Hi, Kburdic and welcome!!!! Jaytee, I do have room on my balcony for containers, great idea and thank you!!! I just read that peppers are a great food to reduce belly fat!!! Now I can't wait to get back and those containers started. Thanks for the reminder!!! O.K. , now everyone scold me, I just had a huge brownie that my neighbor brought me!!!!
-
Vivvy girl LOLZ so funny
Brutal honesty I believe we said- um- the levis I finally got in to are size 14's. Ugh! xo

Good Evening Ladies & to the newcomers! Today was my first day back after my exchange surgery so I did not do the "dreadmill" again. BUT..I did make very healthy choices eatting today, so that has to count for something. Now if I can stay out of the kitchen for the rest of the evening then maybe the scale will show a positive move in the AM. 'Im loving the sense of humor going on here and honesty!! Let's stay strong and motivated
Enjoy the rest of the evening.
Janet

Jaytee,
I would also like to hear what everyone likes for a low cal snack option... I seem to hit a point in the afternoon where I need a little something...
My snacks of choice recently have been Raw Snap Peas with just a very tiny bit of lo-fat dip, Quaker Quakes Mini Rice Cakes... 120 calories for 13 pieces and 10 grams of whole grains... They come in savory flavors as well as sweet, so a little something for everyone... To satisfy my huge sweet tooth... I bought a bag of Hershey kisses and will have 1 kiss (not bag..lol) when I need a chocolate 'fix'...
Hope you all had a good day! -
Kathy,
No scolding from me..
If a neighbor showed up at my door bearing a brownie, I would take it and eat it, too... After all, it would be downright un-neighborlyto refuse, right? Lol!!
Tenaj,
Give yourself some time to heal and, yes, good food choices absolutely count!
Lovemyfamily,
Size is just a number and for ladies clothing, thankfully, the tag is on the inside... For the poor guys the jeans put your size right out there for all to see... Why??
The point being... Doesn't matter where you are starting from...Progress is progess!! Congrats on getting into those jeans! -
Totally agree with enjoying the neighbors treats. That is very special to have neighbors like that.
I enjoy an afternoon snack of whole wheat fig newtons with a cup of tea. 100 calories for a serving of 2 cookies. -
Hi all ,
Have just got back from doctors appointment and have got a referral to a dietician and exercise program for people with chronic disease .
Hoping this will kick start me .
Mmmmmm love brownies .
Hugs
Viv
Is it wrong to know you are going to be going to a dietician so you treat yourself to coffee and cake ? -
Yes, you are all so nice and accepting, thanks for all the encouragement and humor!!!!! Have a great evening!!!!! Kathy
-
The brownie sounded delicious...........at least it was just one, thats better than baking a pan of brownies and eating half of them. I can be a picker-----have a pan of brownies in the kitchen and just take a little piece each time I go in there-----I do that with pie too, take little tiny slivers........okay thats another bad habit to add to my list!
tenaj-----hope you are feeling well after your surgery, extra thoughts coming your way for quick healing
seaside----love the snap peas too, can't wait to plant more this year, I mostly stand out in the garden and just eat them raw, very few make their way into the house although they are so good to put into a salad. I haven't had a rice cake in a long time----remember the first ones that came out , the plain ones? Wonder if the sweet flavored ones would be good to crumble up and put in yogurt. I tried to eat a lot of yogurt when I was going through chemo, but I have kind of got away from it. I liked the probiotic type of yogurt and would put some granola in it for a bit of crunch.
loves----hey, if you are like me being able to button those jeans yesterday was a huge step, keep doing what you are doing and there's no where to go but......down (in pants sizes that is)
Viv, you can do it-----------we are all going to root for you
I talked to one of my sisters today----she is having some success in weight loss using a book called 'The 17 day diet'. Saw a review of it on webmd and read some reviews on amazon. Doesnt sound too weird or unhealthy. I'm going to look for it at the library and check it out-----its not just a 17 day diet, but several cycles lasting 17 days each , its supposed to keep your metabolism fired up. So far I have been better about making healthy choices , but I may need something a little more structured,
Gonna call it a night-------hugs to all
-
Welcome to all the new folks. I'm getting sick - cold/flu, whatever. Coughed all night & was up from 3:00 am until about 6:00. Slept for about two more hours.
Family problems interrupted the interview yesterday I had completed the face to face interview, three written tests, and was about to complete an online test when I saw the call come in on my cell, which was on vibrate. I had to excuse myself from the interview process to take the call. Family member was being taken to the ER so I had to end the remaining portion of the interview to rush to the hospital. :-( They were very understanding. I've called today and left a message that I would like to schedule to complete the interview process. I'm so tired! Emotionally & physically drained.
I might not be able to keep up with you for a little bit. I'm sorry. I hope you guys keep moving forward and I'll check back in when I can.
-
Dear PlantLover , I will be thinking of you and please know that you have a great support system here!! Take care of your self and your family, Fondly Kathy
-
Plantlover.......Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.....and a lot of stress on top of it all too.....hope your family member was ok. Take care of yourself----hope you will have time to make a nice cup of tea, settle into a comfy chair with a gardening catalog or two and rest! Get a good nights sleep tonight and we'll see you when you are feeling better. Hugs.
-
PlantLover,
The 'creeping crud' is spreading through my house as well! DH kicked it off, then on to me and now my son! My daughter is the last hold out!
Hoping that all worked out for your family member. While the timing stinks, family comes first and hopefully the people you were interviewing with understand that! Otherwise, maybe this was a sign that this position would not be a good fit!
Hope tomorrow finds you feeling better!
As an aside, I've been reading up on the 'lasagna garden method' and have a couple of questions when things are a little less crazy for you! -
Good morning everyone
Going to wish everyone well for the day and the weekend ahead. The weather turned cold here again--I did actually get my walk in yesterday even though it was snowing-----that was an accomplishment for me cause usually a little bit of bad weather is more than enough of an excuse to stay in. Been trying to keep up with the healthy eating plan---husbands birthday is coming up and I am saving up so I can have a piece of the birthday dessert. Daughter found a recipe on line for something called 'Crack Pie'----that name has diet buster written all over it.
I'm visiting my sisters and Dad over the weekend. Will be thinking of you all and hope I can check in from sisters computer, if not see you in a few days. My sisters neighborhood is a good one for walking so I plan to continue the daily walk.
Stay strong everyone----if we had a pretty good week last week it seems like this one has presented more challenges but that is certainly what life if all about, isnt it? Oh, goodness that is an understatement considering what we have all been through and are still going through! You will all be on my mind ----------sending prayers and hugs!

