It will depend on your doctor.  I had a very large hematoma develope after my excisional biopsy.  My BS (who was a different doctor then who did the excisional biopsy) wanted to wait a few weeks for the hematoma to settle down (his words) prior to doing the surgery.  My cancer is non-invasive, so surgery or other treatment didn't have to be immediate.  However the hematoma started a non-stop slow seep of very dark brown blood from the incision site, so the original surgeon decided to drain it.

So I guess it really depends on your surgeon.  I was much happier once they drained it. It was very uncomfortable and while, not really painful...not without pain either.  Once it was drained, life was much better. If you are extremely uncomfortable or if you are continually weeping old blood, then call your doctor and see if they can drain it.

Thank you so much for the replies.

I had a very large hemotoma after my Core BX. The Dr. hit a blood vessel. The nurse showed me the white lines in my Xray and said those were the blood vessels. Anyway, he took the hemotoma out during my lumpectomy. It was not in the way. It really hurt though. Very sore. Feels much better now that it is gone. I think you will be ok. He can take it out. Smile Good luck with your surgery. I am new here and just love all the support I receive everytime I write something. It is very good therapy.
