Just found this thread and recognize some of you-glad to meet the rest of you. I live in a small town north of Hamilton-rmidway between Cincinnati and Dayton. 45 minutes away from either.
Looks like this group includes the whole gamut-from those just starting to those who have been thru it and coming out on the other side.
I have my 1 year cancerversary coming up at the end of the month and have just changed medicines. I have started oral drugs Tykerb/Xeloda-5 days now and so far so good.
TonLee-good luck on your ooph on Friday
Eileen-you have the same name as my sister. First one I have ever met besides her. I did TCH starting in March of last year and it wasn't too much of a problem for me. The TCH thread has some real experts on it. They know all the tricks to getting thru it if you haven't yet checked them out
-
Welcome lilylady! Glad the new meds are treating you well so far....hope it continues!
-
Tonya------sure hope you are feeling better this evening and can get some rest tonight. Sounds like you have got a busy day tomorrow before going in on Fri. Rest up, recover quickly and get back to that remodeling!
-
Tonya - remodeling???? I hope you get it done before your surgery tomorrow. Sending some good vibes your way for Friday...good luck!
-
Good luck tomorrow TonLee.
Friday will be busy for me. See the surgeon to schedule "deportation". Then go to see about some bras. To finish the day off....let the horns blow loudly....my last Herceptin!!
-
Yay sewingnut!--------Happy last herceptin day! Celebrating with you, I was so glad when mine was done in Dec.
-
Kelloggs -
A while ago you asked about my 4th TCH treatment. (i was so busy reading other threads that I forgot to check back on the Ohio thread.). Anyway, the 4th treatment was not too bad. So far my 3rd was the worst for fatigue and aches. Not sure why.
As a side note, I think I made a huge mistake last week when I decided to get a little natural Vitamin D. As you Ohio ladies know, we've seen the sun a lot this winter. Because my Vitamin D level is low, I sat outside on my porch to get some sun on my face and arms. not long - just 15 minutes. I'm assuming the ugly, nasty rash I got all over my face was a result of the sun. After the skin peeled and flaked off (and using a ton of lotion) the rash has finally cleared up after a week. I guess I won't do that again! -
Sewingnut-
How wonderful that tomorrow is your last Herceptin!!! WoooHooo!!!! -
Tonlee..good luck tomorrow!'
Eileen..Solon..been there a few times...at Miles Farmers Market..and of course the Legacy Mall..good stuff..beautiful city..
-
Thanks Cookie.....just had #4 yesterday and of course I feel fine so far. I think #3 hit me the hardest so far. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend...we are getting more snow today!
-
Well it didn't happen.
I stopped eating drinking the night before, like ordered.
Got to the hospital at 0915 with a surgery time of 11:30. Vitals, changed into the gown, IV inserted and then I just waited for my surgeon to be done with the hysterectomy before me. She only scheduled two surgeries today because she's 6 months pregnant and taking it easy.
I waited.
Waited.
Waited some more.
Turns out the hysterectomy ahead of me had complications, those pesky things that are so down played by most Docs. Sitting here writing this, I am not sure the woman will survive, and if she does, I'm not sure how qualitative it will be. There were serious, numerous complications (which likely involved the bladder and bowel).
At 5:30 I yanked the IV out of my arm, sick with caffeine withdrawal, sick of waiting, got dressed and told the nurse to have the surgeon reschedule. They made noises about me not leaving until I was "released" by the surgeon. But I blew right past that.....what? Am I a HOSTAGE? Because THAT'S WHAT IT FELT LIKE!! I said, how can you just expect me to sit here hour after hour with no food or water, not even an ice cube, with a screaming headache that you won't treat because you can't reach my surgeon to get permission because she's in EMERGENCY surgery! Airlines can't keep people like this...what makes you think you can?
My surgeon WAS STILL IN SURGERY AT 5:30PM!! She'd not eaten or had a drink of anything in all that time....and she's 6 months pregnant! No WAY I was going to let her operate on me after all that. I heard all the surgeons they paged to the OR....can you imagine a quick two hour hysterectomy turning into an over 9 hour (at last check) ordeal?
No friggin way.
So I left. Walked out. Vamoosed.
Got some supper, some dessert, and now I'm lamenting my entire WASTED day...and the fact I have to do this all over again....and I will...but I also have to wonder....did my life long bad luck Feb streak just show true to form..or did it break? If I woulda been first, perhaps that scapel slip woulda been on me......
-
Wow! What an awful experience you just went through! You certainly didn't need that extra stress.
-
i am blown away by all of that and really don't know what to say, either.
-
Tonya, what an ordeal...I am so sorry! It sucks you had to go all day without eating and not knowing but like you said, maybe it's better. Try to enjoy your weekend!
-
Good afternoon ladies. Does anyone know where in Ohio to purchase the ice gloves and ice slippers to protect your nails? I have been searching for an hour and cannot find anything other than mail order. I do not have time for that I start chemo on wednesday. Thanks
-
eileen - I am not an Ohio girl, but thought I would chime in. You always have the option of bags of frozen peas for your first chemo to allow time for the gloves/slippers to come in the mail. I used frozen peas the entire way through chemo with no problems.
