    Good morning all!

We're having a rainy day here so don't think I'll be walking outside-----guess I'll be walking away the pounds in the living room in front of the tv.   My thing about exercise dvds is that I just dont like hearing the same banter from the people on the program after I have heard it a few times.  Just a pet peeve I guess.   Tried a good recipe the other night for black bean burgers from a recipe blog called Annies Eats.  They were really good.   Trying to keep making good choices, husband brought more doughnuts home---ate an apple while he snacked on one last night!  He isnt making this easy for me!    What I am really craving is a piece of chocolate--------the closest thing I have in the house is a chocolate flavored calcium chew.

seaside----did your daughters college years go by as quickly as high school?   Not ready for daughter to be so grown up, she is really looking forward to college---------we are trying to get her to apply for as many scholarships as she can, but she is tiring of writing essays.  Cant blame her but now everytime I remind her of deadlines---I'm nagging her.    Its my job, its what I do!!   :)

tenaj-------have a good day today and hope your husband can get that cast off today.  HOpe your appt will go well too.  Pretzels aren't too bad of a snack food choice---what is it about tv that we just want something crunchy while we watch?  I've been like that my whole life.  My daughter says to buy the ones without any high fructose corn syrup in them--she is the label reader of the family.  The only thing I notice is that all the healthy type foods she wants me to buy are almost always in the 3 dollar and up price range.  The least processed foods with less added ingredients always costs more????   I cant take her with me too often to the grocery

JFV-----good job choosing the bath to calm down after the co-worker problem.  Our everyday lives provide an endless supply of stress, dont they?   Take care of your foot---hope it feels better soon.

Plantlover------dont sweat it over the exercise, especially with your heel pain.  You'll get back to it when you can.  It would be worse to aggravate the heel problem.   Hope you'll feel better soon too.   Love seeing your pictures---keep posting them.  When is it safe to plant flowers in your location?   I am looking forward to flowers!    Feb is a short month but at the same time it seems to go slow to me because I am so ready for spring.  We really arent safe for the annuals here until after Mothers day.  That seems like a long ways away.    Its just too cold and too wet now to get out there and get our hands in the dirt.

    PlantLover,

Thanks for the info!! Will check at Lowes next time I'm there!!

Pretty picture... Looks like you have a fairly large space.  We're confined to just a regular suburban lot so not sure how much more space my husband is willing to give up for a vegetable garden especially because last year none of it did too well.  The year before was fantastic, though!

I have to say that when I asked my questions I was just thinking vegetable gardening.  Never even occurred to me as a quick and dirty way to get new landscaping beds in!!!  I have quite a few areas where I would like put some shrubs/flowers!

    Thanks!

    Jaytee,

Sad to say, I think the college years went by even FASTER than high school. Cry

But, the sometimes surly teenager (and all the drama that goes along with it) that I packed off to school returned home as a lovely young adult who's company I enjoy immensely!  I think after her being away, we both look at each other in a different light!

Has your daughter chosen a school? Or are you doing the campus visits?

PS.. I'm such a chocaholic, I probably would have given the calcium chew a whirl....Embarassed

    Kathy,

Walking carrying bags of groceries most definitely counts as adding weight to your exercise!! Especially with how heavy they bag them at my market...lol

    Tenaj,

I hope your appointments went well today and that your husband got to ditch the cast!   PS... I spoke too soon... It snowed here today.  Not alot but still... We're spoiled this year!

First time on this thread, but am definitely looking for inspiration to keep me motivated.

I gained 10 lbs. since I had my dmx back in Sept.  Oncologist said biggest most important thing is to keep your weight down and exercise.  I've been walking 9 to 12 miles a week and have made some progress in losing some of the weight, but geez is it hard.  Crazy, the med they give you to keep the cancer from coming back seems to be making me gain weight. Ugh!!  Trying to eat right, eat organic and keep exercising.

    Welcome blueyez!

My Onc also said that my biggest risk factor right now for recurrance, other than being a woman, is lack of exercise and the estrogen producing weight that I have gained around my middle... Frown

I am shooting to lose 20 lbs and I agree, never had this big of a problem with my weight prior to the Tamoxifen.  It is soooo frustrating but, I am trying!  I am also walking roughly 12 miles per week and doing some weights as well.  After 6 weeks, I am starting to see some significant changes in my body but, the stupid scale has been slow to respond!  Down just 2 pounds....

Seaside, I'm finding the same thing with me.  I've just started losing weight after almost 2 months of exercising. At least the scale is finally cooperating!  I still dread weighing myself.  Seems I have to work so hard to see the scale move down, but it only takes one good night (or two) or bad eating and the scale goes up in a hurry.  One more sucky side effect from cancer :(

    Welcome blueyez!

