HER2+

Does anyone know if Herceptin which is used for HER2+ kills the gene that causes the aggressive cancer?  Otherwise, what happens after you go off Herceptin after a year, if that gene is still there...can the BC come back??  Confused about that??  Any comments regarding this?  Also is there anyone that has had good results with just holistic medicine for HER2+.  I am sitting on the fence about what road to take regarding treatment.  Thank you.

Hi, barbiecorn ~ I'm not Her2+, but since you haven't had any responses to your question, I thought I'd stop and share a link with you that explains what Herceptin does:

    http://www.chelationtherapyonline.com/PreventCancer/p112.htm

(I just happened to find this particular page and thought it was a very easy to understand explanation of Her2+ and Herceptin, even though the website is not one I've ever come across before.)

Anyway, I don't believe Herceptin has anything to do with a cancer gene.  At least I've never heard it described as doing anything except what's described in that link, which I believe came originally from Herceptin's manufacturer.

As far as holistic treatment... If you mean totally alternative, I think you'd be taking a huge risk -- and that's coming from a very alternative-minded woman.  There are many complementary things you can do to protect yourself from chemo & Herceptin's possible SEs.  But from everything I've ever heard, Her2+ is extremely aggressive, and Herceptin is truly a life saving drug for treating it.

Have you talked to more than one oncologist?  Maybe even an integrative oncologist, who understands and uses complementary and holistic medicine in addition to conventional medicine? Here's a link that might interest you:  http://www.integrativeonc.org/       (((Hugs)))   Deanna
