Oh Jaytee!! What an awful sounding day! Just the insurance thing alone would be enough to cause me to cave without all the rest of it thrown in to boot!
You will most likely be surprised at how much money that small amount of damage will be to repair.... I was dropping my son off for his college exams just before Christmas and a lady backed into me in the parking lot! It was a very low impact collision and I might have gotten away with just a bumper scrape if it wasn't for her pesky trailer hitch... Punched a hole in the bumper no big deal but, over $900 to repair. I was shocked!
Hope today goes better!
Welcome aboard lovemyfamilysomuch and tenaj!!
tenaj,
I so hear you that all of a sudden (well it seems like it anyway) it is so easy to gain weight and so hard to take it off.... Couple that with the fact that for the first time in my life it is accumulating around my middle!! Ugggggggg...
lovesmyfamilysomuch,
I want to be down 20 lb by beachtime in August!! I think we've both started early enough to make it to our goals!! -
Today I did my usual 40 minutes on the treadmill followed by 20 minutes or so that it takes me to do my weights routine.... Then scrubbed the shower.... Yep, I'm counting that, too....lol!
Seems as though exercise is contagious.... Looks like my husband and daughter will be joining my son and I in our Lose Weight and Get In Shape Challenge!! Should be interesting!
Best to you all today! -
Jaytee: sorry your having such a bad day. Stress eating is my downfall also, but perhaps we can all help each other.
Seasidememories: great job! You'll be ready for the beach before you know it. I'd love to be down @ least 10 lbs by then, but 20 would be better. :-) -
It's really made me smile to see others join this thread. Thank you!
Jaytee So sorry you had such a crappy day! Why does it seem that sometimes bad things happen in bunches??? Simply not fair! Frozen shoulder, as I was told by my physical therapist, can happen when there is any type of injury that causes one to have difficulty with range of motion. If, over a period of time, the range is never fully recovered than you may develop the condition. Here's a link that explains it better than I can. For me, the recovery from that was longer and worse than anything else that breast cancer treatments have dished out. Not only was it painful when I moved my arm it hurt when my arm was still. It ached ALL night long. I still don't have full range but you better believe I work my arm every single day! It scares the crap out of me to think of having to deal with that much pain again & I'm really not a wimp when it comes to pain.
TenaJ - Yes you can lose 30 lbs and 2 sizes. That's about the same as what I'm shooting for too. We'll do it together!!
Seaside - You've done well today!
I don't normally go into a lot of personal details about family stuff online because I found out a long time ago that it's kinda dangerous to do so. I'd be happy to share with you guys privately, in fact it would probably help so let me know if you want to know what's going on. Anyway, thanks for keeping me in your thoughts.
Now I'm going to try to be good and clear my head with a two mile walk.
Later ladies!!
-
Plantlover: Enjoy your walk. Looking forward to have your support. If there is something privately you would like to talk about I'm a good listener.
-
Today was a better day and as bad as yesterday was, it actually helped me realize some things. I think that I always knew I was emotionally eating but yesterday, I KNEW it. Like the light bulb finally came on!
You all did a great job exercising today---Seaside, all that and a clean shower too!! Still nice weather here so I got my walk in----I'm going to have to add some other form of exercise. Have any of you tried the Zoomba dvds. It kinda looks like fun.
I'm going to make a goal of losing 20-30 lbs too. Its been way too long since I have bought a bathing suit. Would love to take my grandson to the pool this summer.
Plantlover, thank you for the info about frozen shoulder. I definitely dont have the range of motion that I once had. Going to add some shoulder and arm exercises asap.
Keep up the good work everyone and have a wonderful day tomorrow
-
I did the treadmill today for 30 minutes for the first time since I had surgery on my parathyroid gland in November. I got the OK to excersise this week after my exchange and away I go. Hope you all are feeling well and enjoying your day
-
I just love all the posts on this thread!!!! I am such an emotional eater as well, and I find that my weaknesses are carbs and sweets. I am determined to limit them and exercise every day, walking , climbing up stairs, daily and numerous times; bike riding and the elliptical. You are doing great, and the important thing is that you have the desire and you are trying. Good luck to everyone here and thanks again for starting this thread, PlantLover!!!!!! Have a great weekend everyone!!!!! Kathy

Hi all,
I have a little tamoxifen belly too :P
I've just started yoga classes and am loving it. It really helps with the tightness in the chest area
Hoping I can shed a few pounds though I'm not really upset with how I look, however, being as I had no reconstruction after my bi-lateral mastectomy, being svelt is probably best.
