Recommendations for high risk docs/ oncology centers?

Hi, having had my 3rd bx in 5 years this week, I'm a now on the hunt for a new breast center, oncologist, etc. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a high risk care/survellience clinic or doc? On the East Coast (I'm in VA.) I feel like the care I've been receiving is adequate but that I know more about LCIS/ALH than they know! I know this DX is a tricky one, but i know there are bigger hospitals and clinics/oncologists who specialize in high risk women. I hope! Thanks. jen

    I would try to stick to large teaching hospitals.

    *If a doctor is not listed on Castle Connolly it doesn't mean they aren't good. Not every good actor gets an oscar.

    Isn't Johns Hopkins in Baltimore?  That would certainly be a good choice.

    Thanks! Johns Hopkins seems like an great choice. Anyone out there going there or have gone there? i'd love some specific names of docs if possible. How about VCU in Richmond or UVA, both teaching hospitals? Or in Raleigh area? Anyone receiving or has rec'd treatment? I' just not sure where to begin.... Can get overwhelming at times!

    I received all of my treatments at the NC Cancer Hospital at UNC-Chapel Hill.  I had all of my records transferred there as soon as my regional hospital started talking about a biopsy, and it was the best decision I could have made.  I received excellent care, had great experiences with, and highly recommend all of my providers.

    I love my doctor in Northern Virginia at Inova FairFax Breast Center. She is the medical director there and at two other facilities and tells me that they are building a comprehensive cancer care center. I can always get into see her in a reasonable amount of time. She has a very helpful staff that is available for questions and she works with the oncologist as a part of a larger team. PM me and I'll send her name and info.

     I also have ALH and do high risk surveillance.

    Maybe others had a positive experience at Johns Hopkins but I was incredibly disappointed in the BS and PS.  I saw Dr.Tsangaris and Dr. Rossen.  Dr Tsangaris spent a total of 10 minutes with me.  He did not even look at my cd which contained my mammograms, ultrasounds and MRI.  I felt like my LCIS diagnosis was a joke to him.  He gave me NO information and was very arrogant.  The PS was even more of a joke. He took my pre-op photos with his cellphone.  I felt as though I was a waste of their time because I didn't really have BC.

    You might want to try Dr. Robert Warren at Georgetown.  I was monitored by him for years through mammograms and was diagnosed at Georgetown because he decided to do an MRI due to my high risk family history.  I ultimately chose Dr. Tsangaris at Hopkins for my surgery (I love him, but I was already diagnosed when I saw him) but I think Georgetown is another great choice.

    I'm being treated at UVA Medical Center (and Cancer Center).  I am very happy with both my surgeon (Dr. David Brenin) and my oncologist (Dr. Christiana Brenin).  It is a three hour round trip for me from southeastern VA, but I feel its worth it.
