being while talking on the phone! ahhhhhhhh!
90 yoga, with a cold! Blech! I hate having a cold! I got though it but now I'm going to bed. My head feels like it's going to explode!
Third floor bathrooms, smart Kari!
-
Spring - did you try this lymph node draining massage for head congestion?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA-wi0d7-Ro&feature=related
Hope you feel better today!
-
A word of caution, that my LE therapist told us in the LE class, do not perform manual lymph drainage/massage if you have a cold or flu!! Who knew?!!!!!!!!! Spring, its that nightmare work project and having no down time that got you sick! UGH! Don't you normally work from home? Are you working on nightmare project at the office or do you do a work at office/work at home combo? Feel better soon. hugs
Survivor, did you get your scans and the fridge fixed??
-
Kari, Why can't we do MLD with a cold? I just did it! ha! Was there reasons you can remember?
Survivor, yes, I do use some of those those head congenstion things, I'm not sure if it worked or not... I think the exercise itself actually helped, maybe it moves things along some...
45 Elliptical tonight. Not letting the cold get me down! Plus, I am standing more at work when I can instead of sitting all the time. It is hard to remember, but when I'm on call where I don't need to pay attention as much, I get up and move around, stretch, etc. I hope this helps...
Kari, I work at home all the time. Thank God, at least there is no commute, or dressing up or makeup! LOL.
-
Spring, the LE therapist didn't explain why not to do the MLD while sick...I see her Tuesday, I will try and remember to ask!! And LUCKY you with no commute OR MAKEUP!! LOL!!!
I need to get up to the 3rd floor this afternoon, I didn't make it up there this morning - UGH!! Legs are a bit sore. No walk at lunch, must do something after work!
-
Saturday, got my hair cut with a friend then had lunch. Home. Raining! No bike ride... 50 minutes on the elliptical! Happy Super Bowl tomorrow everyone!
-
Kari- thanks for the info about not doing lymph node massages while one is sick. I will remember it. The fridge repair man had to come back the second day, but thankfully, the fridge is working again. All that organic stuff, however that I had in there, turned brown. Still, it is not over with the fridge. Something else needs to be done, so the guy is coming back next week. Hopefully that will be it.
Spring - you are so motivating that even though I had walked home form work, I will still do some yoga tonight. Off I go....later Ladies...
-
Did kundalini yoga. It was not easy. But feels like my back ache is gone. Yay!
Anybody else did any moving around?
-
Hi, I had a couple of "down" days but I hit the treadmill today. I did a 30 minute jog on the treadmill and 15 minutes of hand weights. I will drag myself to the gym tomorrow for the elliptical. I am really looking forward to getting outside one day. Hurry up Spring!
Rads on Monday and Tuesday and then I am done!! -
Yeah Cath on just two more days of Rads. I got balloons on my last treatment day from the nurses.
My lawyer met with the ex's lawyer and the "bulldog" lost it. He called and appologized. The meeting was at 9:30 and she didn't show up till 11:45. She pushes my lawyers buttons and he let his personal fellings take over. We are now going to go into mediation over this mess. My ex is stating that the house is his and only his. Excuse me - my name is still showing up on taxes and on my credit report! So now for the next step. I'm getting very tired of this and can't wait till it is over but not backing off for anything.
Raining this morning so I am going to church and then walk the dog when I get back. Working nights and hoping to be able to see the Super Bowl game tonight.
Spring my lawyer has mentioned to use Peppermint oil in the nostrils to help you breathe. My friend used a q tip and/or her finger to place the oil. I still like Vicks on the feet too. Knock on wood - I haven't come down with the crud yet. It is being passed around the office. Keep moving everyone. I have been doing the Wii and walking every day. My roommates have moved out so I am be myself again and I can do more stuff. This trailer is not big enough for 3 adults!!
-
YAY for Cath for being almost done with rads!!! How's your skin holding up?
Boo for your lawyer, Joy. I'm so sorry this is continuing to be strung out for you, but I'm behind you 100% that you must stand up for your rights. I hope you get to go to the mediation hearing. And glad you have your house to yourself again. I'm sure that feels like a wonderful luxury right now.
