I dropped my kiddies off at school and went to her house. She is "up"! Pretty pink blouse, new short hair cut for things to come and grocery shopping list in hand.
"It's been seven days, I can drive." she says. So, we took a standard pillow and put in on her chest and she did her seatbelt and off she went! I went along with her of course. I lifted stuff, she wanted to push the buggy to lean against it and she pointed stuff out and I got it and put it in the buggy, I also loaded it onto the register belt and into the buggy and in and out of the car.
She let me read her pathology report. Stage 2A breast cancer, ER PR Positive, no Hercp. Sentinal lymph and axillary nymph positive, 7/11. We discussed chemo and this board and how helpful all of you have been, she has a book. We also discussed hormonal therapy.
She is an accountant. She owns a coffee company so she showed me how to do her invoices and I did some paperwork for her.
She promised me after I left, she would take a nap. She was walking through Kroger like she owned the place, saying "hello" to people and being her friendly self.
Of course, I realize all of this is 7 days post-surgery and 2 days pre-chemo. Her first appt. with the onc. is Friday morning. But she was feeling good today and determined to take her life back.
Of course, I think she also wants to show me, that she is okay, or, as okay as she's going to be for a while. She said I looked tired and that I should get some rest!:-)
I grinned because she sounded like her old self and said, "Yes, Mam!" (insert salute here)
Anyway, whether it was to take some of her life back, or because she wanted to show me she's going to be okay, or just because she really was feeling stronger, it was a nice morning and I am really proud of her. She was brave, smiling, courageous and capable today.
And I told her so before I left.
Hope everyone else had a good day too. I realize these days are valuable. The stuff to hold onto on "chemo day", which will be approaching.
Thanks again for all of the input.

That's awesome. Chemo will really put her and this attitude to the test, but it's good she's got a head start on the getting her life back attitude. Now it's your job to reenforce that attitude on the good and bad days that no doubt lie ahead. Keeping up that attitude will help make the battle through this a bit easier to stomach. -
Thanks everyone, thanks for the encouragement. And thanks for helping/encourageing me to know what to do to help. She is a fantastic woman and I adore her. I really want her to win this battle and I appreciate all of you encouraging me, as well.
