Motivation

Because there are some newbies here, I am going to repost this link and stuff below. This to me is a great summary of why we should be motivated to exercise! Click the link, and go to page 18!!
OK ladies, talk about your motivation. Do any of you get the Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine? Go to page 18!!! (turn the page thing in the bottom right corner) There is an article in there called, "The Medicine of movement: Exercise lowers your risk" that shows 8 reasons why exercise decreases your risk of recurrence. Reduces estrogen, reduced insulin, reduces sugar, decreases stress, decreases depression, shortens menstral cycle (less estrogen in your life time). AND it quotes a 2005 study that found a woman who exercises through treatment is 30-50% less likely to get a recurrence! -
I did 90 minutes hatha yoga and 35 minutes of mediation that included some really amazing breathing exercises too. I came home refreshed.
-
Thanks for the link, Springtime!!!

Just a quick followup to that article I shared a few days ago about green tea possibly containing dangerous levels of flouride sulfate and aluminum... The piece bothered me -- partly b'cuz I felt it might have been put out there with an ulterior motive, but I just didn't know -- so I asked Jon Barron of The Baseline of Health Foundation about it, and he was kind enough to post a reply to my question on FB. Just look up his FB page if you're interested. It's tagged onto an article he'd posted yesterday about the benefits of green tea. The bottom line is, green tea is still very good for us. Sorry for the false alarm! Deanna
PS ~ Forgot to say that I walked 1/2 an hour (2 miles) this morning, and going to the gym with DH tonight. Between busy-ness and rain, I let yesterday slip by without doing anything.
-
Welcome new ones. Just a quick stop by to check in. Did abs and leg work last night and hope to do some more tonight. Painted one of the walls in my bedroom today. I feel I just keep going and need to go to work to relax. Start night shift on Friday. Going to see my DS and family on Sunday. The grand kids have basketball games I hope to attend. Weather is going to turn yucky and hoping the ferries run. Keep moving!! Raining right now and suppose to turn cold again.
-
Hi Everyone,
Blessings, Mamglam. How are the new kids on the block?
Kfinnigan, I'm not in California. I'm in Ontario, Canada. Maybe you didn't mean me? I like California a lot though.
Survivorwoman, thanks so much for the pictures et al. Springtime, I'm "retired" and I can't make it to the top of the exercise pyramid!!
Can't remember what I did yesterday, but did something exercise wise. Today did a jogging/interval session for 45 minutes and a pilates class. Tomorrow another pilates class and I think I will go to the gym to use the elliptical for variation. I can hardly wait until it warms up a bit here so I can add some outdoor walking to my exercise plans. Hope everyone is well.
-
Deanna, I am so glad green tea is still good for us. I drink a pot every monrning (40 ounces!) and now I can do so again with a clear mind!
Well, in my pot are 2 green, 1 white, and 1 black. I read that if you mix it up you get different protective antioxidents. It seems to make sense?
45 on the elliptical tonight! Tomorrow is a day of rest I think. I will have survived 3 weeks on the new project that some days is making me crazy. I have to employ yoga breathing!! -
Deanna. I want to thank you too for the update about green tea. I spend $ today and bought some really great smelling Japanese and other organic green teas at TenRen in Chinatown.Thank goodness we can continue drinking it.
Spring: I also drink black and green tea in the morning. First, I gulp the black one to get my head straight and then my second cup is green. I sort of continue with it at work and I drink tulsi in the afternoon. In the evening, I drink grated ginger and turmeric tea mixed with hibiscus and burdock.
I did kundalini yoga at home this morning. I could not make it to the gym or a yoga class, as I had to do some blood work at the hospital today. Afterwards, I walked through Chinatown and had a 30 minute foot reflexology for $20. I felt like flying afterwards. It felt really good.
-
Cath, oops, I do see you are in Ontario, I meant to ask Blessings, she shows California. I was watching an episode of House Hunters last weekend as it was filmed in Ontario, looked really neat! Retired huh? Envious here...LOL! You go girl with all your exercising!! Woohoo!!
Joy, love hearing your busy schedule, what color did you paint your room? Enjoy your family and hope the ferries continue to run.
Phewwwww! on the Green Tea! But wow you girls drink a lot! Do you drink decaf or regular? I have to be careful of the caffeine, not good for the ole bones, I'm trying to build bone and calcium leeches it out. Same for biking and eliptical, doesn't do my bones any good...sigh...but I still will do those activities. Sometimes I make a cup of regular tea at work and only drink half. Also feels like my hands swell after drinking it. Have a box of Peet's teas at my desk. The office stocks Bigelow, but those don't taste that great to me.
Took yesterday off and ate way too much and not good!!!!
Got up really early this a.m. and did my MLD and then some yoga stretching routine, which helped my mental and physical state, great start to my day. then whipped up my antioxidant enriched smoothie, boy how I love that each day.
Every important goal, whether big or small, has been achieved one step at a time. Be grateful for the steps you have already taken ... and the steps which are yet to come ... on your path to success. ~ R. Bassett

Love that quote, Kari!
Today was in the low 60s so we were able to take a bike ride!!!
it was so nice out! Tomorrow it's going to be rainy and freezing again! Lived it up while we could... But SOON this will all be over and we'll be able to ride all the time. I can't wait!
I have been buying flowers and plants lately. I have a cyclamen, begonia, tulips, 2 doz roses. Something about me is wanting spring! This is the inside of the house. Outside I have bulbs coming up and pansies.
Okay so yesterday and today I have half a cup cake each day. Some how it was not as satisfying as I thought it would be. Isn't that interesting?
Keep Moving!
Treated myself and ordered a Giaiam extra thick yoga mat today. With matching blocks. Why not!!
-
Spring- I love cyclamen at this time of the year. They are so pretty. I also love hyacinths and crocuses too. Yeah, I can't wait for spring to start. I was thinking about bike riding too, but it was not that warm here and after work I did a big walk instead. I also did 120 jumping jacks at work spreading it out throughout the day.
-
Wow 120 jumping jacks at work. I should try that Survivor!!!
-
Yup- I did 15-20 every hour or so. Actually it helped me think better too. I guess it improved my blood circulation.
I also included a 2 minute kundalini yoga twist in between. Here is a video that show what I did. I leaned this move from a DVD.

