Meals during rads?

Options

I have an absolutely amazing group of friends and support.  Since my surgery and now, during chemo, I've been getting meals brought to my family 3x a week.

My friend who has organized this has said that there are people who wanted to get signed up but didn't, and she is asking if I want to continue to receive meals during radiation.  I have no sense of how things will be for me then... I will be started almost immediately after chemo ends.

We have four kids and I work a full-time job, plus a part-time still, so the meals have been greatly appreciated, but I don't want to be taking advantage.

Those of you who have done it... what should I expect as far as fatigue, etc?  Would meals have been appreciated during rads, or unnecessary?

Thank you!

Ruthie: I'd say, go for it! If your friends are kind enough to offer, I'd take their help. It's not just the rads themselves that are fatiguing, it's the daily travel to treatments. I realize everyone's experience is different, but not only was I tired during rads, I was also slightly nauseated. I really didn't feel like cooking! Another heads up: I finished rads at the beginning of December, and my "burns" and fatigue were at their worst up to two weeks later. That I was not expecting.

That's terrific that you have such great friends. I found the fatigue was worse in the last 2-3 weeks of Tx, and the couple weeks after Tx ended. If your friends want to try new recipes, there are some nice anti-cancer cookbooks out there. I like THE CANCER FIGHTING KITCHEN by Rebecca Katz. Some of the recipes are little complicated for me (I'm a lazy chef) but I also learned recipes that I still use today. (like the "anytime bars" and the smoothie recipes). She has a whole chapter on food that can be made ahead so you can eat anytime. Good luck!

4 kids, 2 jobs + radiation?  Accept the help from your wonderful friends! Smile  Fatigue is an issue, as is time.  You are not taking advantage.
