I just had a biopsy and the results were rare atypical ductal hyperplasia, moderate usual ductal hyperplasia, rare microscopic fibroadenomatoid nodule, sclerosis adenosis, & microcalsifications. Does anyone else have these and what treatment options have worked.

I had ADH in 1997 and it was recommended that I have a lumpectomy and have it removed.  At that point in time they did not recommend tamoxifen but it is my understanding that some Dr's now recommend taking it as ADH puts you at a higher risk of breast cancer.  14 years later I ended up with IDC even though I had had it removed.  They don't check for clear margins with ADH like they do for cancer so did they get it all?  Who really knows they might have and it might have come back. I was 34 at the time of ADH diagnosis and I had yearly mammo's with sometimes having to go back for diagnostic over the years.  PM me anytime if you have questions.

I have a heavy family hx of cancer. I'm wondering I'd I should just go ahead and opt for a mastectomy. I'm only 39 and I have 2 kids. This is so scary.

I would talk to the BS about it.  They should be able to give you more guidance if a PBMX might be a wise thing or not.

I was diagnosed wirth ADH last Nov @ 29 mine also had sclerosis adenosis. I had a lumpectomy on 12/23 and the margins showed fibrocystic changes so I only hope they got everything. I was told to get on tamoxifen too but my surgeon recommended against it. Last friday I had a breast MRI and now there are new spots of concern.

I have no family history, 3 kids before 30, breast feed and this stuff shows up!!

Msigler also if you have a heavy family history maybe you should see a genetics counselor.  They are very good at predicting your odds of cancer and I would think it would help you to make a better decision about a PBMX or not.  A MX is a very personal decision and only you know what is right for you.  If after talking to a counselor you decided it is for you and you have a BS that is against it find another BS. My original BS was very against me having a MX so I have since dumped her and found surgeons that listen to me and my concerns and are supportive of me.  Makes for a much better atmosphere is my health care.

I my last lumpectomy on my so called good boob I had alot of the stuff you gals are talking about in that boob as well.  After three lumpectomies and rads I have decided to go on with a BMX and reconstruction.  I emotionally just don't have it in me any more.

Regarding the genetics counselor, will my insurance drop me if I do have a genetic predisposition?

I don't think they can drop you but if you tried to get private insurance that may be a problem.  Group insurance has to take you.

I was dx'd w/ ADH a couple of years ago.  I had surgery to remove them.  they haven't come back. however, recently they found PASHA cells on that breast.  I have decided to wait until the summer to decide to remove them or not.

Hi, I have ADH in my left breast and DCIS on my right.  I'm having a double mastectomy on March 5th.  I have no family history of breast cancer or cancer of any kind but I did have a melanoma on my back and several basil cells removed from my face and body and I also have had nodules on my thyroid for 30 years that have always tested B9. Not that any of that probably matters, or maybe it does, but mentally it plants the seed of CANCER in my head so for me (and its a personal choice) I needed to remove my breast tissue for peace of mind.