We're all in this together!
Vikki

Jaytee and Kindergarten,
I quit smoking a little over 2 years ago and knowing what my triggers were was a huge part of how I was able to quit.... I would think the same would be true for weight loss!!
Haven't tried Zoomba yet but heard it was a really great work out.... I was eying my daughter's Wii Fit an would really like to learn Tai Chi but since I am seeing results with what I am doing right now I'll probably stay the course for now...
tenaj,
Congrats on getting back on the treadmill!! Good Job!
Welcome NJVictoria...
I have a friend who swears by Yoga... she does it every morning and it has helped her to keep off a huge amount of weight that she lost many years ago!
PlantLover.... Hang in there, girl! -
Did my usual treadmill/weights combo!! Weighed myself this morning and, after 4 weeks of seeing results on my body but, not on the scale.... Today.... The scale FINALLY MOVED and for the first time in awhile it was in a downward direction!!! Now granted, it was only half a pound but, I'll take it!! Now just hoping it wasn't just normal weight fluctuation....lol
-
Seaside: congrats, keep up the good work!
Vikki: where are you taking your yoga classes? Let us know how it's going.
I have Wii fit also & it's great for exercising & fun. The yoga I learned from it is great for balance & flexibility.
Enjoy, make healthy choices & have a wonderful weekend!!
Plant lover: how's it going? -
Hello everybody!
Lovemyfamily ... I'm sorry I don't think I "formally" welcomed you. An October wedding should give you plenty of time to work out and feel comfortable in your "Mother of the bride" dress.
NJ Vikki ... I've enjoyed yoga from time to time. My favorite part was the "relaxation" time at the end of class. The instructor would play the most relaxing music and have the lights dimmed. I would nearly fall asleep, lol! Then she'd clink finger symbols together to signal the end of class. The thought crossed my mind to hide her symbols. ;-)
Seaside ... Good deal on seeing the scale move. I hope to see the same but I'm going to do one thing first. I'm going to have to buy one, LOL! I was using one at the wellness center but since I don't go there anymore guess I'm going to have to invest. Thanks! I am hanging in!!
tenaj ... Today was better, thanks! Trying to remember to take things a day at a time. Thanks for the offer to listen. I'll take you up on that a bit later.
Everybody is doing great. I didn't get my walk in today but I made it 3 times this week and am going to commit to going both days this weekend. I confess I made cookies because my son requested them. I was pretty good and only ate two.
Check in with you later and keep up the good work!!
-
Did lots of yard work today . We are in IN, closing on our house!!!!! Every muscle in my body hurts right now. I hope that is a good thing and that I burned many calories!!!!! Have a great weekend, everyone!!!!Kathy
-
Checking in this evening-----took my walk today, I didnt go to the track just walked closer to home, I dont think it was my usual 2 miles. I walked a little block 3 times around, kept passing a house with a ferocious sounding dog behind a rickety wood fence----sped up the pace and imagined that dog getting out and chasing me. I like the track better! When my daughter got home from school she wanted to go out and run on a bike path in town so I went with her and got a little extra walking in there. It was gorgeous today and she even ran in shorts----in Feb, in Ohio!
I am encouraged this week that I can make changes to my diet. Feeling positive. Plantlover, I dont have a scale either, usually I just can tell by how my clothes are fitting. I think its time to get one. Maybe just check every few days, I tend to want to see results too quickly and then I get discouraged. Maybe I have seen too many informercials promising that you'll lose 2 dress sizes in 10 days. I am not going to watch any of those!
Have a good weekend everyone and hello to anyone new. Are you all going to watch the Superbowl. I like to see the commercials---have seen a few previews, and it looks like there might be some funny ones this year. Laughter is good medicine!!