Kari, I'm also curious why we shouldn't do massage if we're sick. I was just getting over that cold/flu thing when I learned about and tried the neck node massage, and it not only helped my LE, it noticeably cleared my stuffy head instantly. Maybe it puts too much stress on our remaining nodes???
Yesterday was my 4 year cancerversary, but I'm celebrating it today, since yesterday was tied up with family things, and I really like to have this special day to myself to think about life and focus on being thankful. So I started out with a long walk, and am now on my way to a hair app't. Deanna
-
Cath, one more day of RADS!! WOOHOO!!!! So freeing. Hope your skin is holding up. Hope you get nice weather soon and get outdoors.
Joy, everything Deanna said!!! I agree!!!
During my divorce, we ended up in mediation and the mediator saw right through his antics. Stay strong sista! Hope you got to watch the Super Bowl. I had been wanting chocolate chip cookies, so bought some good Sharfenberger Bittersweet chocolate and toasted the walnuts, and made some delicious cookies, I got the recipe online from a pastry chef in San Francisco. YUMMY!
I took some awesome long walks this weekend, it was beautiful outside. Today at lunch I walked out on the trail, so glad I did that!
I will ask my LE gal tomorrow about the MLD stuff when sick.
Deanna, Happy Cancerversary sista!! Certainly a wonderful occasion to celebrate - LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! by the way, hope your hair appt. went well too!
Survivor, hope you didn't lose too much food and the fridge behaves! hugs
-
45 on the elliptical.
Joy, yes I'm with you 100%, I am sure it is very tiersome but you must stick with it and don't be worn down. Too much of your future depends on this....
Deanna, Congratulations on 4 years! I will be 4 years in July. I think Kari and I are like twins!
Cdairth, WOOOOOOOOOO!!! When I finished rads I was stupidly happy for 6-8 weeks, just full of joy to be alive and DONE. I hope you can find the joy!!!
Survivor....keep moving!!!
-
I rode my bike for about 40 minutes and did restorative/gentle yoga yesterday. Tonight, I did bhakti yoga again. I came home happy and tired. Then my H arrived home too and proceeded to fry a brazzini fish. We had an argument about his eating habits. That is, I like things baked and steamed and he wants everything fried. Though, I must admit the fish tastes good. Anyway, tomorrow I get more veggies and I will make up for this mishap. So much for doing all this yoga.
Deanna - Congratulations on your 4th anniversary! Keep looking forward! And enjoy life to the fullest! ``Live well, laugh often, love much!``
Joy- stay strong. Spring is right.... that house is worth the fight. I would fight, but sadly, my H and I have no house to fight about.
Kari- the fridge is working, thank you, though, the guy must come back again this week to bring me a new crisper cover that is broken.
Cath - Remember to treat yourself to something good tomorrow when you are done with rads. You deserve it! And congrats to you!
Spring - You continuously inspire me to keep moving. Thank you for encouraging me/us!
-
After a super day, I hit the gym for an hour with DH tonight and did a combination of treadmill and weights.
Happy last day of rads tomorrow, Cath! As survivor said, I hope you will do something special to celebrate!
I can appreciate your fish story, survivor. Sometimes it's hard to do what we know is best for us when we have to take other people into consideration. I often think of the colorful macrobiotic plate you posted a photo of on FB not too long ago, and I'm disappointed when my meals don't measure up to it, when I know I should always eat like that.
Spring, Kari, and everyone ~ This Motivation group is absolutely one of the most positive things in my life! The constant support has really helped me strengthen and tone my body, which, in turn, is helping me to live bold -- something I want to be sure I'm doing and thought a lot about today. So, thank you, ladies, for being not just friends and inspirations, but for having real fortitude, and for reaching and pushing ourselves and each other. Deanna
-
Yea Deanna on the 4 years. Mine is in August. Trying to get things together for a rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding in April. Going up there on the 19th to see the girls play basketball and then I will go up during the week for the next few times so I can talk and get things going and then spend more time with the girls. Up and back is not enough time to spoil kids.
Going to do (try) Zumba at home. At least I can only make a fool of myself in front of the dog and she won't talk. Have to get in shape for the wedding. My main project at this time. Keep moving.
-
Hi All! Deanna, thank you for the inspirational "talk" at the end of your post. I feel the SAME about all of you on this thread. I think of all of you and it pushes me to thrive.
