Pk0199-Glad to meet you, I too had a mild tx course (bilat with expanders/perm implants) but I would rather focus on the positive. I do get angry and bitter when I hear of another wonderful woman who dies from BC but then I go back to positive and trying to find a cure. I have lost 3 wonderful women that I was close to from my local support group since my dx and several more are stage 4 and fighting a good fight. Our local group likes to have fun things at the meetings, not just statistics. This year for the Komen luncheon, our county was responsible to organize and plan the luncheon with the entertainment. We designed bras (art project) and made them personal. we then had a local dance team model the bras (with shirts on underneath) in a 'glitz and glamour' fashion show for the show and it was a hit.

Just a quick hi to all, can't stay long as the sun has just popped out and I now can''t see the computer monitor! Not a complaint though, going to go out and enjoy the sun while it lasts. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

I love this time of year. It's cool and crisp out. Leaves falling. I just love it and I appreciate that I am here to take it all in!

Hi everyone. I just wanted to say thanks to all who participated in any way to raise $$ for breast cancer. You guys rock. In May, here in Minnesota ,we have the mothers day walk. I am walking this coming year. I can not believe its been almost 1 year since I heard them awful words, "Marlene, I'm sorry but you have breast cancer." Now as I approach my 1 year, I get very excited and a bit scared too. When my scared feeling surface I just think about my oncologist telling me i ,after surgery, chemo, rads and tamoxifen etc, have 94% chance to remain cancer free. Pretty good odds huh! Life is great and so are all you guys!

I haven't been here for such a long time...I first started thisl thread February 11, 2007 and ironically here it is, February 10, 2010 and I have managed to stay positive even after being diagnosed with brain cancer a few days ago. I think my positive attitude comes from KNOWING that there is life after life and that we all have to face our physical demise--history has shown us that "people die!" LOL "History is full of dead people!" It just seems harder when we have a clock running on it!

Lori
It amazing that this thread is still going after all this time!!!! There have been many changes to BC.org over that time frame....
You are so very right about being able to be positive....If I look at the alternative I find that positive is the way I want to be the rest of my days here. Unfortunely you are also correct in the statement you made about each of us having to face our physical demise....
If there is anything I can do please let me know...Im always around for a shoulder if you need.
Hugs

Lori,
I am sorry to hear about your newest diagnosis. Being positive is the way to go, not that it heals you but you can deal with whatever is thrown your way.

After my diagnoses I made an effort to stay around positive people. I was already experiencing fear and praying against these emotions, Lord knows I need to be inspired. Plus I love inspiring people, so those who looked at me as doomed or showed it, I ran from.
-
I just joined this thread and you are a breath of fresh air to me. Yes we all have an assigned day and time it written in the good book. God Bless You. Recuperating from a BMX with Reconstruction and just read cancer can sometimes come back. Fear gripped me, but then I said Lord let me take it one day at a time.
-
Morning gals! I was wondering if I am too old to join this thread! Or does it even matter?
At least I'm positive, Ha! I've been posting on the "Older women thread" but I've looked around for a thread that fits me a little more....I mean I am thankful for being "done" with cancer, & want to be around women that look forward to another day, & can find joy in life!I only had a lumpectomy just one year ago, with radiation from the MammoSite device, & now taking Tamoxifen, & I feel great! Glad to "listen" to you gals with hope & happiness!
-
Hi Chevyboy and welcome. I too love this thread.
-
Just found this thread after all this time! How nice to hear from positive gals! I feel I've always been positive also - even through the fatigue I had after my first mastectomy in Feb. 2009. God is able, He's in control, and I needed to adjust my attitude to accept His Will, especially in November when I had my second mastec. Once I could do that, I could move forward, one step at a time, with His help. Let's all stay positive!
-
Hi, I've been hangin around the BCO site since April 2011, and just today, came across this thread. It's great! There is so much fear when dealing with BC, It's good to focus on the positive. I'm tired of complaining, I want to live a thankful and grateful life. (Though I'm all for a good vent once in a while. *grin*)
2hands - your verse Phil. 4:13 is encouraging. Thank you!
Today I'm thankful to be alive! Thankfull they got all the BC with the Bilateral mastectomy. And I'm thanking God ahead of time for the right help at the right time in getting my implants out in the near future. I don't have to work today, but have I mentioned I'm thankful for a job!! As I count my blessings it could go on and on! Is my life perfect. Hardly. ha! But there is still so much to be thankful for!
Thank you to the person who started this thread years ago. What a wonderful place to come and find uplifting encouragement.