-
Hi Kindergarten
That sounds like the good kind of sore! Can you believe the weather? I went out in the backyard to fill up the birdfeeders and walked around a little bit. Daffodils are coming up already and there was a snow drop in bloom-----saw some weeds that are poking up in the flower beds but didnt bend over to pull any out. That would have been good exercise.
Congratulations on your new house!
-
Hi, Jaytee, thank you so much for your well wishes. We have moved to CA to be near our sons, and bought a smaller condo. We finally sold our house in IN and came back to close on it next week with the new buyers. We loved the house, but knew we needed to be in CA. We forgot how much work a yard can be. I bet you enjoyed seeing the daffodils!!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!!!! Kathy
-
Kindergarten: That's wonderful about moving to be by your sons . Congrats on your new place. Enjoy but don't over do. Have a great weekend!
-
Thank you, Tenaj!!!! We are done with the yard work!!!!!! Hurray!!!!! It snowed last night, but we are going for a long walk. We actually miss the snow!!!!! Have a great weekend!!!!! Kathy
-
2 days in a row for me!! I did the treadmill for 40 min, little more than 2 miles. Started my fitness pal today, keeping track of calories. I'm hoping this will work. Hope you ladies are taking good care of your self. :-)
-
Kindergarten ... Congrats on finishing your yard work which I know provides a good work out. If it didn't I'd probably have packed on a lot more weight than I have ... yard work, gardening, etc is a passion for me. Wow, you will have a big change in climate from IN to CA. Enjoy the snow while you can. :-)
Jaytee ... Maybe that furious dog is a good incentive ... it made you power-walk, lol. Yep, skip watching those infomercials. So unrealistic! Our weather has been unseasonably warm too. I have bulbs coming up that shouldn't be and flowering trees blooming too early. Oh well, not much I can do about it but I hope it doesn't cause the spring blooms to be too compromised.
tenaj ... You're doing great! Keep it up!
I just got back from a two mile walk with my sweet hubby. That makes 8 miles this week. I'm kinda proud of that. Now I just have to keep it up!
-
Hi, PlantLover!!!! Believe it or not, I was thinking of you as I was doing yard work, we have been in CA, for over a month now and I had forgotten to take apart my planters. They were beautiful this summer!!! The frost and snow we have had definitelynsucked the life out of those beautiful flowers, he,he!!!!!Wow, a two mile walk, you are awesome. We took a long walk this morning, too! Day 3of carb cutting, no excessives cravings yet!!!! Enjoy your weekend!!!! This is such a wonderful thread, we keep each other motivated!!!! Thanks again!!!!!
-
Got into my levis (not my college ones, mind you, but still, that is progress. Got to try to stay motivated and you guys help.
-
Lovemyfamily: Good for you!!! Gotta love those Levi's!!
Plant lover: yard work & gardening is a passion of mine also...I agree it has helped me keep things from being totally out of control.. :-)
Enjoy ladies & keep making those right choices! -
May I join you ladies? I had bilat mx with DIEP reconstruction and now have the mushroom tummy that I'm hating. I lost 13 lbs a few months ago on weight watchers.Since then, I've eaten like a pig and have only gained back 3 lbs. I had a pretty flat tummy coming out of surgery, but where I'm gaining is the top, right under the boobs....Looking like I'm pregnant....Everyone says they can't tell but I'm careful of the tops I wear.
I'm in WV and the weather here has been phenominal too! I have a great place to walk here at home but never take advantage of it.. I also have a treadmill that is a great place to hang my wet bras after I laundry them! So I have no excuse to NOT walk except saying I'm soooo tired when I get in from work.. I know when I do exercise I feel sooooo much better, so why is it so hard to do? I need to loose this tummy, but don't need to loose in the legs. Seems that's where I lost a lot on weight watchers! Also, the arms................yuck!! I've heard we shouldn't lift heavy things with mastectomies, then I read that weights actually helped lymphodema and that they should be ok to use.....I have 2 small weights but haven't ever used them.
Help? Kathy (I see there's another Kathy on here, so I'll call myself Kathy2).
