Thank you cupcakies!  I didn't get it because I didn't know if it was the "right" stuff.  Next trip I will pick it up for sure. I'm going to Costco more frequently since they started carrying so many organic fruits and veggies. I think they will help make organics more mainstream, and therefore more affordable.  At least I hope that's what's happening.

SAB, also just fyi, i get that brand b/c its Japanese green tea (vs. Chinese green tea).

The Anticancer book also mentions that Japanese matcha tea is richer in EGCG than Chinese tea. Also to steep the tea for 10 minutes, but drink it within an hour for the most benefits (page 133) Hope that helps! :)

Thanks cupcakies.  You remind me to reread...I always find something new when I do.  What a great loss Servan-Schrieber's death was.  I appreciate how clear and evidence-based this book was, and it is sad there will be no updates with newest material.  Does anyone know of another excellent author/book that highlights recent info on diet and lifestyle choices?

Multigrain pasta with a dab of "butter" and steamed broccoli tossed in for dinner last night.   Very dry, tasteless bran muffins for breakfast today. Leftover curried chicken with brown rice coming up for dinner.  DD the elder home from art school with a kidney infection today.  So much drama.

Oh, Corrine, I saw an old friend yesterday who has been using Myfitnesspal for months now.  He's down about 40 pounds so far!  (It was Corrine who mentioned MFP I think.)

    Happy leap day everyone!

Happy Leap Day to you too, SAB!  I know, such a sad loss!  I cherish that book for all of its advice.  I haven't found a book as informative yet.  I did by an alkaline diet book, but it is much too strict for the long term.

Going out for thai this evening.  I am in need of an ultra-healthy meal!

Hi everyone! Made mussels, boiled in organic Chardonnay with water, served over Jerusalem artichoke pasta mixed with fresh spinach.

    So good.....and I'm in a carb coma.....

Oh Gina, that's sounds completely luscious!!  One question for you--do you ever eat tofu?  As a triple negative, I sometimes wonder if we should be.  I had miso soup at the thai/japanese restaurant the other day and loved it, but then wondered if the tofu was a good idea.  I avoid overdoing the alcohol even though it has been indicated in estrogen positive BC, but should I be avoiding soy?  Was wondering since you've been to a nutritionist...

Today my lunch was a large green salad with a little goat feta and slivered almonds. On the side a small ww pita bread and a pile of marinated sardine filets with garlic. It was so good.

Hi Susan~ for TN the nutritionist didn't mention anything about soy.  I'm having trouble with textures of "fake" meat products.  I have never likes marsh mellows and a lot of the "meats" have that spongy quality.  Maybe if the tofu was cut really small?  I haven't bought the Anti Cancer book, but it's on my to do list for tomorrow.  I need a little more guidance....reminders....you know what I mean.

For lunch today I had a veggie pizza from Scholtzsky's (spelling?). Certainly not good for me, more calories than I care to find out about...but it tasted to so good......oh cheese....how I've missed you so, but's that it for us!

Thanks Gina.  I have started to like tofu after many years of staying away from it.  Probably because I get tired of eating fish all the time.  It is a nice change.  Still, I am leary of the soy.  I will ask at my next appointment.

I thought that soy was a concern for ER+ women (like me), not TN. But don't take it from me.

I LOVE tofu and eliminated it after my dx. Recently I started eating it no more than once/week. Here is the way we prepare it - buy firm or extra firm.  About an hour before dinner, take it out of the package, drain, and place it on a plate. Put another plate on top and something heavy on the plate (like a few cookbooks). That will weight it down and press the water out of it. Pour the water off every few minutes. When ready to cook, cut into 1-2" pieces (DH has a way of making them triangles, but I can't explain it).  Put into a HOT wok so they sear on all sides. Use whatever seasonings you like (he puts some special Szechuan stuff on them - I don't know exactly but curry would be great too).   If you drain them, and sear them well (brown/black on all sides) they will be crunchy/chewy, not marshmallow-y. And delicious!

I was told that for ER+, you should avoid PROCESSED soy, as in soy burgers, soy milk, stuff like that. But that tofu and edamame are fine.  I still limit tofu though, just to be sure.

I had cheese and guess what? I know this sounds absolutely nuts, but I woke up with junk in my throat like allergies, and as I find out just how much diet plays in to all of this....well I think it was the cheese.....I haven't had this symptom since before chemo.

Susan my reflux went away after chemo too. I think it was being aggravated (perhaps not caused) by my diet.  I stopped processed foods especially, white sugar...etc.  I know with a little one at home, that has to tuff to do though.

Gina--funny you should say that because my diet has taken a giant downward spiral---I keep saying that tomorrow is another day, but this time I mean it.  I started having the reflux after drinking like 5 cups of Starbucks coffee and ever since I can't get back on track.  Tonight, though, we are having veggie burgers and sweet potatoes.  Actually, it iisn't hard to do with a little one nomally, it is because of my complete lack of time being in graduate school.  I am on spring break after Thrusday so I can get back on track completely then.  Yeah, I thought my reflux was completely in my past.  I am so mad at myself!!Yell

amylstrong: thanks for chiming in.  You are right about the estrogen positive.  I guess I still worry about getting a different breast cancer.  I know, way too much worrying.  I should just try to think healthy.  That is the best way to go right now...Thanks for the tofu advice as well.  Actually, that is kind of how I have been preparing it.  Cooking it on high heat to ge tthe outside crusty, but haven't tried getting rid of the water.

