Sorry to say, but no it will not grow during AC This is the treatment that makes you loose your hair Make sure to get lots of hats and if you choose get a good quality wig.. My wig looks very real even though it is synthetic (paid $500.00)..  I have just started to go without my wig and getting lots of compliments.. Still wearing a hat.. I am 17 weeks PFC today and have very short hair, it is growing slow.. most likely b/c I am on Herceptin... It looks like it is not growing, but filling in quite well.. Did not realize how quick it is filling in until I say my picture from my rad simulation on Jan 26.. wow I was so proud of my hair then, now I see how little I had. You can see my scalp with a little bit of hair, now scalp is mostly covered.. Hang in there.. Hugs

Carrol, even though I am now 42 weeks pfc, your photos continue to give me great encouragement. Your 11 months photo is beautiful and noone would ever know you had chemo.



I really like that style and colour on you. I too am thinking of going darker.

cdairth- I experienced some hair loss after menopause and began to use minoxidil.........it helped immensely.  I do have male pattern baldness (brother who is bald and son, age 45, who has lost lots of hair in the front) which became apparent after menopause.  The minoxidil worked and although my hair was not as thick as it had been when I was younger, it was more than adequate.  I had been on the tamoxifen about 3 to 4 months and began to notice quite a bit of hair loss.........fast forward to 6 months and the shower and bathroom floor were full of hair.  No matter when I combed it, the comb was full of hair, and I was still using the minoxidil.  It was so depressing and I often wondered if it would just continue until I had no hair at all.  I wanted to stop the tamoxifen but was too afraid to not take it.  By the time I had been on it for 10 to 12 months I noticed all these new hairs sticking up and my hair dresser confirmed that lots of new ones were growing in.  My new ones are anywhere from 1 and 1/2 inches to 4 inches and  I can no longer see my scalp through my hair (finally).  I still use the minoxidil and it does work for me. 

Hi, is it a given that brows and lashes will fall out after taxol or does it not happen to every one? If its going to happen, is there a general time frame pfc when it does? I know this should be the least of my worries now, but I miss looking like myself so much.

i lost my lashes about a month after TCH.  i was disappointed because i didn't think i would lose them at all.  i'm trying latisse now.

Thanks Carrol! As soon as I get to where you were at 13/15 weeks, I am ditching the hats. I am at 9 weeks and still a bit too bald in front and on top.

shore1, I was about 8 weeks PFC when the eyebrows thinned tremendously and most of my eyelashes disappeared.  Everybody is different.  I started a thread back on January 20th called  Eyelash and Eyebrow Regrowth to see what was happening with others.

The good news is that my eyebrows came back pretty fast and look better shaped then before BC.  The bottom lashes are back to normal and the upper lashes are moving along.  Since the uppers are typically longer, I would expect them to be back to normal by the end of the month.  At least I hope so :-).

I have two more treatments of herceptin! I can't wait til it's over! I am more at CARROL2's week 20.  i am taking BioSil! I also got rid of my wannabe mullet last week!

I am about 16 weeks PFC and have been going topless for about 2 weeks.  My hair is very short and mostly gray.  It is very interesting, some of the longer strands are tricolor ( I feel like my beagle). The tips are white, the middle is brown and the roots are black. The hair on the top of my head took longer to come in and it is not as full as it is on the sides and the back.  Is that common? 

I am not sure if my hair is going to get curly ( I had straight hair before chemo).  It is very soft and feels and kind of looks like cotton.  I am just glad to have hair!  I don't think I will dye it anymore. 

I lost my eyebrows and lashes about 5 weeks PFC and my brows came in right away, but my lashes are still struggling.  They are very short and I have gaps.  I just started using Latisse.  For those of you who have used it, does it really work? My lashes were not super long or full, but they were good enough!   I am hoping Latisse will come to my rescue!

Hee, hee. anafoefana. Love the beagle comment. I thought I looked more like a silver back gorrilla. 

 Shore1, I tried a nutrisse temporary hair colour that turned by hair pink. So, don't try that one! I just went to the hairdressers (19 weeks pfc) and had my stylist do it. She put on an aveda temporary dark brown which ended up being a warm medium brown. She knew what she was doing because that's what I wanted. When I get more hair, I will go back to my dark blonde, or as they call it now, bronde. 

anafoefana, Yes, it is common for the hair on your sides and back to grow back sooner than the hair on top of your head.  My pre chemo hair was straight, too, but at 8 months PFC, it is definitely curly. Like you said, I am just happy to have hair.
