    Mary,
I googled the UGG slippers and there are 47 pages of them-what kind do you recommend? Thanks for the info. I had planned to buy a good slipper when my heel gets better because I definitely don't want to be wearing shoes all day.

I've not heard of the UGG slippers and will google them too. But I just thought I'd add-- on shoe type, with plantars fasciitis, we need a shoe that doesn't slip. For me, that's eliminated any shoe that doesn't have a back or a strap around the ankle--except for "show." Not for work, walking, real life!!

I'm a barefoot gal, too, but I've had to get over that. TEVA's work well for me because they have both an arch that's similar to my natural arch and a strap. The custom insert is designed to be an exact reverse copy of your arch placed in an anatomically correct position; that's why the pain goes away--the arch is supported. The plantars fascia goes all along the bottom of your foot from the heel to the ball--right thru the arch.

Make sure whatever you buy has arch support that's comfy for you. If you got slippers with a back, you could wear the custom arch supports inside. My PT told me once I got my arch supports, I could wear even cheap shoes because I'd have my expensive arch support. Yeah, I keep changing mine from shoe to shoe. What a pain. I think my trouble has resurfaced because the custom arch, after several years, doesn't fit my one foot very well any more for some reason--our feet do keep changing.

You can occasionally buy a shoe that has an arch that's similar to yours and to your custom orthotics. The forever search for the magic shoes. If you find a pair--buy more than one!!!

I am thinking my neuroma problem is aggrevated by backless shoes. I've been trying to avoid long walks in my clogs, and it might actually be helping.

My husband and I signed up for Salsa dancing. We are a sight since neither of us are very good. I went in my athletic shoes but they don't work because it's hard to twirl in them. Most wear leather soled heels, which is not what I need. I've ordered some 'dance sneakers' and hope they'll work out. They have a rubber botton but it's not too thick and is contoured for twirling.

    Ginger,
Thanks so much for the info. I have an appt for the custom orthotics next Friday. I am anxious to get some help. When I wear my new shoes all day, my heel hurts a little, but the rest of my foot hurts now.
I love my Teva's and hope to use them this summer.

I have custom orthotics for my closed back shoes ie, running shoes I wear to work or normal walking shoes. They were expensive but worth it, about $400.00 I think. They were completely covered under my insurance at work.
For summer I practically live in Birkenstocks sandals, they kind of conform to your feet and are so comfortable.

I can not go barefeet any more, sometimes my heels kill me even when lying down in bed, just the weight of my heels pressing into the bed is enough to drive me insane. I end up sleeping on my side.

    I hate plantar facciitis sucks!!

    Tina,

Good job on the WW so far today!!! I knew there was more to you than donuts...

Try the frozen water bottle thing - I really think that has been helping - two of the last three mornings I woke up and walked to the bathroom with no pain!!! (just a little stiff)

    Denise,

When you get your orthotics you may need to work up to full time wear. My PT started me out on my orthotics at 2 hours a day, adding an hour each day until full time.

    Rose,
Salsa dancing, wow! Yet more exercise for you!! And you get your husband to do it!!!

    Tinairene,

Have you ever tried a night splint? I too have pain when lying in bed, so I don't expect much when I get out in the morning. However, since I've worn a night splint the middle of the night pain has gone away and I don't have any trouble in the morning. (I'm still working on lots of walking--some days are better than others.)

There's some soft kind of night splint that just made my foot arch up and was sooo narrow at the toe that I got more aches!! You'd need one that's made out of a hard surface, stiff on the bottom for sure, and keeps your foot from pointing ballet-style in the night. Your foot either stays at 90% to your leg or slightly less to keep your plantars fascia stretched to normal.

I like Birks too but the surface is too hard for me and mine have no backs, so I wear them only to water flowers or if I'm doing something that won't include much actual walking--like eating out, visiting friends.

Listen, girls...I'm telling you...Nothinz are the best! I didn't say much about them on my post about the fat-free fudgsicles, but I had a bone spur which was work-related. I stopped doing that job and it SLOWLY got better, but I'm still very protective of my heel.

I bought my Nothinz at our local Birkenstock store, but they can be ordered online:
    http://www.shoes.com/product.asp?p=50177...CMP=OTC-Bizrate

I was having some pain in my ankle and since I've been wearing Nothinz (virtually all the time), it's disappeared! They're like a clog but have a strap you can use for stability if you want. They look like Crocs but are MUCH better! The inside is kind of like a Birkenstock. They're VERY lightweight, and are made of a material that never loses its shape and will never have an odor. They're very spongy feeling so they absorb impact from walking VERY effectively, are skid-resistant, and they become more pliable with your foot in them because of foot warmth. They clean w/ soap and water or you can put them in the dishwasher. They come in a variety of colors and a part of the proceeds goes to fight pediatric cancer! They cost $30 and it's free shipping on the above web site. And they are the MOST comfortable shoe I've ever, EVER worn, including my walking sneakers (Reebok DMX Max)!!

    Hope this info helps!

