Any grade 1 girls show response to chemo?

I'm having a mini meltdown tonight, worrying that the AC+T chemo I'm enduring right now isn't having any effect on my grade 1 cancer. I had surgery first so I'll never know. I'm looking for stories of people who had grade 1 tumors and neoadjuvant chemo and saw a response. Someone on this board did tell me her grade 1 turmor shrank quite a bit. So I know of at least one person. I'm looking for more stories to give me hope. Thanks.

My Grade 1 tumor shrank from 5 cm to 2 cm.  Don't assume the chemo isn't helping you.  My oncologist and surgeon were both very pleased with my results even though I didn't have a total response I had a pretty good one.  It gave the option of having a lumpectomy even though I still choose mastectomy.  I had one lymph node positive before chemo so we were really going for tumor shrinkage.

Posy: I have similar 'what-if' scenarios run through my head. I didn't have neoadjuvant either, but like Barb says, they definitely do a multi-faceted treatment for stage 3: chemo and rads and hormone therapy (and more?), figuring one of those or all of those will do the trick.  Remember AC+T is potent stuff...I don't think they would put women with grade 1 tumors through the treatment if they didn't think (or know!) it worked.

Best wishes for you through chemo. I still can't even look at red kool-aid without feeling nauseous, thanks to the adriamycin!

I'm in the middle of neoadjuvant chemo (TACx6) and my tumor is low grade 2 (Nottingham=6). I also had a Mammaprint test done which came out low risk and supposedly (according to a couple of studies) I shouldn't have much response to chemo. But I have had a very good response so far after 3 treatments - my MO estimates my 3.5 cm tumor has shrunk by more than half. Hope this makes you feel better - good luck with the rest of your treatment!

One way or another, it's going to be fine.  I was grade 3, done my research and found that grade 3 is more responsive to chemo.  Well, there was some minor shrinkage but not much.  So the results of my chemo were "no response".  But I had surgery and rads.  Almost two years out from surgery and I'm still NED.  I'm very grateful that we have a 4 pronged tx with chemo, surgery, rads and hormonals.
