear a wig, only hats. One lady I work with now said I should have dropped my pants and said, "Yep, I lost it all!" LOL
-
Carrol going from blond to brunette is a HUGE change. I doubt she meant your weight. You are just sensitive about it. I've seen your blond pictures… you do look different. I still think I like the brunette a little better.
-
LOL! Yes, the free-and-painless Brazilian "wax" was a bonus, but nobody explained about the nose hair!! No nose hair, snot falls out of nose!!! It was disgusting! I was always terrified because I never knew when it was going to happen and if anyone would be around...
My eyebrows/eyelashes came back VERY quickly. I was surprised. I lost them just prior to my last round, so I wasn't expecting them to come back as quickly as they did. My hair is coming back nicely, but not as quickly as I'd like! For a few years prior to diagnosis, I wore my hair very, very short, so - I find - that I'm already comfortable going without a wig even though it's only about 1/2-1 inch long. It seemed to be coming in black at first; but, now, it's settled into my natural dark blond. I can't wait to dye it back to screamin' red (which I've been for several years), but - I'm told - I should wait 6 months to a year before doing so... although no one said exactly why I should wait.
-
Deb yeah sometimes I think I am a bit hypersensitive about my appearance and sometimes I forget for fleeting moments that anything is different. But a person like this reminds me that I will never be the same. It's up to me though to make that mean in a better way.
