There is a search feature. The link is at the top right under the logout link. It works great.

The search feature does work great but some of us can't see it.  It's invisible to me.  I just happened to find it one day while mousing up to the blue "Donate" box, which I can see.

The search button is just above the pink "Go" box that follows the Jump to a Forum drop-down menu, which I can see.  The logout button, which is also invisible to me, is above the search button.

I agree it would be helpful to make the search feature more prominent.  Thanks Mods!

Thanks for your suggestions all! We're working on some updates and will consider your requests. One note: if you have your screen resolution "zoomed in" to more than 125%, this might be affecting the way you see the search feature.

    Hope this helps, and thanks!

Thanks, Mods, I'm at 100% but tried going to 75% and still couldn't see the buttons.

Maybe it's a simple issue of font color or background color?

On a maroon background, it says, "Welcome, b" and the rest of my avatar name is invisible.

The next line, also maroon background, says, "Member List" then the rest of it is invisible.

However, I know from mousing over it, there are six buttons I can't see.

my profile / my preferences / logout / help / rules / search

Hmmmm not sure what's up Badger -- we'll include this in the list to our tech team and see if they have any suggestions. Thanks!

i think we determined that if i set my browser to less than 100% I could see the search function. I think it is the most awesome thing about the site.. Perhaps just moving the 'search' flag closer to the center could help.

I've got my resolution set to 125% and I can see the Search button at the top.  Maybe it just needs to be more dominately displayed.

One thing I've found very frustrating with the search feature on this site-I've been unable to search for very specific combinations of words, for example, "swollen breast" without getting all the posts with "swollen" in them and all the posts with "breast" in them, even if the words are not together. I've tried putting the phrase in quotation marks, and using the "+" between words, with no success.

    Any suggestions?

To help the tech team troubleshoot this question, could those of you who don't see the Search link please let us know more about how you're using the site? Specifically, your platform (PC or Mac, or any other) and type of device (laptop, smart phone, iPad or other tablet). Also, which browser you use, and its version? Add your info here, or send us a PM and we'll compile it for the techs.

YramAL, I run into this too, and although the solution isn't ideal, when I really, REALLY want to find a specific combination of words, there is a way that usually works. Since BCO is crawled by Google, I go to the main Google search page and type in (using your example, and with quotes and format as below)

    "swollen breast" site:breastcancer.org

It tells Google's search to find only the combination of words within the quotes, and only on our specific site. If the site has been crawled since the post, it'll be there.

We'll add this to the tech team's list too, thanks!

    This is super interesting.

I know little about forum software really, but that is an excellent tip for searching a 'cheap' forum i know of.  Thanks  This really is an excellent, excellent site.  To think one can come here for laundry tips, dinner ideas, jokes and fashion hints is a big plus.  Smile

Thanks to badger's help, it looks as though we've got this figured out. At least for some members the answer is screen resolution. Set your screen resolution to no less than 1024 wide (on a Mac, it's selected under Display in System Preferences) to see the entire width of the standard BCO display.