I saw my LE therapist today for a re-check. The swelling is now only at the base of the index finger, she said it needs compression in that area. She said all my measurements are down and I'm doing a fantastic job. I pick up my sleeve/glove at my fitting appt. in 2.5 hours and then see the LE therapist on 2/21 for another re-check. I asked her about the MLD while having a cold/flu. She said DO NOT stimulate the lymph system while sick, it will make your sickness worse and spread faster. Also if you have an infection, you cannot do MLD until you've been on antibiotics for 3 days and another reminder to wear compression day garments only during the day. She's having me wear this edema glove she gave me, at night until the last bit of swelling is down.
Don't think I reported that last week while at my DD's house after babysitting, we did her Wii system, a dance CD, where we both danced/exercised to the songs/person on the TV, we were sweating!!! It was so fun. That must be what you have Joy? I want one!!
Didn't go to Yoga last night, I was so exhausted. Did some yoga stretches on my own and was asleep early.
-
Does walking home from work in high heels for 35 minutes with groceries counts as exercise? Please say yes. I cannot do any more tonight. My knees and feet hurt. But will do tomorrow. I did 90 minutes bhakti yoga last night and intend to take my butt to the gym as soon as or after the fridge guy comes again tomorrow. Did I tell you? ..........our fridge is broken again. Grrrr!
Hope everyone is well. Keep on moving!
-
Survivor. YES. High Heels!!! Woman! you deserve a medal! A night of rest is a good thing. Sometimes you just need it. Sometimes I push through it anyway, and most times I feel better when done. But some nights, well, I just go to bed! ha!
I did 90 yoga and it was good. Last week I did some of the Yoga inversions and I had to wear my under armour tops for a few days to deal with the LE in the breast/side of chest area. So tonight did a little less. It just feels so good when the icky feel of the LE subsides. I didn't want to risk it. I hope I did "less" enough. ha.
Some woman on another thread says there is Zumba for Wii! Does anybody have this? I would like to try it out!! But I'd love ot hear a reaport...
MMMM. I am liking the sound of that fried fish! I made a big pot of bean, lentil Barley soup at lunchtime and left it on low and forgot about it! I remembered when driving home from Yoga! Luckily, it was fine. Phew. Dodged that one!
I love you girls, you're all the best!
-
Hi!! Saw this thread and thought I would drop in! I just finished the first day of Level 2 of my "30 Day Shred" video from Jillian Michaels.
Level 1 wasn't too bad........am pretty sweaty and shaky after level 2!!! Woohoo!! 9 more days of this and then onto #3!! I am SCARED!!! LOL
Hugs and love to all
edited to add the word "Day".....so it didn't read "30 Shred"
-
Carrying groceries for 35 mins. sounds like a pretty good workout w/ or w/o heels, survivor!
Welcome, Druanne. You must have been in excellent shape prior to bc to be doing a Jillian Michaels workout 6 or 7 weeks post-surgery. Good for you! And love your Oncotype Score! No doubt you were thrilled to see that!
YaY for getting in shape for your son's wedding, Joy! Zumba @ home (w/the dog watching, LOL) sounds like a plan!
Went to the gym last night. 1/2 hr. (5 miles) on a bike, then mostly leg exercises. My trainer suggested alternating upper & lower body routines, and doing each no more than 2x week -- so just 4 days in all. That hardly seems like enough to me, but I'm going to try to get on his recommended schedule and see if I can build up more reps that way. I'm still kind of wimpy when it comes to that. Deanna
-
Druanne - Welcome to our thread ! You go girl! Being sweaty is great. Get rid of those toxins! Go for level #3! Keep going...
There is a song I heard yesterday and the lyrics go something like this:
".....Come on and move your body
Your body and your soul
So you can hear the dj
He takes you in control
So step into this beat now
That beat that makes you move
The movement gives you power
The power to the groove...."Yeah!
-
This site was recommended to me by a poster who replied to one of my meltdown threads. Good news about exercising! I am convinced and am going to gym tonight and will get my membership!!

Hi CK - Great to have you ! Welcome to our thread! Thank you for the article. It is very interesting.
