Root canal?

Options

I was Dx'ed almost a year ago with ADH and am now experiencing some trouble with a tooth that suggests I may need a root canal.  I have found a great deal of information about the possible connection between root canals and BC, but it is difficult to evaluate how much of this falls under the category of reliable scientific research, and how much is perhaps anecdotal or internet claptrap.

Anyone have any evidence one way or the other?  Any research to cite?  I am trying to go beyond the "I had a root canal and then I got BC" kind of comments.  I am concerned that an endodontist will most likely recommend a RC, since this procedure is the basis of their practice.  Are there other alternatives besides pulling the tooth?  Anyone have any experience with so-called holistic dentists?  Are they legitimate?  Thanks!

Have you seen a DDS for your symptoms? Once your pulp is infected there is not much they can do to stop the infection inside the tooth, aside from a root canal.  But if you catch the problem early enough (i.e. maybe the tooth is only sensitive), there's a chance you might only need a filling. If the pulp is infected, unfortunately, the choices are root canal or extraction.

BTW, there have been other discussions on this forum about this (you can find them via the Search topic).  When I investigated it, I had a lot of questions about the science. Weston Price advanced the idea back in the 1920s and it was popular for awhile (i.e. lots of extractions) but then fell out of favor. My understanding is that there were questions about his methologies including unsubstantiated claims.

FWIW, I found this comment from Dr. Andrew Weil, who is known for being open to integrative and alternative medicine.

Anyway, good luck with this. I don't like dealing with DDS problems, so sorry you're going through this. Who knows? Maybe you'll be lucky and will have caught it early. (fingers crossed)

I had only recently heard about the connection with RC and cancer in general... and was wondering the same thing! I am surprised that more people haven't responded..
