Okay, so here's the deal for me today.  It's Super Bowl Sunday and all "dieting" bets are pretty much off!  I'm making my special sausage bread appetizer to take over to my BIL's and I'm sure there will be some other goodies that I probably won't be able to turn down.

I'm going to try to walk again today but I "ain't" promising nuttin'. ;-)

Jaytee -my hand is in the air!  We have a lovely exercise bike that makes a wonderful decorative statement in our spare bedroom.  Obviously it's just for decoration because I don't ride it. LOL!

Lovemyfam -Oh how I wish I could put on the levis I have!!!  From only a year or so before breast cancer, size 10 ... Grrrr!  Congrats on getting into yours!

    Welcome Mikita5 & chiefwife

Awww, "KinderKathy" you were thinking about me when you were doing you were working in your yard!  That's so cool!

If I missed calling out to someone it wasn't because I didn't read your post ... I really suck at keeping up with what everbody has said when I'm posting.

Keep up the good work ladies!

Oh & speaking of spring & yard work, I wanted to share some pics with you guys that I posted on another thread.

Of course, this last one has nothing to do with spring or yard work, just a sunset pic from my backyard.  I love the way the clouds look.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

P.S. I really hope you guys won't quit talking to me when you find out from my other posts that I'm a "heathen".

Welcome Chiefwife & mikita5!  I am enjoying this thread so much already.  I have used the treadmill 3 days in a row now.  My motivation today to get back on the treadmill was so I could eat some chicken wings during the game later. LOL...I started using My Fitness Pal, it's a free app I downloaded to my phone & computer.  You figure how much weight you want to loose and it tells you how many calories you need to eat each day.  It calculates calories for all your food & snacks for meals. You can even scan your foods and it tells you what a serving is, nutritional info and you can even make your own recipes. I find by knowing what a serving is I can eat what I like but in the proper amount.  I did it in the fall and it was working, I had lost 5 lbs. But.... I had a surery in Nov. & then the holidays and then my exchange surgery in Jan....so you know I gained it all back :-(    But with the support & encouragment of these lovely ladies I feel very motivated again.  Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

tenaj ... That app sounds very cool.  I'm probably one of the last people on Earth that doesn't have a Smart Phone but I might check it out for my computer.  Good job doing the treadmill today to balance the wings later!  Try not to be too hard on yourself for gaining the weight back that you lost in the fall.  You DID have to recover from surgery and it takes a lot to get though it all.

mikita5 ... The trees are Bradford pears (ornamental fruit only).  Although they are  prone to a lot of problems with branches and trunks splitting and don't usually live very long they sure are beautiful in the spring.  I think almost every yard in my neighborhood has at least one.    Oh my, don't let me start talking about plants or you may never get me to shut-up! LOL!

Hi everyone, OMG those are beautiful pictures! I so enjoyed seeing them. I too will forget probably everyone all the time so just bear with me, sometimes I think I have reading comprehension skills. Either that or I'm not too observent, and I don't think I spell all that great. But I try.

I joined MyFitnessPal about a year ago but I just couldn't get into tracking what I ate, and I can't stand drinking water. uuhgghh I have to force it down.

Did any of you get extrememly dry skin from doing chemo, my skin is like a reptile, lizard like. I use lotions, oils, you name it I've tried it and nothing has brought back my once normal skin.

I have a dreadmill, I get on it about 5 days a week, usually walk for about 49 minutes than boredom gets the best of me and I get off. I even watch tv while using it but it doesn't help.

So for yjose of us that did chemo, how is your hair? I've had 3 haircuts all ready, I just wish it would thicken up,

Have fun eating all the good food today!

O.k. Football season is over, back to eating healthy food again, before March Madness starts!!! I have started eating at least one apple for breakfast and one for lunch. The apple fills me up and I am not snacking in between meals. For me that is huge, because I am a snacker!!!!! My goal is to lose two sizes before my son's wedding in May. You are all my motivation and inspiration!!!! Thank you, Kathy

We had a deep dish pizza that we made and watched the game last night... It was delicious and I had more than I should have.... OK... Way more than I should have....lol

Oh well... Today it's back to moderation! I seem to have come down with a cold and was going to use it as an excuse to not do the treadmill......The old me sure would! But, I'm going to give it a try... Might not be at the same intensity but, something is better than nothing, right?

    Have a great day, ladies!

    Good morning!

