Neulasta

Options

I am needing to get some help on the shot Neulasta.

I had my first chemo treatment of Taxotere, Carbo, and Herceptin on Jan 6 2012. I received that shot Neulasta on that following Monday, and I have noticed 3 days after Monday, I had broke out into a rash/hives.

The second chemo session was on Jan 27, 2012, Same chemo meds and Herceptin. I received the shot on the following Monday again, and noticed 3 days later (Thursday) I had a severe migraine the left side of my face, including the eye, cheek, ear and the back of my neck. By Thursday night into Friday, my left eye started to swell and by Friday night I couldn't open my eye and it was watering.

I don't have any problems with my chemo drugs until I get that shot of Neulasta on Mondays. Does this look like a sign that I have allergic to this shot Neulasta, and if there is another shot that can be in place of Neulasta? I don't want to have to experience this serious side effect each time I have this shot. I am at the point that I don't want to take the next shot. Please help

dmorgan41 - I ended up having an allergeric reaction to Neulasta which presented itself as a rash.  Happened like clockwork, 3 days after getting the shot.  Then it would start to clear up after infusion (probably because of steroids). Once we were able to confirm my rash was from the shot, by skipping it one time, my oncologist told me to take Claritin the day of the shot for about a week and that kept the rash under control.

I think there is another shot you can take, but it is one which you have to take multiple days, can't remember the name, something like Neupogen(?).

Definitely talk to your oncologist about this to see what course of action will be best for you so you can finish your treatments.

    Best wishes.
