edited June 2014 in Just Diagnosed With a Recurrence or Metastasis

Just diagnosed recently with bc and just found out today that it is in my liver! They found a tumor on a Ct scan! Ok really really scared! Get my port tomorrow morning and meet with oncologist with plan tomorrow afternoon! Does anyone have any advice on sedation or no sedation with port placement?

    Hi Hun, sorry for your news are you still having surgery first? I don't have a port I'm sure more ladies will tell you. I have been told by a few on here that it isn't too bad and so much easier than finding veins.

    You onco will tell you more tomorrow and I'm sure they will blast you with everything.

    Hun it's a shock and we are all here for you.

    If she's stage IV I don't think she'll be having surgery.  I think she goes straight to chemo. I was dx'd stage II before I went to IV, so I could be wrong.

    Kristen, I was dx'd with cancer in my liver too - there are lots of us on the Stage IV section so come on over and say hi.  

    As for getting your port, they usually do mild sedation.  You will be relaxed and won't remember much afterwards. Having my port put in didn't hurt a bit.  It does hurt afterwards so make sure you ask for pain medicine.

    Hun, just read it was cancelled I remember it was planned near my birthday so that's how I remembered.

    Kristen,

    I'm so sorry you are dealing with this Frown.

    As far as port placement, I was sedated, but not under.  The person that administered the sedative said it would break my give a care, which is pretty much what it did.  I dozed off and on through the procedure.  It did not hurt.  However, it was painful and very bruised for a few days after.  I had my first chemo the day my port was inserted, so I don't know if that made a difference on pain and such.  Tylenol or advil seemed to keep the pain tolerable.

    Hi and sorry to hear about the stage IV. It does get easier to cope with although I know that's difficult to imagine now. As Coolbreeze says, there are lots of us with liver mets doing OK on the stage IV boards so come on over and say hi.

    Hope the port went OK.

    kfontaine: so sorry to hear this! BUT, I have friend who is in her 11th year, stage 4. Maybe a an antidepressant would help you cope better.....a milder one like Celexa....and don't forget that new treatments are on the horizon for metastized breast cancer as they understand how these cells operate. XOXOXOX