Got the ok to resume all activities as tolerated today. Looks like I have no more excuses... Lol

Had the MD appts today, busy... Got aggravated about insurance issues again & another problem, my PS didn't notify insurance co of my exchange on 1/17 & now denied payment. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow on my break at work? Trying to call & find out why someone isn't doing their job!!! I am so frustrated right now. Just had a cup of tea & 2 whole wheat fig newtons... Really want a bag of m&m's. Good thing there aren't any in the house. Sorry if I'm ranting..... Hope everyone had a great day! Tomorrow will be better for me :-) hopefully....

I can't even cheat a little .  Well, let's just keep helping each other by talking on this thread. We rode bikes for an hour today, hoping the scale might cooperate tomorrow. Good morning everyone!  Welcome to the thread Blueyez!

Okay, I'm up early (5:30) and it feels so good getting a jump on the day. I'm the only one awake and it's so peaceful.  I've got to take my doggie to the vet by 7:00 am but then I'm coming home and riding the stationary bike.

I've been so focused on family issues and trying to find a job that I've let the exercise take a back seat this week. I've got to do better!

For those of you who are exercising like crazy and not seeing the scale move, cut yourself some slack.  I bet you're losing body fat and gaining muscle and we all know that's going to offset any progress you might see regarding the number on the scale going down.

Seaside ... We have 1/2 an acre and almost all of it is in my backyard.  Also, there's some open space behind the creek that belongs to a neighbor but nobody uses it or cares for it because the property it's attached to is a rental property.  We keep the grass (well, weeds actually) cut and it really makes it seem like we've got a much bigger yard.  In addition, I'm NOT a grass person.  If I had my way there would hardly be any grass in the yard.  Everything would just be one gigantic planting bed. LOL!  Thank goodness my hubby isn't one of those who wants to have a "golf course" type lawn.

Jaytee ... The typical guideline for my area is to wait until after Tax Day (April 15th) to plant perennials & annuals.  Most shrubs, roses, trees, can be safely planted in almost all areas as long as the ground is not frozen.  We've had a VERY warm winter so the planting season was greatly increased.  Unfortunately, the warm winter is a bit of a double edged sword.  We had a cold snap this week, temps down in the 20s and I had to try to cover a lot of shrubs and tender perennials that had started to bud or bloom much earlier than they should have.

Kinder ... Bike riding huh?  Sounds like you are already enjoying the California climate!

Tenaj ... So sorry you're having to deal with the insurances issues. What a pain!  Good luck!

Tori ... Good luck fighting the cold.  We've been passing one around our house all week.  I'm much better just have a terrible cough that just won't go away.

Alright, I'm going to read my other thread favs and then hit the road.  Talk to you all later!

Hi Ladies,  I am stuck on the sofa with a stomach virus.  Two days so far.  Not getting sick.  Just really tired and achey.  Can't eat much which I guess is good.  I had forgotten what it's like to be normal sick.  I haven't had a virus since a few months before cancer started.

I live near the Long Island Sound.  It is a lovely area.  But, very crowded.

Hoping to feel well enough to walk tonight or tomorrow.

Keep up the good work everyone !  We should be proud of ourselves for trying

    JFV,

There is a really nasty bug stomach thing going around... Lots of ladies here on these boards have had it!! Usually with a stomach virus it's pretty much done in 24 hours but, this one seems to hang on for a few days....

    Hope you feel better soon!

Good morning!  Sun came out today so I am off soon to take my walk and get a little natural vitamin D.

That was encouraging Seaside------about your daughter.  Have had to deal with a lot of drama here too in the teenage years.  Started on the first day of jr high.  Sometimes I think I would like to relive some of my life---but definitely wouldnt want to go back to high school!   My daughter wants to go to a big school---not sure I like that idea but so far she likes U of Cincinnati and Ohio State the best.  We wanted her to look at a few small schools too, all the advisors said to apply even if you think you cant afford it cause they sometimes offer pretty good financial aid packages.  We toured U of Dayton in the summer, and I really liked that campus---of course if Mom likes it--------well I  have to watch myself and not talk it up too much.

Hi Blueyez-------glad to have you here----somebody said upthread the more the merrier and thats right----more encouragement, more motivation, more ideas, more support and that will hopefully equal less of us----in pounds and inches!!!!!

Hi Tori--------hope you will feel better soon----keep at it, it may be harder to lose weight with these medications we have to take but it is making us keep at the exercise more faithfully and we are developing a good habit there.  I think if my weight came off quickly, and I hit my goal, I might stop making the effort to get out there and walk everyday.

Tenaj-----------glad you got a good report from the doc and can get back to your activities!   Wish you werent experiencing the insurance problems. :(    Nothing puts a dent in the day like trying to resolve those kind of issues.     In my mind, there is a magical place where all problems can be solved by m&ms and reeses cups----------and Chips!    Oh, I can dream!!!!!!     :)

Plantlover------have a good day today-----you have had more than your share of stresses lately it seems. A good friend of mine once told me his motto for all the stuff that happens in life is ---'This too shall pass"     It usually does but sometimes takes so darn long.   Wishing you good luck on your job search.