Today I was determined to not cheat when I went grocery shopping and to the PS of course I was starving so in the parking lot I did a little tail gaiting of my own I made myself a turkey sandwich on 100 calorie roll with laughing cow 35 calorie cheese as my spread. I got some weird looks but avoided the fast food windows - I found a great site for great recipies http://www.hungry-girl.com/
thanks for all your support
-
Dear Seaside andJaytee!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!! K.burdic ,great job and a great sandwich. I learn so much from all of you!!!!
-
Hello all ... still feeling crappy and dealing with family issues. Trying to take things one day at a time.
kburdic ... Good way to have a low calorie snack and who cares about the looks, right? Much better than hitting the fast food window!
Seaside ... Fire away with your questions!
-
Jaytee: have a nice weekend with family & happy birthday to your hubby!
Plant lover: I hope your feeling better & family issues are resolving.
Seaside: I hope everyone is feeling better in your home.
Kburdic: I'll check that site out, thanks. Healthy eating, good for you!!
I hope all you other ladies are feeling well & making good choices.
I survived my first week back to work.( I work part-time) I did manage to get on the treadmill today when I got home, 2.5 miles in 45 minutes. My motivation was that I needed to do something for myself & get my mind off the issues im having with the insurance company. I spent 1 hour on the phone, trying to get to the right person to make an appeal because they denied payment of my PetScan on 7/26/11. I was told & the MD office was told I didn't need pre authorization & now they are denying payment. As you girls know this was needed for staging & deciding if chemo was needed. I can't believe how much energy it takes dealing with these people. Now it was sent to collection!!! Unbelievable... Sorry I just had to vent.... -
Hi, Tenaj, please vent!!! I know we are good listeners here!!! You sure have alot on your plate right now!!!! Exercise does help with the stress, but sending good thoughts and prayers your way to get these other issues resolved!!!!! Just make sure you take care of YOU!!!!! Hi, PLANTLOVER! Good to see you, you can not keep a good woman down!!!!!! I hope you feel better and that family issues get resolved!!!! Kathy
-
Oops , forgot to say that I did alot of walking today , but did badly on food choices!! We closed on our house today, so we are flying back to CA. It will be good to be back with the sons, normal eating and my exercise routine!!!!! Thanks again for keeping me motivated!!!! Kathy
-
Kathy thanks for the supporting words. Congrats on finalizing on your home. Check that off he list. Somedays we don't eat as well as we should but at least you walked!! Safe trip back to CA. Enjoy your family & every day!!!