Susan, I'm a little under the weather so I go to my pantry to find something to eat....and to my surprise I have Miso soup! The package says all natural, I read the label and nothing looked fake...it was just dehydrated - added a cup of hot water and it hit the spot!

    Hey gals,

Inspiring as always to check in here. Beautiful morning on the farm, and while the horses in the paddock outside look frosty I snuggled up in front of the fire place and had myself a slice of pumpernickel bread with soy cheese, marinated green olives, a couple of organic tiny tomatoes, a big Japanese carrot salad with walnuts, garlic and horseradish. Followed by a great but mug of organic coffee, oatmilk and agave sirup. Life is good.

A gorgeous weekend and my DD's swim meet.  Our club was hosting and I was on award duty, stationed right next to the hospitality foods!  Oy.  I managed to stay away from the brownies, and lemon bars and cookies for 2 days, and then fell victim to pizza on the way home today.  sigh.

Today I am still a little under the weather, so I didn't make my breakfast.  Had a corn tortilla, with beans and avocado and a big glass of green hot tea.

Back on the wagon today with a brisk 5 mile walk, tomato soup and chips (quinoa and blue corn) for lunch, a gorgeous salad with romaine, sweet potatoes, organic chicken breast, onions and steamed broccoli for dinner. Snacked on luscious strawberries and a small square of dark chocolate.

Sagina, the mountains are our Santa Cruz mountains...the venue was University of CA at Santa Cruz.  A very pretty campus.

last night was talapia with fresh dill (that was soooo good), with cooked chard, mushrooms, onions, and I stuffed little sweet peppers with Tzatziki - I haven't done any kind of milk product in a long time...and I won't again.  but it was soooo good when I was eating it!

Hi All, Spring in Buffalo has hit!  60 degrees today and I am forcing myself outside for a bike ride and walk.  I am caught up on my work for now, so I am going to enjoy the day.  Having gall bladder trouble, so eating extra healthy.  Pretty much just salads, lots of beets, apple cider, and fruit for now.  It is so hard to resist those brownies in the cupboard, but I will be good and save them for my son Laughing

btw has anyone seen those new beets on the market that are already cooked and marinated in different flavors?  I bought the ginger honey ones yesterday and they are fantastic, but I am a huge beet fan , so I am biased ...

Susan, I love beet-carrot-apple homemade juice. It needs 1 little raw beet, 1 apple and 2 big carrots. It also helps a lot with low HB, if somebody is anemic, really good medicine.I also like to make beet soups, cold and hot, if you  are interested, I will give you recipies..Smile

BEET SOUP??? Yes please a recipe! The farmers market and my CSA bag overflow with golden and red beets right now.

When I juice I use the most common one from Whole Foods - beet, carrot, parsley, celery.  Since I was starting to get sick this week, I added, broccoli/mustard seed sprouts (mix), and spinach. Can't wait for the sunflower sprouts to end up in my CSA bag soon!

I really need to get my juicer... I would LOVE a hot beet soup recipe!  I have a recipe for Borscht but of course that contains beef, so I don't make it anymore.  Thank you, olgah!

I have a Breville - I've even used the pulp before in a frittada - it was a mix (chickpea flour) from whole foods - and vegan!  I added the pulp into it, it baked so colorfully.  It was my first time eating a frittada much less making one.  I have a pic on FB somewhere will try to find.

OK, ladies, it is still cold outside. Let's call it Olga's beet soup ( hot)>

    we need:

    1. 2 small raw beets or can of shredded

    2.Organic mushrooms (Raw)

    3.2 big carrots, peeled

    4. Onion

    5. Can of Northern Beans, if you like.

    6. Olive oil, , about 2 spoons

7.salt, pepper, green parsley if you like.

I really don't know how much water to put in the pot to boil. I usually have it half  full. While water is going to boil, cut mushrooms into pieces and clean.Cut Onion into small pieces. Grate carrot or cut it in small pieces. When water is boiling, put there mushroom and boil it about 15 minutes.Put olive oil in thepan and fry oniont till gold color. Put it aside. If you want to deal with raw beet, instead of a can, you need to boil it , it takes about an hour, I check it with a knife- if it goes in smoothly, like in a butter- ready. Then I grate it .

After 15 minutes I put in boling mushrooms beets, carrots and fried onions. Olive oil is there, so we don't need

broth. If you want, you can add there beans too. I used to put there pieces of sausage, but not anymore- we cannot eat saturated fat!

Then you reduce the heat and cook about 5 more munutes. Put salt, black pepper, a little piece of parsley and any spices you want.

I am originally from Lithuania. We have traditional cold beet soup , but you cannot make it without buttermilk. I can write recipy if somebody wants it.

Susan, you can perfectly make Borsch without beef, just put fried onions , like I wrote above instead. People cooked this way while they were fasting and could not eat meat. The taste is the same!Smile