Wow, I just found this thread. I am an eternal optimist.
I was in the hospital for 6 nights for my BMX and reconstruction even though I had 2 hematomas. I never needed anything but over-the-counter pain killers after surgery.
Chemo was hard because I wanted to do so much and I had to rest instead. But I still cooked meals most days and got out of bed and showered.
My oncologist keeps telling me not to do things (mostly working) and I do what I want to anyway and haven't suffered terribly.
3 weeks post final chemo although I have some niggly side effects, I am thinking "fast forward" in my head and seem to be forgetting my cancer experience.
I am enjoying my life to it's absolute limit (whatever that is) and I intend to do all the things I've always wanted to do. I'm realising some old dreams in this beautiful life of mine.
Staying positive lessens the pain and raises the spirit.

Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Funny, I like the color pink a lot less than I used to.
My new favorite is turquoise. And I dream of sitting by a turquoise ocean with the breeze blowing in my hair.

Wow, no one has posted here in over a month, but what a great thread. I love having a positive thread. I've done really well with my surgeries. But now I'm about to start the hard stuff with 1st chemo tx coming up in 9 days - Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin. I'm hoping I can get through this as well as the surgeries but I've been reading a lot of threads with the side effects from treatments. I can really use a positive thread right now. Hope some of you ladies still check in here.
-
Maybe this board is where I need to be. I have not posted as after my chemo/surgery/rads I was really trying to get on the postive track. I became a lurker as when I posted anything positive I was met with silence. You could almost hear crickets.
-
Hey libraylil
No crickets here. We have to stay positive. I have been in a positive way since DX. Am I mentally deficient. No I don't think so. There is no need to add to the negative energy this trip can bring.
You seem to have done all you can according to your dr's and came out smelling like a rose. What is your next approach? Mine is diet excersize and etc....................I'm sttill trying to quit smoking. Bad Girl.
BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY...........................maureen
-
Hi chef, like you diet and exercise. I have lost 31 lbs, gone from a 16 to a 12. Gone from brunette to blonde. Oh well I won t lie from gray to blonde. Bought me a pair of azz (cancer) kicking western boots. Went from a slug couch potato to exercising 3-4 times a week. MO says he believes diet/exercise are good moves. Also suggested vitamin d.
-
Yay, activity on the positive thread. Welcome!
-
Hi Judy, see that you are also having TCH. Completed The same chemo cocktail November 2010 and herceptin October 2011.
-
I just found this thread. Yay! I seem to have the same problem as you libraylil, any time I try to put a positive spin on anything I am also met with silence.
I have found that hitting things head on with a positive attitude and a sense of humor makes it easier to swallow. I have to admit though, this dx isn't the first life altering thing my husband and I have dealt with, and I think that has made it a little easier to confront and do what needs to be done. He was dx'd with MS 12yrs ago. We work with the bad and savor the good in life.
-
Hey libraylil, glad to hear from someone on the other side of it. Can't wait to be done with chemo. On the bright side, I sure am glad they have Herceptin now.
-
Hi librylil, Judy, chef, and twozzs.
I found this thread 5 years ago when I was going through chemo and radiation. It sure helped me to get through it all. It helped that most of my friends were positive about things, too. Only my mil treated me as if I was dying. I met some terrific ladies here, on my radiation thread. and on my Chemo Thread, and I met several of them in person.
I still remember one humorous thread about "Big Girl Panties." I had to tune in everyday to see what people had posted.
I don't post as much as I did, but I keep this topic on my email notification. So ladies keep your positive attitudes and get through your treatments. It's worth it now that I'm 5 years out from it all, and the bad stuff has been forgotten.
-
Thanks Dkmaustx - I can't wait to get this tx over with. Look forward to life after chemo and medical bills. Nice to hear from people on the other side of it and see that life does go back to some sort of normal. That's funny about the Big Girl Panties thread. When I was dx my Gyn told me I would just have to "put on my big girl panties and get through it and I would come out stronger on the other side."

Hello, ladies! May I join this club? I was diagnosed with IDC in December and so far things have been "easy" (as easy as possible with a BC diagnosis!) One aunt to whom I'm really close (she's actually my age) told another aunt (much older) how well I was doing and yes, the older one said I'm in denial!! I happen to believe that self-pity is a terrible waste of time and energy. Of course, my prognosis is pretty positive so in that regard it may be easier to have a good attitude.
I had a lumpectomy last month and it was a breeze. My sister asked me to stay overnight at her house the first night just in case I had a late reaction to the anesthesia (I appreciated her concern) but I could just as easily have gone home. I'm awating the results of my Oncotype test to see if I'll need chemo. If not, they'll start radiation.
I've always been a fact-based, no-nonsense, let's-get-on-with-it kind of person (military, corrections, computers). Just tell me what I need to do then stand back and let me do it!
-
Hi Snoopsmom, I think a good attitude helps with healing and affects how your body responds. Like you though, I am early stage and that definitely makes it easier to stay positive.
