and I'm back
Originally diagnosed 2004, stage 2A, ER-/PR-, HER2+. Lumpectomy, chemo, rads and Herceptin. Following a routine mammo (came back BIRADS 4C) I had stereotactic biopsy last week. Just heard from my breast surgeon that it is DCIS, and so I am set for a mastectomy. She said she'll have a good look round when in there, but hopefully there will be no invasive components and I won't have to do chemo again. Was feeling calm I thought, but realised today as I waited for the call (and we all know the waiting is the worst) that I was feeling antsy. breastcancer.org and all those here who share concern, news, info and hope were really a lifesaver last time around, and I know will be again this time. I'm going to post on the DCIS thread too. So hello again ladies....

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Waiting for the surgery, and taking advantage of all the good advice here about what to expect and what to buy (cancer - another good excuse for retail therapy!) Peace and strength to all who are walking this path. Jo

Surgery booked for March 22nd. Fingers crossed no invasive bits. I am hoping my surgeon's plan to take additional nodes along with sentinel if necessary is just professional caution and not based on what she saw on my biopsy path report. I have my loose sweatpants and shirts at the ready, and diaper pins for drains (can't remember how I hooked up the drain last time, funny how your memory works!). I work part time from home and on a temp type basis this time around, so am hoping I can be back at work within 3 or 4 days. Again this site is so helpful - comments from other MX (learning the new lingo!) ladies suggest recovery, especially if you don't do reconstruction, isn't much harder than from lumpectomy, except emotional loss of boob of course. As others have noted, whole thing seems harder the second time around. Maybe because we all know so much more, maybe because we thought we were done after the first lot. Thanks again for your support. My best to you all.
