Kimmy-you are going to be fine. Even though it is a huge pain and totally stressful and scary its good to go every 6 months because if there IS something they will catch it early. THis happened to me around 40-they found calcs so I had to go every six months. For 2 years there were no changes so back to yearly. Stupid me skipped the first yearly and so within 2 years cancer had develeoped on my other breast. If I had been going 6 months they would have caught it even earlier than they actually did. There are lots of people that have to do the 6 months diagnostic who are fine-many more than who are not.
Happy Birthday!

You really have been through a lot Kimmy and I think that you are much much stronger than you think you are. I will say a prayer for you.

The Birads classification causes us a lot of stress. Like you, I was labeled a Birads 3 on both my left and right breast in 2006 and told to come back in 6 months.
Because I wanted to have breast reduction, my PCP pushed for me to have compression mammograms and ultrasound. Those ruled out the left breast as having a benign complex cyst and was label Birads 3. The right breast was still Birads 3 with no specific findings.
My PCP then told me to have a biopsy done as a plastic surgeon would not touch me unless it was clear what was going on in my breast.
I had an excisional biopsy (lumpectomy by any other name) because no specific lumps could be detected in the area in question.
That lumpectomy found my IDC and I went on to have a mastectomy of my right breast.
Six months after the first mammogram, I went back in for the follow up on my left breast. That mammogram came back as BIRADs 5 because of calcifications.
I went straight to having a simple mastectomy because I wanted to be evened out. After slicing and dicing the whole breast, nothing was found that was not typical benign changes of an aging breast.
I guess the point of my story is BIRADS just serms to be a crap shoot based on what the radiologist thinks might or might not be there.

I have been goin through this calcs since 2007.I just keepetting these calcs every year and dont know the reason why.i go back to my yearly and then i get happy. As time goes by then i end up getting more and then back to very six months.I dont know when tis nightmare will ever end.i am so nervous about tomorrow.I have allways been a birads three.I have never had to get a biopsy.I supposed thats a good thing. They never let me talk to the radilogist and i dont think thats fair.

Hi Kimmy, sending you a hug. I don't have much to add other than lots of us have that 6 month stress, with increasing problems or changes all of the time. You are doing the best you can for your kids - staying vigilant, taking care of yourself. Sometimes we have to let the universe unfold as it's going to, and "it is what it is" applies! So take a deep breath and stay in the present, don't let your mind skip ahead to what ifs. Your "what ifs" are significant having lost your husband, I understand! I am not trying to minimize your fears at all. Actually not being afraid and sticking your head in the sand, skipping appointments, etc would be much worse!!
I try to look at stress as feeding the monster, if there is one - stress is not good for your blood pressure, prolonged adrenaline rushes, probably not eating, sleeping or exercising right et al. So take back control and you'll feel better. I know this is a lot of philosophy, I had surgery in Nov 2007 and have been riding this roller coaster, as well.
Take good care of yourself, sweetie. And demand to talk to the radiologist, that's crazy!!!