-
Hi ladies, would you let me join in as well. I have the tamoxifen tummy too, I swear in the past year alone it has caused me to put on 20 pounds. uugghhhh I hate it. I am only 5'4 and good lord I weigh 196 f'ing pounds. I walk all the time and I really don't eat that much food, I have no idea why I can't lose this weight. My husband goes walking with me in the evenings, we walk about 3 miles a night, yet here I am getting no where.
I need all the help I can get. I weigh myself just once a week, I can't bear to see what the scales says any more often then that.
-
Evening ladies!
Oops, kindergarten----congratulations on selling your house!!
It must be great to be near your sons, are you loving the weather out in Ca compared to In ?
Sounds like you all did good today----lovemyfamily----yay for getting into the jeans----that is such a great feeling. I can't wait until I can say the same thing. I actually have a whole drawer of various jeans and pants that I havent worn for a long time----just couldnt bear to get rid of them. I'm feeling hopeful.
Welcome mikita and chiefswife---glad that you jumped in----it is so nice to have people encouraging you on, and to realize that we have similar struggles in the battle to lose weight and change our habits to healthier ones. Okay, show of hands everyone----- have you ever used a piece of exercise equipment for other than its intended purpose? my hand is up
I had to get out early today to beat the rain, made it to the track and by the 4th lane it was starting to sprinkle. I got it done though, walked all 8.. Felt good. Weather wasnt as nice but as long as I have gloves on and a scarf or hat, I think I can handle the chillier weather.
Food wise, it was a little more of a struggle today---started out good, got through lunch but I really got hungry in the mid afternoon. I was lazing around a bit more today, I do better when I'm keeping busy. Another thing----there's a bad temptation in the house, husband brought home some paczkis (poonchskis) those Polish jelly doughnuts they sell right now before lent. So far, I have resisted but I must admit that I have looked longingly into the box a couple of times!! Husband ate 3 of them last night ------and he never gains weight------what I would give to have his metabolism!
I like to garden too--------am anxious for spring to get here. Love it when there are fresh vegetables to eat. Last spring, when I was going through radiation, I determined that I was going to plant some sugar snap peas. My garden is not that big but my grandson and I went out there---he dug holes looking for earthworms and I got my little 10 ft row of peas planted. I remember just collapsing on the ground after I was done, it took so much effort for that little row-----its going to be so much better this year. Going to go to bed now---dreaming of spring! Goodnight and God bless to you all!
-
chiefswife
Sounds like you are getting good exercise . Be sure not to stay too hungry, got to give that metablolism something to work on. Glad you are here---you will get a lot of encouragement!
-
Hi, Kathy 2 and Chief's wife, so glad that we can all help each other!!!! Thank you JAYTEE, for your congrats !!!! It has been somewhat stressful having two places and you know that darn stress leads to over eating !!!i definitely have to get the metabolism working!!!! Walking today!!!!! Have a great Sunday!!!!
-
Thank you ladies for the friendly and encouraging welcome, I look forward to joining in and getting to know all of you. I see one of you just moved from Indiana, I think it was Kindergarten, where did you used to live, I am a former hoosier myself. I grew up in Indpls, spent every summer in Brown County at our cabin and then later lived down in Madison for a short while. Indiana will always be home to me.
So I am an emotional eater, if my life is going crappy I'll eat for some comfort and some enjoyment. Usually it's my husband that has me annoyed and since I'm a good cook I want to eat it when it's done.
Just getting on the scales can ruin my whole day, just when I think I have surely lost 2 or 3 pounds I'll get on there to weigh myself and nothing..........not one dumb pound has vanished. So that in itself will cause me to just want to go eat more.
Sundays are my days for thourough house cleaning and that's what I've been doing so far today, the husband is putting up a new back-splash in the kitchen so we won't go walking until this evening. Today I was going to make pork chops, I'm trying to eat more meat because even though it's been 17 months since I did chemo my hair still looks terrible if you ask me. It's really thin on the top of my head, it looks like my part is 2 inches wide. uugghhhh it's enough to make you want to kill someone or something. I've heard eating more protein will help. Guess we'll see.
Besides that thanks again for the kind welcome. I'll be back later.
