Good Afternoon,

I had surgery on 12-22-10. Lumpectomy.  I am not going to have radiation.

How soon do I need to have a mammogram?  Does a doctor have to schedule it?  Which doctor? Gynecologist, Surgeon, Oncologist(which I have seen, but not using). The Oncologist said my gyn didn't want to see me anymore since I had the "big C"... What is that all about?

Thanks,
Deidre'

Deidre'  - I had the same question.  Had lumpectomy on 9/30/10 and finished rads on 12/22/10.  I am discharged from the RO.   My surgeon said he will be the one to order my mammogram.  He has me scheduled for June which will be six months after I completed radiation.   I believe this can vary for each individual.  I feel comfortable with my surgeon following up on my mammograms.

Deidre' - I had a mammo on surgery side 6 months after surgery but it was only 4 months after I completed rads.I currently have another 6 month mammo and ultrasound scheduled but this 6 month mammo will actually be my annual mammo (both "girls" will have a mammo and ultrasoound) at my next appointment. I'm kinda feeling like a who's on first, what's on 2nd skit when I explain it that way Smile Part of my treatment plan is a 6 month followup for 2 years. My breast surgeon is the one who gave me the script (prescription) for the mammo and ultrasound and then I scheduled it.

I was told to schedule my mammogram appointment for the affected breast six months after radiation was completed. The 6 month appointment after that was when I went back to my bilateral mammo. If you are not doing rads, they may want you to schedule your appointment earlier, but I would still give it enough time to make certain that your breast is completely healed from the surgery. The first one after was a big ouch!  All of the ones since have been pretty much as they were before diagnosis.

Should you get a mammogram during radiation or wait until it's done?

My rad onc told me 6 months after radiation is complete for the first mamo. The breast needs time to heal from the rads.

Some time these Dr.'s frustrate me so much, I finished my rads 10/31, and still not sure when I am supposed to have a diagnostic mammogram on my right breast. I have had 2 different answers.I have a diagnostic mammogram scheduled for Tuesday 2/14 just my right breast that had DCIS. But now I am reading I may not need need one till April. Does the date of the mammogram depend on the type of cancer you had??

I finished my rads in November.  RO scheduled diagnostic mamo for mid April, the following day see the MO, then the next day the RO.  It is my understanding, that this may be the routine every 6 months for the next 3-5 yrs.

BS scheduled my mammogram for 6 months after lumpectomy. I did wind up having an earlier mammogram, because I was having rads and the rad.onc. wanted a baseline.
