More Tips (and a Shopping List) for Getting Through Chemo

I hope I'm not repeating, but my husband gave me a Kindle and it's been my best friend. I can escape during chemo, waiting for appointments, etc. No carrying heavy books. And always a shawl or wrap to snuggle up in... It may sound awful, but as long as I'm able to drive, I've declined anyone's offer to accompany me to chemo. I'm quite content with reading or dozing off. This may change as I get further into the cycles.

Jenlee ~ The group of gals who are starting chemo in Jan 2012 are a very supportive group. It helps so much to join a group and share experiences as you travel on this journey. Wishing you the best!

Hello,
I have read this list and found that many of the products manufacturers have savings coupons on their respective web sites. Colace-save $2, biotene-save $1, aleve-save $2. The OTC helpers can really add up. I hope this helps. I've printed my coupons and will include these products in my chemo bag. My first treatment is today...AC. Wish me luck. -
NCbeachgal ~ THANKS for the coupon info! You are so right, it adds up and every little bit helps. The best to you on your journey,

Thank you Nico... I love to save money or at least take full advantage of the company's offers. I work in the pharmaceutical industry and the manufacturers really do want consumers to use whatever savings program offered. I google the RX meds as well. Copay saving card or free pill vouchers can help to be sure the medicine is tolerable without breaking the bank. Many copay savings programs represent monthly savings. The savings cards typically arent offered with generic drugs though. I hope you are well!

One of the things that helped my dry mouth during chemo was Biotene Gum. It's not easy to find, although WalMart now carries it and sometimes Walgreens. It stimulates saliva production and it's very soothing to the mouth. The other thing that helped was anything "lemony". Lemon drops, lemon water, etc. For cracking at the corners of my mouth I used Vaseline which helped tremendously.