    Hugs, Liza

How many of your shoes can you wash in the dishwasher?? (I sound like a salesperson for the company, don't I? I swear, no affiliation!!)

I had to jump in and tell you that the best place for armchair shopping for shoes is http://www.Zappos.com

You have up to one whole year to return them if you are not happy with them and they give you the label for free shipping.

I'm rather particular about wearing comfy shoes. I like a heel but with gummy soles for some cushion. So picture, being dressy enough for work but comfortable enough for a long walk through an airport. I've always found what I wanted from Zappos. (no - I have no affiliation with them either)

Laura - so glad you made it back.
I'm sure NYC has plenty of dieting ladies, but I always seemed to end up places with humongous corned beef sandwiches.

    Thanks for the encouragement ladies.

I went to Costco with my friend yesterday on my day off. I really thought about what I would buy this time instead of buying things on a whim.
I ate breakfast before going (for a change) so I was not starving and buying everything in sight, I totally ignored the samples.
As you know, I am severely lacking in willpower these days and therefore did not buy anything that I consider dangerous, if they are not in the house I can't eat them.

So...onward to the weekend, always difficult for me because of the lack of structure, at work I have certain times for meals and no snacking in between times. Praying for willpower

Laura, glad you are back and had a marvellous time. I hope to get to NYC one day.

    Enjoy your W/E girls, Tina

    Kari,

Thanks for the advice, I will try that. I normally take Advil or Motrin but now that I am taking Dixarit for the hot flashes (working wonderfully by the way) NSAIDs are contraindicated. I try to stay away from Tylenol...my poor liver

    Take care, Tina

    Hi Ginger,

I have a prescription for a Plantar Fascia night splint, funny you should mention that. I am going to see about it on Monday. I have the Birks with a kind of cork sole, a bit softer and with the warmth of the foot it kind of molds to your foot.

    Thanks for the advise, Tina

    Good job at Costco.

I belonged there for awhile. It busted my budget. Everything came in big packages, I always spent $100 when I went there, and I still needed to do other shopping.

Then we got ready to sell our house and move and I started cleaning out the kitchen. I kept finding 1/2 empty packages of things I'd bought there -- that I ended up throwing out.
In the meantime my local grocery started stocking larger sizes of some essentials like tp and chicken breasts, so I dropped the Costco membership.

I know there are people who swear by it, but it just didn't work for me.

    enjoy the weekend, Tina

Hey Ladies!!! Betweem feet, fat and shoulders we are a group of Misfits!!! Too funny when you think about it! I have never worn UGGs but boy they look comfortable. I had a meeting and brought donuts, they didn't eat them, DH wouldn't take them to work. So three is a small number to what I ate! Yep I know I have to get over it and get back on it!

I don't have such a large crowd to feed anymore.

    Roasted Tofu -

    1) cut 14 oz of tofu into 12 slices
    2) preheat oven to 400
    3) in a saucepan simmer 3tbs orange juice, 3tbl soy sauce, fresh ginger
    4) remove from heat and mix in rice vinegar, 3 tpb sesame oil
    5) put slices in shallow pan, our sauce over them
    6) roast for 45 minutes

It's good with rice and green beans, but watch out if you are staying away from salt.

Sounds delicious Rose, I love green beans and have a great recipe for making them Lebanese style.

Green beans cut however you like
    couple of regular onions
1 can of diced plum tomatoes
salt/pepper and a bit of garlic minced or cut up small

sautee the onions and garlic until see through not browned though.
Add the green beans and sautee for a few minutes, 5-8 min, they don't have to be cooked through.
Add tomatoes and simmer for about 30 min. tomato juice will be reduced and it will almost look thickened.
Eat with pita bread. I love this dish.

I'm right on track with the WW.

Tina - my grandma used to make that with kibbah - I was too young to eat tomatoes and green beans together but might have to give it a try now that I've "matured"!

Good job on the staying on track!

I'm going to try that. I have a big bag of frozen green beans. It'll be good with my rice.

I am bad about snacking after dinner, so something that fills me up is a good move.

This is my favorite recipe for green beans:

1 pound fresh string beans, stem ends removed
    1 TB olive oil
    1 tsp. Old Bay Seasoning
1/3 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped

Boil green beans for about 3 minutes, drain.
Saute green beans in oil for about 1 minute, sprinkle on pecans or walnuts and Old Bay. Cook about 2 more minutes or until beans and nuts are slightly browned.
Serves 4. 123 calories per serving

These are wonderful with the green beans from my very own garden-I can't wait to start planting!

    hi ladies,

you are doing so well. Today I was looking for fennel but could not find any. Instead I bought super nice looking beets. Sofar I had them only out of a glass jar, pickled.
Now I have to figure the internet recipes to find out how to make a dish out of them.
Lots of antioxidants in red beets.

I ran today and feel fit, I just wish I was 10 lbs lighter.
At least that way it is "weight" bearing exercise lol

Tonight we try Salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli (which I love, dont know about the fish part though..)

Hope you have a very nice evening!

    God Bless