It was a fun night & a great game.  I think the commercials were very disappointing and didn't care for the half time show much at all.  I must confess that I overindulged in both food & beverages and I sure feel it this morning.

Now it's time to jump back into the good habits.

I'm heading to the shower to try and get me going for the day.  I have bills to pay, tax documents to organize, & medical receipts to submit.  It was raining a little earlier but it should clear up by lunch time and I'll be going for my two mile walk.

Hey, quick question for you all.  I bought some nice walking shoes when I started going to the wellness center.  They are still relatively new but I'm really having a lot of pain in my heels.  Has anyone tried any of those gel inserts/insoles?  Any recommendations?  I really can't afford another pair of shoes right now.

Oh and I'm glad you guys like the pics!

    Good day ladies,

Well my legs were a bit sore so I skipped the treadmill today, but I did keep busy around the house so I guess that counts for something. Making healthier choices today cause those wings & chips were just too good! Plantlover, my DH has used the gel inserts with good results. BTW, those pictures are beautiful. I can't wait for spring. I love my flowers & vegetable garden. Heathen smeathen.... Who cares. To each his own :-)

Have a wonderful day ladies, keep making those good choices !!!

    Hi everyone!

I didn't get a chance to pop in yesterday.  My superbowl splurge was taco dip with pita chips. Oh I looked forward to that all day. Had a double helping of corn casserole at dinner too.  Gotta have a splurge every once in awhile.  Each day is a new one and today it was get back up on the horse and keep going forward.

oh, chiefswife----'dreadmill'-----------I'm still giggling about that.

Plantlover---the pictures are giving me spring fever.  We have a ways to go up here before the trees bloom but now I can't wait!     Anybody who loves plants is okay in my book!!!   Gonna say it again---thanks for starting this thread---its given me a jumpstart like I havent had in ages.

Now-----drumroll please--------I got a different  pair of pants zipped up today!!!!     I did have to lay down on the bed to zip them up but the week before last I could not even get them buttoned.   This is better than a paczski!!

Can't stay too long today----had to get a port flush and labs drawn this morning, then some errands, did my 2 miles and now I've got to attack some things around the house cause I know my husband is gonna ask me what I did today!

Keep up the good work everyone----have a lovely Monday!

    PlantLover,

I forgot to mention in my last post how beautiful those photos are! And I wouldn't mind at all if we talked about gardening and plants!! We had planned to put in our very first vegetable garden in 2009 and then, life got in the way when I was diagnosed in May... No garden that year....

Come 2010 we made it happen... Not a huge space. Just 4x16... Using the Square Foot Garden method! Had some really great and not great results but, it's my therapy and I'm learning as I go!

Chiefswife, Don't know how I missed the 'dreadmill' comment but, I did... I'm definitely adopting that term.... too funny!

    Jaytee,

Congrats on the jean zip-up!! Doesn't matter how you did it... As long as you could breathe after and didn't pass out, It counts!!!

    PlantLover,

Also forgot to mention.... Wow, tht seems to be my theme tonight... forgetful!

My son plays hockey and as part of their training they are required to run during some practices. He kept complaining of knee pain when running... Took him to an Orthopedist who said, the problem was not in his knees but, due to the fact that he was very flat footed. Who knew?

Sent us to the podiatrist who recommended orthotics for his shoes which were $600 and would not be covered by insurance. At the time he was still growing by leaps and bounds and would likely outgrow them in just a few months. We declined!

The podiatrist then suggested to Dr Scholl's inserts and they did seem to help...

Hi I all so gained weight after treatment for I was too tired to walk even when I wasn,t receiving it and I was on tamoxifen for 5 yrs and gained even more but after all treatment was complete and I gave myself time to get back to some type of normalcy(a yr or so) and I stared walking 2 days a week and then 3 then 4 and I saw the weight just drop off and I was eating some of everything, after I lost the weight I wanted I went down to 3 and try to do at least that, the holidays mess me up and on cold or snow days I can,t walk but as soon as I can I go back to my routine, U don,t need a gym WALKING will do it.  God Bless. msphil

Kinder - I appreciate your concern about the term sounding icky but I'm sorry, I'm really not seeking.   While it may sound better, it would be a lie.  I did use the term, a bit tongue in cheek, just to warn you guys that my beliefs may differ from yours & that you might easily find that out if you saw some of my other posts.  I guess I just wanted to it out there and hoped you wouldn't want to stop talking with me because of it.  Thanks for the understanding!! Anyway, 'nuff about that.  Probably more than enough, huh? *wink*

tenaj ... You'll get back on track, or ummm... the "dreadmill" tomorrow.  Sounds like we had similar days today.