I am imagining you as one of those people who ' paint ' with plants!   In the summer there are certain homes I just love to drive by in our town just to see their flowers.  So many different and beautiful combinations of colors and textures.   Wont it be nice to have a day to just spend outside in the flower bed?

Kindergarten-------you did good yesterday riding bikes----were you sore today-----even if, that is the good kind of sore!     Keep at your eating plan today----you can do it!   We will get rid of this tamoxifen tummy!!!!  Well in my case its femara, actually the generic letrozole-------hmmm, femara flab, letrozole....cant think of a word for that one.   All I know is that its given me a little roll around the middle that makes me think of the michelin man when I look at it!    lol

Go forward today everybody----no matter what life throws at us!!!!

Oh, JFV, I sure hope you get better soon, hopefully that stomach virus is only 24 hours!!! TORI, I hope you as well get rid of that cold soon. SPRING IS COMING!!!!Dear PlantLover and Jaytee, It is fun bike riding and hopefully it burns many calories. JAYTEE, I am not too sore, but I went off the aromasin in November and it has helped my joints and muscles recover. I was on it for 7 years and my onc said that it was enough!!!! You are too funny, I am sure you do not look like the Michelin Man. I, too, have a roll in my middle. O.K. I do feel guilty about living in CA, but we moved here to be near our two sons. What a blessing that they both live here. We lived in Pittsburgh and Chicago for years. It is a joy to see sun all the time, but I sure wish you all could enjoy it with me. You are all such a great bunch of women, wish we were neighbors!!!! One more thing, we did go to the Northern Trust Open, today,  and we walked the golf course and saw Phil Mickelson, now I am really feeling guilty and the weather was awesome. O.K. that is it, you are all going to delete me.  Lots of Love!!!!!!!

Kindergarten, at least someone is enjoying the sunshine. I love your thought about be neighbors :-) I'm so glad you are by your sons. My life of empty nesting has just begun :-(..... My son graduated college 3 years ago & was doing consulting work in Philly & has now just taken a permanent job there because he met a nice young lady. I'm happy for him but miss him so. My daughter graduated college last May & is now going for her PhD with her boyfriend in Boston. She is my best friend & calls at least 5x a day & we Skype. But I do hope that in the future we will live close because I couldn't imagine it any other way.

JVC- I hope your feeling better, make sure you stay hydrated. I had that virus around Christmas for 5 days!!!

Jaytee, glad you got your natural vitamin D today!!

Tori I hope your cold is better... Lots of vit C & fluids... & rest

Plantlover, I hope all went well at the vet & you got to ride the bike. Good luck with the job hunt. I go on an interview for a new job with benefits on tues.( I work part time but not medical benefits- gotta get rid of COBRA)

I worked today & did not feel like exercising .... I will tomorrow :-)

Hey ladies !  Thanks to the stomach bug I am down a few pounds.  Doubt it will stay off but at least I know it can come off.  Got a pedometer and took it out for a slow walk with my old dog today.  Kind of fun to know how many steps I have taken.  It will take alot of dedication to get to the magic 10,000 steps a day.  But the feed back from the pedometer seems to be good for me.

Tenaj beautiful weather here on LI.  If it keeps up I may try to walk the boardwalk at Jones Beach later this week.

JFV, great idea about the pedometer.  I'm always curious how many steps I make during the day, even though it seems I walk in circles.

Awesome job on all the exercising!  I have completely slacked off for the last few days.  Great to check in here and get some motivation from you ladies!  I think I'll put on my ipod and head out for a nice walk.  Beautiful weather up here in the Northeast for February!

Anyways, have a great day!  Jaytee, your so right, We are worth it!!!

Hi, everyone!!! I hope you all are having a great Sunday. Just came back from a nice walk. I have a question. I just got my bloodwork results back and my vitamin D level was at 20! Low, so my doc wants me on a prescription for Vitamin D . Wow, it was higher back in the midwest with not much sun, and lower now with alot of sun!! Do any of you have this issue??? Thank you in advance for any advice you have. Kathy

Kindergarten, my vit D level was low last year before BC & I was given a RX to take once a week. I stopped when I had my BMX. My levels have been checked since & and are ok. I recently started some supplements to help with SE 's of meds, menopause etc..... Calcium with magnesium & it does have D3 in it, fish oil, vit e, biotin. It is very common to be low on vit D, despite your sunshine. I had no SE from the prescription, just had to remember to take it.

My D levels were very low prior to and during treatment.  The Onc I was using them felt getting vit D into normal range is very important.  Current Onc not so interested in Vit D level.  I do ask the GP to test it from time to time. I really need to do that again.  During chemo I took 50000 units once a week.
