New calcs 3 1/2 years after DCIS

I just got the dreaded phone call of needing more tests after my mammo last week.  it showed new calcs in the same breast as my lumpectomy.   I just can't help but think the worst.   I know most of the time calcs are benign, but do those odds change when you have already had cancer??  I had lots of microcalcifications the first time around, I think the radiologist knew immediately, he couldn't look me in the eye when he recommended I have a biopsy.   I have to wait 2 weeks to get the second mammo and see my surgeon.  OMG its going to be the longest 2 weeks EVER!!!!

You would think the stats would change once you have previously been diagnosed with cancer. Sending you hugs, we're all holding your hand while you wait. Waiting really sux.

I had to have a biopsy a couple of years after being dx with DCIS.  I was sickened and horrified to say the very least.  Two suspicious areas.  Both of them ended up being benign and afterwards I read the mammo report.  One of the areas of concern was a birad 3 for heavens sakes!!!  And most birad 4's are benign.  But once you've had BC -- even very early BC --, the fear is always there, just beneath the surface.  It's been almost 5 years for me and my stomach still gets tied up in knots when I get calls from doctors offices -- not the breast cancer doctors either.  I only hope you can push this to the back of your mind just a bit and not make yourself completely miserable.  Remember, it's just a call back; you can freak out when they suggest a biopsy Smile.

thanks ladies!!  rn4babies, hope our doctors appt went better than my diagnostic mammo today.  calcs still look suspicious and he recommended biopsy.  luckily, i do not have to wait long, I am doing it on Friday, so just waiting 2 more days, then the long weekend for the results.  I HATE WAITING!!!  The anxiety is brutal, but I am prepared for the worst, but certainly hoping for the best!

rn4babies, we will wait together!  (((((((HUGS)))))))  right back at you!!  one thing that stinks, is I have a family spring break trip planned, which is also over my birthday in just over 3 weeks.  Part of me wants to put off any potential surgery after the trip, but I also don't want t wait.  guess I shouldn't get too ahead of myself, but can't help but think about it.

lea.......I'm soooo sorry for your news. Is it DCIS again? I just had my biopsy today for 2 sites. One was calcs and the other was a "shadow" near the armpit. I'm more nervous this time than the last. I'll have my results Tuesday. (((((((((HUGS)))))))))) to you! This site has been the most support for me. We may be going through this together.  Prayers for you as well........

Yes, DCIS again, but I am still waiting to see path report.  I am praying you get a good report, waiting is absolutley the worst.  Once I knew, there was a weird sense of relief to finally know, even though it wasn't what  wanted to hear.  please let me know when you get your resuls, you can private message me if you want.

lea: So sorry for another diagnosis of DCIS.. Just a thought....I had DCIS also. Had lumpectomy, then decided on bilat mx....Pathology report came back with 2 more spots of DCIS in cancerous breast.... it's possible that your new diagnosis of DCIS was there all along.  No tests showed my other 2 spots, so everyone was surprised with the report.  Sure, they can get clean margins on the part they know is there, but there  can always be more in other locations, as in my case.

I hope everything goes well for you and it's all soon behind you again. Hugs coming your way!

    Kathy

rn4babies- I sent you a private message.  Hi Mikita5, I am sure you were very surprised to find about 2 other spots after your surgery.  I am meeting with my BS today to go over the path report, MRI results and make a plan.  the biopsy site was right over my scar, looks like my new spot is in the same location.  Which I wonder, didn't the radiation take care of that area?  this reality is still sinking in, but I am so thankful for this site. I do not post very often, but I READ A LOT!

    Hi mikita5!

I am doing ok. had a BMX (I posted some under March surgeries) on 3/29.  so i am 4 weeks out today.  Still having a lot of pain, but Tramadol is REALLY helping with that.  back at work here and there.  luckily, my husband owns the company where I work, so I have flexibility of going into office and working from home some.  which is great.  I had TE's put in and had my first fill yesterday.  kinda tight, and very sore from that.  definately having ups and downs, but i am happy the worst (hopefully) is behind me. (NO node involvement Praise the Lord!) I am taking my first trip to NYC in one week.  it has been good to work toward a 'healing' goal. but I am a little nervous trying to manage everything with the soreness, but I am excited about it!!  thanks for checking on me, how are you doing???

Hey lea! Just now seeing your post from April...You are completely healed and back to "normal" by now... How was your trip to NYC? We've been there twice. Hubby and I went together several yrs ago, then we wanted to go back so we went a couple yrs ago and took another couple.  No where like it! Did you happen to see the 'underwear' guy?  I hadn't even heard of him when I was there! lol