Jaytee ... Woot!  Congrats on getting the pants zipped!

Seaside ...  If you want to increase your garden size with a really cool & easy method you might want to try lasagna gardening.   I started using the method a couple of years ago and it works great.  I've added several large planting beds in my yard very quickly this way.

Hi msphil!  Thanks for reminding us that we can skip the gym but still exercise.

Okay ... I confess, I did a terrible job with exercise today.  I didn't go for my walk but instead started cleaning, got carried away and spent the better part of the day doing laundry, stripping beds, etc ...

So, here's my commitment for tomorrow ....  I have to be at a placement agency for an interview at 10:30 so I'm going to walk early in the morning before I shower.  You guys hold me to it and give me crap if I don't.

Hey, Plantlover! I totally understand and respect you. This thread is great and I am grateful that you started it and that's we are all here to help each other be the best we can be!!!! Msphil, I love to walk and you are so right, we don' t have to go to a gym to exercise. Dr. Oz says a 30 minute walk a day may keep the doctor away. Seaside, I wish we could have a garden, they are wonderful and provide good exercise tending them!!!! Have a great night!!!! Kathy

Is it too late to join the team??

I have so much weight to lose I don't even want to think about it.  But eating makes me happy when I feel sad!!!!   I try to be healthy and limit myself with my treats but that only lasts so long.

So if you don't mind me tagging along that would be great.

OMG...Check your shampoo bottle label.  I don't know wy I didn't figure this out sooner!!

When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body and (duh!) printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning:

    FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY!

No wonder I have been gaining weight! Well I have gotton rid of that shampoo and I am to start using Dawn Dish soap instead.  Their label reads, DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE.

    Problem solved.

    Edit for spelling

Hello everyone is it to late for me to join your group too? I am at the heaviest I have ever been and I really don't like it.  I was exercising everyday about three or four months ago.  But that all ended when I had a compression fracture on my L1.  I had cement injected into it to build it back up.  the cancer in it had really weakened it.  Anyways I would really like to get back into shape, and this really seems like a fun group.

Morning all---------wow, looks like I have some catching up to do.

Welcome vivvygirl, janice and Kburdic and Vikki-----I know we would all love you to join us

vivvy, I've got real problems------- cause I have been RINSING AND REPEATING!!!   Its so nice to start the day with a smile!

Sounds like some of us had a 'Monday' yesterday.  No matter.  Brand new day, I'm getting out my pom poms and cheering you all on today!!

How long does it take to change a bad habit or begin a good one, 2 weeks, a month?  I forget.  I think that I have always given up right before the breakthrough.  A few times last week when I got to the track I just had to take a big breath and determine to do that walk but it always felt so good when I was done. Yesterday I was really looking forward to it.  I had good timing yesterday too, someone showed up at the track while I was there and I recognized them from coming into the place where I work.  Ended up having a nice conversation and  getting those last 2 lanes done went so fast.  I think I need a walking buddy.

Thanks so much for the congrats on the pants yesterday!  I was definitely doing a little happy dance!

Am going to stay close to home today.  Do my walk in the neighborhood---hopefully Cujo wont be too riled up today, oh yes, I have named that menacing dog.   It does speed up my pace everytime I walk past that house!    I've got to do the housecleaning thing today, Plantlover.  I didnt really get much done yesterday, just rearranged some clutter.   I need a visit from the housecleaning fairy!    When I was a kid, my sisters and I would sometimes tackle a big job for mom just to surprise her.  I know I have told my kids about that but so far they just havent gotten the hint.   Its not a really terrrible mess, I just have areas of what I call 'messy buildup'.  Maybe I can tackle just a couple of those.

I'm going to freeze some grapes---they make a nice snack and take a little while to eat.  Do you all have any favorite lo cal snack ideas to share. ------- I've got to keep some things on hand for when I just want to rummage through the fridge and the cupboards.

kindergarten, do you have room to grow anything in containers.? We've grown spinach and lettuce in containers on the deck to keep them away from bunnies, and husband has been experimenting with earth boxes, we have grown some of the best peppers using those, they produced better than the ones we grow in the good old ohio clay.  I like to grow the red and orange sweet peppers---they cost so much at the grocery store!

Have a good one everybody----you are all in my thoughts today