Checking in to say hi everyone. Welcome newbies to the best best thread!! I may not be here every day but I think of you all every day! Always a great motivator. Bad week last week work wise so it wasn't a good week, but, finished it off by my favorite exercise--yes, yoga by firelight. Haha, saw the 10 minute rule come up. I was just reading some internet news and Jillian from biggest loser was on and mentioned doing that. She makes it 15 min, but, cracked me up she had come up with the 10 min rule too.
For the newbies, it is something I discovered long ago when my son was a baby and finding the time was hard. 10 min is enough to keep you in the habit and keep the muscles from forgetting. So, days it was hard I'd make myself do 10 min. Often once you're into it you can keep going, but, if not, at least you won't backtrack. The funny thing is now that he's grown working and active I just shared it with him the other day when we was complaining about finding time to work out.
I think a little lifting and a little treadmill today. Or, maybe make it an upper body day and do a little lifting and rowing
Keep moving everyone. A little bit does make a difference and a bad week won't make a difference when it is surrounded by hundreds of good ones
-
survivor, I am going to try your jumping jack thing.
Today will be an elliptical day at home, it is cold and rainy, and *maybe* we'll get snow overnight! It would be our first of the winter season. I miss snow, so I'd be happy to see a little!
Kate, Yoga by firelight.
-
Did Bike intervals yesterday, squats, lunges, and pushups. Today is treadmill intervals and core work. Tomorrow is Cardio day off and Pilates class. Let's have a good week everyone!
-
Well, I only did 50 jumping jacks at work today. I wanted to do more, but there were too many people around. After work I had dinner with friends, so had no time to do yoga or other excersize. Now, it is too late. I will have to make up for it tomorrow.
-
Had to pop in and post this. It is long, but, on page 4 talks about cues and rewards that can create good habits such as exercise, and bad habits such as continuing to eat an unhealthy cookie for your afternoon snacks. Very interesting. I need to keep track of what my macaronni and cheese cue is!

Whew, first time I tried to link it I ended up with gibberish, really don't know how I did that
-
Sorry, having odd problems with posting right now. This is a long article, but, page 4 has a very interesting section on the cues and rewards that create habits, good and bad. Such as exercising or impulse eating. I thought it was very interesting. I plan on watching for what my macaronni and cheese cue is

Crap! I forgot about the jumping jacks at work! Pooh.
45 on the elliptical though....
It snowed here, but then it melted. It was nice and prety for a bit!
-
I did not get to do my jumping jacks either, but I did a long walk on the way home from work (35 minutes), plus a bit of yoga using a DVD. I am so tired today.... I don't know why. Could it be that the antibiotics I am taking for my ear/tooth infection cause my fatigue? Just wondering..... Maybe I just need to rest tonight.
-
Loved all the posts! I drove separate from my DH Saturday to the Bay Area (a little over 2 hours) and helped him pack up one room and move closer to his work into a room he had been in a couple years ago. TIRING!!!! BUT, was able to spend Sunday afternoon with my best girlfriend, we walked, talked, shopped and went to this Integrative Pharmacy, gosh I loved that place and we both spoke to a Nutritionist/Acupuncturist/Herbalist and they have Naturopaths you can talk to. So we talked and talked and I was given the name of a Naturopath in Sacramento. I haven't called yet though. Then when driving home yesterday I stopped at my dad's house and visited for 3 hours. Great weekend! I babysit tonight/tomorrow night so will get some more arm work in.
Saw my LE therapist and she cannot believe how well I've done (just a teeny swelling left in hand) without compression!!!!!!!!! Still waiting on my custom garments, and we did more review/refining of my technique, learned a few things/tips!! Very happy!
Did 45 min of yoga last night, I have some really tight hips going on...Kate, always think of your yoga by firelight! love that image...
Spring, I can't tell you how your flower pics on FB put a big smile on my face! I love them!!!
Brisk walked at lunch today. Survivor, I did do a few jumping jacks last Friday, but I'm not in the right shoes at work.
-
Thanks Kari, flowers = spring I cannot wait! I've just been buying them for in the house now! It won't be long though, next month I think!
So I forgot the jumping jacks AGAIN today! I get so heads down at work, it's terrible! I have got to try and remember this!! Maybe I should do 10 every time I go to the bathroom? LOL. That would at least be a start...
45 on the elliptical for 370 calories! Tomorrow is Yoga, Not by firelight like Kate, but it will be a good class. I treated myself and ordered a new yoga mat, it has not arrived yet. Wouldn't it be totally cool if it arrived tomorrow before class....
-
Spring: sadly, I was only able to do my jumping jacks at work and nothing more. And a few yoga twists. I came home thinking and wanting to do more, but I was so worn out that I decided to stay in and get ready for my next Herceptin tomorrow. Btw: you inspired me to get some flowers too. I got some hyacinths and some tulips too. I love them. Thank you for starting a trend.
Kari: I can't do the jumping jacks in high heels either. Lol, ten years ago I would have done them like that too.
-
How is everybody else doing? Any moving around?
-
Felt sorry for myself today and did not exercise. I will tomorrow for sure. Thx for the push Survivor!
