Stomach Pain

Options

First, a disclaimer... I suffer from cancer induced hypochondria... There, I said it!

Anyway, I've been having a soreness in my stomach that gets worse when I eat or when I sit for a long time.  There is a tightness and a stinging/sharp kind of pain.  It fits with the symptoms for GERD.

I have my quaterly checkup at MDA next week and they are doing a PET scan and bone scan to look for anything suspicious.  I'm scared to death.  All I can think is stomach cancer, esophogeal cancer, liver cancer, Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhggggggggg!

This is so hard.

Help.

Hi Brandy - I love that you have cance induced hypochondria - and I have now met someone like me!! I am in the same boat!

Anyway- I have a similar pain. For me, under left rib cage, seems to hurt more when I eat. The pain goes through to my back.

Another thing they can check is your spleen and pancreatitis.  My doctor said both of those can be issues with symptoms I described. Perhaps for you too. Luckily I have a CT scheduled and it seems you have a PET - you'll have answers soon. Hopefully they are doing a combo PET/CT as they'll be able to better pinpoint any issues.  Please ask if they can do the combo.

Good luck, sending you prayers for strength as you go through this  and hoping for nothing bu acid reflux!!

    Keep us posted!

Brandy, it could be an ulcer.  Have you tried any over the counter meds such as QuickEse or Gaviscon?

Bevin, I do have a pet/ct and bone scan and ultrasound scheduled next week. All in one day, it's going to be rough. But the good news is I'll have my results next day. Thank God for MD Anderson. I'm trying to be optimistic, but sometimes it's damn right impossible. I'll be thinking of you and praying that you have Gerd or an ulcer (wink)

Yes, racy, in my new world I dream of ulcers and not the alternative. But I haven't been clever enough to try and treat with OTC drugs. I'll definitely do that. Thanks for the tip!

I've thought about gallstones. This after-cancer phase is way harder that it looks