-
Thanks Kathy, I will do that if I cannot find any in my area. I appreciate all your help.
Hugs Eileen
-
No problem!
-
TonLee=so sorry about your Friday. You absolutely did the right thing. What were they thinking to not have dismissed you after it was obvious they weren't going to get to you? I hope you get rescheduled soon-and get the first appt of the day. And it maybe wasn;t a surgical error but something that went wrong with the lady herself.
-
Lily,
The tech told me it was surgical error. She wasn't supposed too, but it was obvious to me since the same surgeon briefed me on potential complications and told me 99% of them are surgeon error. Then went over the possible complications and the other surgeons she'd have to bring in .. if for instance she sliced into the bowel or bladder...those are exactly the surgeons paged over the intercom to the OR.
I kind of thought she'd call me, but no calls yet. I'm going to pop into the office on Monday
-
i'm off to my first AC tx....very very mixed emotions here...bring it on!!! i want this cancer done!
we leave in a half hour and i have a feeling that it is going to be a long day!
here's wishing we all have a good week!
-
oh Tonlee----I was away for a few days----just finding out how terrible a day you had on Fri! Am inclined to agree that that was not the day to have that surgery done. How are you doing this week?
lumpynme---how are you feeling after your first chemo? Same here with the mixed emotions----scared, yet ready to fight. The worst time for me was the initial diagnosis and all the blur of tests and scans----it was all so overwhelming---I felt better when we got to the actual cancer butt kicking and A/C is one of the black belts of the cancer butt kickers! Take care----keeping you in my prayers
-
i actually feel good- monday (tx) and tuesday some queasieness but took my compazine; today i am feeling some tight/tense in my upper sholders and neck which could be stress or slept wrong or my neulasta ( i think it's that but trying to downplay!)
i think part of why i feel better today is that i HAVE started kicking butt!!!!! i am worried about the future-hoping i don't have to have a few drugs--but will take what comes as it comes cuz i want to move forward and get back to life!!!!!!!!!!! ( i miss school)
i am tired..and lazy...but i am ok! i wrote a freakin book over on the chemo feb 2012 thread so won't bore you all here!
i am worried about hitting the wall tomorrow cuz i have made an obligation to my daughter to go apartment sit to wait for a furniture delivery ...but i will take hubby in case i can't drive etc....
our cancer ctr has a monthly bc support group which happened to meet this past monday nite so i went -i was the youngest -in tx dates and in age but it was a good evening and i was glad that i went.
i am hating the weather that we have right now- wishing for the snow to go away and bring back the 50's and 60's--i actually want to live on the big island of hawaii-we were moving there once (hubby lived there 7 years) but my need for family is so much greater-tho this winter -even tho it has been mild--has made me want it again! i want to get outside to walk but the sidewalks here are nasty and uneven and i just don't think it's really safe(i have a bad ankle)
anyhow- i feel good today -so far!!!!!
-
Good to hear that you are in fightin' mode. Don't worry about feeling lazy--get all the rest you need I didnt come here while I was in chemo and wish that I had---there is so much good info and advice about getting through treatment here. Stay strong! I'll be dreaming of Hawaii along with you!
-
Hey Jaytee,
I'm good. New surgery date of March 2nd. My surgeon's nurse called and said the surgeon really appreciated how understanding I was....and that the dr said, "That patient must have a 6th sense." Because not only did she have a horrible day in surgery, something catastrophic happened the SAME DAY to someone in her immediate family!
She was relieved and THANKFUL I left.
Isn't that awesome?
Plus the March date gets me out of my bad luck month of Feb! WOO HOO!
-
Tonya - glad they got you rescheduled and it got you out of back luck February! That's got to be a good sign!
-
I am from Akron. I go to chemo dr march 2. I have stage 1a. Negative lymph nodes. Recurrence of 22 per cent in 5 years.
I am very new to this lingo you all talk about. And hope that I can add more info to all this...please bear with me -
Munny - Welcome to the club no one wants to join! I am from Canton so just down the road from you. Please come here any time you have questions or just need support or to vent. The ladies on this site are fabulous and have helped me tremendously on this journey!
-
Good morning all--------hello munnybunni and welcome!
Cold wet morning in central Ohio---kinda gloomy here
Tonlee----with so many doctors in my life right now----I sure dont want to think of them having bad days like that!-----and yet how could they not sometimes-----------anyway, even though you had that terrible Fri, sounds like it worked out for the best and you listened to your intuition and made the right decision to leave. I have been wondering what I would have done.
Weekends almost here----------have a good one everybody!
-
Hello Ohio Ladies -
Had #5 TCH chemo on Tuesday, so only one more to go! The crappy news is that my veins in my left arm are shot. So since I still have to have Herceptin every 3 weeks until November, I decided to get a port. Was hoping I could get thru this mess without one, but it's not going to happen. Oh well, what's one more scar.
Wishing the best to everyone on this discussion board!
Think Spring! I already saw some robins last week!
