Stop Smoking Support Thread

Raffomimi,
I have been on the thread that you mentioned and it did make me sad because I (as I 'm certain we all have) have experienced the disappointment of those who I thought for sure would be there that couldn't or wouldnt' BUT I have also experienced the joy when support came from somewhere that I really didn't expect! I do think this has been a learning experience for me... In that it is better to risk saying the wrong thing and offer comfort than to say or do nothing at all...
Glad that you came here and fought off that craving!! Each day will get better!
And I like the saying... 'Just for today...'. Perfect!
lisamarie,
GREAT job on day 4!!!!! As far as the couch... I did cold turkey and my first 3 days were, shall we say, a bit rough... Did my share of couch time...lol..... Somewhere around day 5 I was OK enough where DH and I went out and he wasn't terrified that I would kill him or someone else... I think up until that time he slept with one eye open...lol!
It gets easier as you go.... Good Night and sleep well! -
Good night and sweet dreams, Jo!

I have to share a story about people who drop away. I thought I had the best guy friend. Well...I've heard nothing since January 2011 - thorough diagnosis, bmx, recon, etc. Not even a Christmas card. On my one year anniversary this month I sent a one sentance email "I'm not contagious you know". At least he answered - he's been sooooo busy & give him a call whenever I want. Fooey on that.
Thanks to all of you ladies for your support & care. Thanks for letting me vent !! Good job to all the newbies. You can do it.
-
MinusTwo,
Even though it was so hurtful to me, and I could just be all shades of naive, I don't think people meant to be hurtful... I think often times it's a fear of saying or doing the wrong thing that frightens people...
I also think that, while we are not contagious per se, we do find ourselves dealing with an illness that is the stuff nightmares are made of... It is human nature for those on the fringe to try to rationalise how this could not possibly happen to them (oh the stories I can tell about those comments) And if it means closing their eyes and hearts to you in order to protect themselves, in their minds it is worth it....
It is sad but, we all understand here! -
Seaside: You're right of course. I'm just not feeling very charitable towards this guy. I'm fortunate to have a number of really suportive friends - more girls than guys - but that's what counts.
-
MinusTwo,
That was me trying to be philosophical but.... No need to feel any charitable thoughts toward this person at all.... truth is,.. the reason for bad behavior isn't important... what is important is to realise that their actions say everything about their character and NOTHING about you.... His loss! -
Jo , you are amazing and the little pictures just touch my heart and make me smile . thank you .. and congrats on 7 1/2 months .. woo hoo
Seaside, I love that name as I love the ocean, it keeps me in check .. wow cold turkey i'd kill someone for sure lol..
Minus Two, thanks for sharing your story , I am in that situation now .. I guess you can say a friend with benefits and I hate it .. I love him and he well don't love me . and u can imagine the hurt . anyway I just felt like I can relate to you .
Raf, its a new day and here we are . Hope you have a good day Smoke Free ...Hugs and Strength to you

Good for you Lisamarie, exercise is also a good way to curb cravings, I have a recumbent bike I jumped on when the cravings hit hard, get those endorphins moving around, plus can't smoke when you're exercising! In fact it's time to get back on the bike, get this winter weight down, You are doing all the right things - HURRAY for you. Karen

Yay....lisamarie!!
You are doing phenomenal!! Soon you will be at 1 week, then a month and before you know it, smoking will be a distant memory!! Have you thought about what you will do with all that cash that you'll be saving? I took a portion of the money I saved and did something nice just for me... Nothing extravagent but, just a little reward here and there.....
Only 3 more hours and you can kick back and relax... That is a very long day!
PS... If you'd like some extra weight, I'd be happy to send you some...lol! -
lisamarie: Way to go girl! Seaside and I will see if there is some way to send you some weight. I have about 50 pounds you can have!
Hey Jo, send me a PM with how to post pictures. Thanks!!
karen: One more day down on our wait for football season to start!
-
Wow, I go away for a few days and 5 pages!!
Welcome to the new quitters and waving Hi to the oldies. Bama, how you feeling these days?
I have about 10 extra pounds I can contribute.
-
Lol... Bama!!
I was going to add that I would be glad to send the weight because I'm not really using it... It's just laying around bumming me out and making my jeans not fit! -
Hi Barbara... We must have been posting at the same time!!
-
If we are sending weight to Lisamarie, I have 20 to spare, by the time I get jeans big enough to hold my stomach, I have one baggy backside .Bama, my grandson had his first football meeting of the year yesterday. He will be in Junoir Varsity this year, grandma( otherwise known as Nini) will be at each game, even the rainy ones, he is on the offensive line, last year he played offense and defense. We hope they move him up to Varsity, he's a big, strong boy and has been playing since 4th grade.
-
Hi Girlies,
Sorry for not posting earlier, I was chatting to my best friend(Her dad passed away today).
I didn't smoke today, not doing too bad. Thanks everyone for the encouragement, it has been a great help. I hope you all had a lovely day today.
Blessings and hugs
Maria

Raffomimi,
Sorry to hear about your friend's dad... It is really hard to lose a parent! She is lucky to have you to talk to... Dealing with such a difficult and sad situation is stressful. Good for you for staying strong!
Hey... Just noticed that you are an ILC girl, too... We seem to be a bit in the minority so I guess we're special that way...
Blessings and hugs to you, too! -
LadyinBama - I sent you a PM.
Way to go Lisamarie & Raffomimi - it does get easier.
-
Raffomimi, you are a good friend, it is so important to stand by our friends in hard times, and YAY you made it another day!!!!!!!!!

You all are donig so well. Wunderbar!
Also still haven't smoked so we're all great.

Galsal, you are all doing a super job staying strong
-
Everyone is doing so great! We should all be very proud of ourselves. Okay! Time for a group hug!
-
Hugs back at ya, Jo!
-
Jo: I must be doing something wrong or maybe my system is different from yours. I don't get the "copy url" option. And when I try to cut and paste, all it pastes is the url, not the picture. Argh! But thanks for the PM.
Karen: Fun! Glad you've got a football player in the family.
Well, we will really be fattening up lisamarie, won't we

Roffmimmi and Galsal: Great! Keep it up!
Barbara: I'm doing great. 7 months out from last chemo, I've got hair. I had a checkup a couple of weeks ago and blood work was all good. I go for scans next month. I'm starting to get my energy back and feel sort of normal again!
-
Ladies: Congrats on one more day. You're all doing great. I too have an extra 10-15 lbs I'd be glad to donate. Hang in for Friday.
-
Poor Lisamarie, with all the poundage we have donated to her she will be rolling around rather than walking!!!!!!!!!!
-
Good Morning Ladies,