I hope you will find our thread to be motivating so that you keep moving. Are you still in treatment? Even if you have a sitting job it is wise to get up once every hour and walk around. Kari- do you still use the 3rd floor bathroom at work?
A side note to Ckgray: you are allowed to have melt-downs. Don't beat yourself up over having a bad day. We all have those days. Only that after an hour tell yourself : "Enough....now I am doing something good for myself, like going for a walk and getting a green drink from the health food store."
-
Druanne, hope you hang around. I have been bored with my routines lately, so I went out and bought the Jillian Michaels DVDs you mentioned. Thanks.
Thanks to everyone who wished me well with the end of my rads. The skin is raw and red but the whole silly mess is over.
Yes, meltdowns come witht the territory. I embrace them now as part of my "healing process."
On another note, did everyone see Michelle Obama on Jimmy Fallon promoting fitness? Very funny stuff.
-
Survivor, no wonder your knees/feet hurt after walking 35 min in heels with grocerie! You're wonder woman!! You always make me smile, you an inspiring to me!! hugs
Druanne, your avatar is beautiful! You GO GIRL, doing that shred workout!!
Deanna, listen to your trainer, my DD is training for a half marathon and they do strength after their runs only 2 times per week, everything is 30 seconds, like squats/modified push ups, plank on your elbow, leg lifts. She is already so much stronger and do a lot more reps now after 4 weeks!!
ckgrayoh, our DX are similar, you are doing GREAT! Glad you were recommended to check out this thread, this has been a treasure to me for years now!! The ladies here are very dear to me. Hope you post here regularly. Hope you get to the gym tonight! I would like to join a particular gym but I have to pay off one more bill first, then I seriously want to join, for me!!
Spring, good for you for going and doing what you love. Its all about compromise and my LE therapist told to never feel guilt over getting LE...she said some really good stuff the other day.
I babysat last night. I put Glee on and Savannah and I danced to every song. She knows now when the musi comes on she looks at me and I say "come on let's dance" and she lifts her arms up in the air and we boogie down. She sings along in her little baby voice, its SOOO darn cute. I babysit again tonight, can't wait to dance again. I hold her also and do squats to get in my weight bearing exercise.
Survivor, I didn't take the stairs yesterday, the shoes I wore were hurting my feet. I try and go up at least twice a day, and take 2 stairs at a time (squats), my legs get really sore!!
-
Hello everyone!!!
Deanna: Yes I am in pretty good shape.....I try to do some kind of exercise everyday and in the warm months I rollerblade at work after lunch everyday!!
Level #2 of this video though is KILLER! LOL....I was pretty skeptical about my Oncotype score and was sure it was a mistake! Sounds like you have a decent exercise regimen started!
Thanks for the warm welcome Survivorwoman!!! Love the lyrics! Let me see you MOVE in those heels!!!!!......
That is AWESOME!
cdairth: Put this thread in my favorites!! I plan on sticking around! That is great that you went out and got the DVD!!.......You will be SHREDDED!!!! I just started Rads (3rd day).....not sure what kind of SEs to expect.....but am going to try to continue exercising through the entire treatment!! SO far I am liking level #2!!! I started level #1 using 3lb weights.......but found I needed to use 5lbs to make it HURT MORE!!
Already feel small changes and toning!
Go for it! WOOHOO!
kfinnigan: Thank you!! That picture was taken after my biopsy but before my results....was on Thanksgiving Day.....I was trying to just have fun with my daughter and not think about if I had breast cancer or not!......WOW.........here I am 3 months later!!! Feeling good!
Just starting rads!
-
kfinnigan: Forgot to mention how wonderful your babysitting experience sounded
On Thanksgiving day after turkey..........my daughter and I went into the basement for our 1st annual TURKEY DANCE-A-THON!!! (she's 21 however)
We danced and worked off that turkey for about 3 1/2 hours!!!
-
Hi all! 90 yoga last night and tonight I am feeling so tired and lazy! I came here to get motivated. Ok so now I will get up and get my work out clothes on and do 45 on the elliptical. I really don't feel like it but I know I'll feel better afterwards!
-
Okay I did it!!! 45 on elliptical. As predicted, I feel better. Finally warmed up!!
Keep moving!
