5 years post radiation rib discomfort

Options

It is 5 years since my lumpectomy and radiation...did not have chemo. I have had discomfort under my arm for about 2 weeks. The sugeon does not see anything and thinks its related to my rib(s). I am to use advil and ice and see him if it doesnt resolve in 4 weeks. I would then have ultrasound and mamo.  Also, when I get in and out of bed it seems my schest wall or ribs there 'shift'.  Looking to see if anyone else has experienced either of these.  Seems strange to me cause its been 5 years but maybe related to radiation exposure? Appreciate any information or direction. thanks

I'm glad you went back to your surgeon. I would follow the advise there. Have not experienced this.

I'm almost 7 years post radiation, and I've also had ribs "shifting." About 3 years ago my top rib under the radiation site actually broke. Recently my GP diagonosed me with condochondritis - which is the connecting tissue of the ribs to the sternum inflamed. It felt like my rib was coming unhinged just below my bra. Only treatment is to try not to move the area. No heavy lifting or excersizing with weights, etc.

It is better with comparitive inactivity. I was doing a lot of yoga - downward dog and push up type movements.

Talk to you radiologist before you do anything. That is one thing mine STRESSED when I was done with radiation...come to him first with any issues, NOT a surgeon. He apparently has seen a number of persons go through unnecessary tests and procedures because they did.
