    The quilt is beautiful Chrissy!  I made mine when I had no directions, and just sort of muddled through by trial and error...They came out great, for a beginner, but  I don't think I have the patience to try another one.

    Chevy I had never used the photo print technique when I made that quilt so it was all trial and error for me too.  I made it for her first birthday and the photos were all of her firsts as she was born 15weeks premi so everything she did were milestones.  It was the first quilt I hand quilted so I'm pretty proud of it.

    I took a few pics of the quilt I made.... I had it packed, but brought it back down to lay across the  loveseat....

    Showing one of my favorite pics.... My Dad & Brother, without their teeth, acting silly!Wink

     And my Grandsons cleaning fish with "Papa" when they were little....they are now 23 and 26.

    I love picture quilts. My sister did one for her inlaws for their 50th anniversary. She used their wedding picture in the center of it. The picture blocks were the center of the stars.

    Thanks Barbe and Chrissy!  I loved putting it together, and laughing at all the pictures...Wink

    It's folded on top of our love-seat....gonna keep it out!  Glad I found this thread.  I even copied pictures of all of our pets....

    You know, I made another one....Different type.

    My Dad always made the little embroidery pillows...and pictures.  I trimmed the ones I had, and put them all together in another "coverlet"....Along with lace and bead pearls.  I used a flatter batting, and trimmed with lace and ribbon.  I'll get it out & post another picture. 

    I used it for "company" when they would stay overnight.

    These pics are the coverlet I made with the embroidery pictures/pillows my Dad made.

    He made a few little "Daughter" pillows for me also, but I didn't want to take them apart to add to this.

    That is gorgeous!!!  Your dad sure did a good job with the embroidery and you have done a good job of preserving them in a way that is sympathetic to them.  Lovely, truly lovely!

    Beautiful.  Your father did great work.  My great uncle used to embroider and I have some pillow cases he did.  It gives me an idea on how to preserve them.

    WOW!! Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! What a tribute!! You would never have seen the individual ones except framed or pillowed one at a time, so the quilt makes a glorious showcase!! Well done!

    Thank you sooooooo MUCH!  That is really sweet of all of you..... I kind of just forgot about them, until I found this thread.  I'll have to bring the pillows down from the upstairs room and get them together.

    I've just done so many crafts through the years.... Sewing, mostly, because we didn't have enough money to buy nice curtains, spreads, clothes for the girls, and me....etc.....  Now we do, but I kind of lost interest in anything, other than the crochet work I do.

    My Mom started a patchwork quilt when she was 19....I finished it years ago...and have worn it out.., by using it so much.... But my Dad did that embroidery, cross-stitch, and painting by number on the velvets....remember that?

    Well, when Dad passed away, I couldn't just leave all of his "pictures" there.... He had given me a lot over the years, but when my Brother and I had to clean out their whole house, I packed all of his beautiful things like that...Bought a huge duffle bag, and loaded it up with their pillows that they slept on...some blankets, but left the rest...The neighbors were asked to help clean out the house, so we did it that way.....giving away everything.  I don't think I could go through that heart-ache again.

    But looking at the quilts now, it just makes me happy!   I DID keep all the memories...

    You gals that hand-stitch the blocks together, are amazing.   I did the "outside" work by hand, but used my trusty machine to get it all together. 

    I even made patch-work vests for our girls when they were little...and I used to sew most all of their clothes, and mine.... I made latch-hook rugs,and a patchwork table-cloth.  I figured I could make curtains and  drapes  a lot cheaper than buying them.

    For the white coverlet, I just bought 2 flat queen size sheets...some thin batting, a pretty piece of pale lace that covered the top, and put the little pictures on that.  I think I LIVED at Walmart.... because that's where I bought all of the trim, blanket bindings, even the transfer paper that I used on the first quilt.

    The Walmarts here don't carry material anymore!    Or many of the craft items I used to buy!  But I'm mostly just into crochet now, anyway.  Just makes me happy that you like the pictures!

    Chevy, the coverlet is beautiful. You were creative to keep things your father made together and use to remember who he was. I took some hankies I purchased at my great aunt's auction and made a small wall hanging for my grandmother when she turned 95 almost the same way you used your dad's pictures. I did cut the hankies in pieces and hand stitched them down on a man's handkerchief as my base, then I hand quilted it and embellished with antique buttons I got at the same sale. I have more hankies I want to make into a coverlet as well but being a good quilter, I have many projects that I want to do but there is never enough time to do them all.

    The Walmarts here still have a very small fabric/craft section, but the Super Walmarts do not.  Luckily we have a Beverlys, Jo~Ann, and Hancock's as well as a few Michaels.  I think the internet has effected our retail stores but When it somes to fabric, a picture on the computer doesn't cut it.  I have bought swatches online for my home decor projects, it was worth the money to know the fabric I ordered was the right color and weight.  Unfortunately you don't get the ability to leave the store and go right home and start sewing when you use the internet.

    I also think Chevy's Dad did Crewel embroidery one heck of a lot better than I ever did!  I had this sunset picture that I finally liberated to the Salvation Army after it sat semi completed in my closet of over 20 years. Chevy's Dad got his done and well done at that!

    Ginger she is sweet.

    I started on my challenge wallhanging this week. I started the freezer paper - stick glue part to make the appliqued states and got most of the 25 done, as well as decided on the smaller states I will needle turn them down. I took the paper pattern to the wig bank yesterday and taped it down on the countertop in the kitchen, taped the white muslin down on top of it and used my pigma pen to outline all 50 states. Now comes the fun part, actually stitching the pieces down on the map. I also decided on Maryland/Delaware I was creative in using part of the patterned fabric and lined up two colors almost on the border so I don't have to try and make a separate Delaware piece.