Hey ladies? Can I join in on the "fun"?
My name is Tori...and I am a BIG girl....I lost over 50 pounds from 2008-2009...and although I probably had another 25 pounds to lose, I was able to maintain it until I got my diagnosis. I tried my best to keep moving during treatment, but it slowly got the best of me...
I started boot camp on January 3rd and went everyday in January (except weekends)...it was hard, but I kept going...I just started my second month and although I have to be careful with my arm so I don' t get LE, ( I wear a sleeve) I'm really enjoying it...The first couple of weeks was agonizing...realizing I had muscles in places I didn't know existed, but now it's getting better and I am feeling stronger...and I really like that!
My downfall? My eating.... I too, am an emotional eater..always have been....bleh...The scale has not moved at all...I know, that I may be losing inches, but we all know (being women) we like to see that number go down, right? I admit it, I need help and I hope having to be accountable, to someone, it will help me get to where I need to be...I hate being big..I hate seeing myself in the mirror like this, and I hate feeling all this "extra" on my 5'2" frame.
I'm a military spouse too, and my husband deploys in April for 6 months...that always makes me eat...I"m hoping I can change that too....
At any rate, I want to do a 5k in June...so that is my goal. I know, a 5K...not a big deal for most, but for me, it will be a huge accomplishment.
I'm hoping that if you all let me hang out with you here, I can get some good ideas, some support, some advice and you'll let me do the same for you all...
God bless!
Tori

Kindergarten---I did the opposite today, made good food choices but took a day off from walking---had to get more cleaning done before I leave tomorrow. Have a safe trip back to Ca----talked to an Aunt this evening who lives there, she said it has been 75-80 degrees out in her part of the state. That sounds just perfect to me.
Tenaj----the word I use to describe dealing with insurance companies is 'maddening'. I hope your issue gets resolved quickly. Good job working off the frustration on the treadmill today
Kburdic------I think that you get 1st prize today for food choices
I try so hard not to go to the grocery store hungry but sometimes it just doesnt work out that way. Everytime we pass up going thru a fast food drive thru, we should put the money we would have spent into a jar and save up for something really special.
Plantlover----good to see you today! Keep hanging in there.
Hi ToriGirl-----welcome, welcome---we would love to have you join us. Getting that emotional eating under control is a real challenge. You sound like you are determined to make some changes and that is a good start. Hey, you are taller than me! I'm only 5 ft..We shorties dont have much room for that extra weight to go or rather it goes in the wrong directions! I realized the other day that my family has very few pictures of me because I just dont like getting my picture taken with this extra weight. That is not a good thing. That is a wonderful goal to run a 5 k. We will all be cheering you on!
-
Dear Jaytee, if you ever come to CAto visit your aunt, please look me up!!! Welcome Torigirl!!!! This such a wonderful and supportive thread!!! We will all be cheering you on as you prepare for the 5 K. Please tell your husband thank you for his service!!!!!! Kathy
-
Morning Kindergarten---------my aunt wanted me to visit a couple years ago---am ashamed to say I was afraid to fly. Would love to see Ca someday. I'm puttering around this morning, have got to get on the road. There is some snow coming later today and I hope to miss it.
I almost forgot to pack my pajamas! Its been a year since chemo so I cant blame it on chemo brain anymore! Have a great day!
-
Hi Ladies, just checking in to see how you all are doing. I always wanted to go to CA too!! Someday! Hope you don't get too much snow Jaytee. We're suppose to get some too. Hope not too much because I don't have the OK yet to lift & my hubby had surgery last week. ( The good news his was B9!!!-he had a bone lesion on his ankle) Have a wonderful day
-
Dear Tenaj, great news about your hubby!!! Yes, don't do too much, get a nice young kid from the neighborhood to shovel for you. I feel bad to say this, but we are back in CA. The weather is nice. I hope you all do not get tons of snow. Please be safe out there. Tomorrow, back to a normal exercise routine. Have a great weekend, everyone!!!!!!!
-
Kindergarten, hope your enjoying the nice weather. We only good a dusting, yeah!!
I did the treadmill for an hour today, 3.25 miles!! It's the most I have EVER did..I am determined to trim down. Just finished making a batch of cabbage/vegetable soup & Lentil soup. This usually helps me to loose a bit. Fingers crossed. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend & making good choices. Janet

Hi, Ladies, It feels good to resume my walking, we did an hour walk today. I also do my lymphedema exercises everyday and they take about 10 minutes. Every other day, I do the exercises with weights, if I remember. I have learned lately, that I really hate exercise, he,he!!! But I love to walk and ride bikes. What I am doing now, is exercising throughout the day, bending, leg lifts, climbing stairs, etc. It sure helps, a little bit throughout the day adds up. When I do laundry, I lift the bottle of detergent like it is a weight and I lift it up above my head and then down to the floor as many times as I can. Crazy, but I hope it works. I am also on a low carb diet, but I did have spaghetti today. Enjoy your Sunday, everyone!!! Thanks again for all of your motivation on this thread!!!! Kathy
-
Hey all,
Just posting to say, I am still hanging in there! Doing my 40 minutes of the 'dreadmill' and 20 on the weight machine 6 days per week... Changed up my cardio a bit and am doing a bit different of a routine...
Started eating more frequently... yes, more.. Because I think I was quilty of putting myself into starvation mode.... Also, drinking a lot more water.... I always heard thst you should drink lots of water but, never understood why.... Found a really great article that discusses the role of water in fat metabolism.... Will post more about that when I get a couple of spare minutes....
Hope tonight finds you all well!
Welcome to the new comers!! The more, the merrier!
