02/03/2006...6 years later and I'm still here!!!!
6 years ago (02/03/2006) I heard the dreaded words, "you have breast cancer"....the start of the BC journey.....I endured all the Tx and I'm still here!!!! Of course, I'll do the real celebration in 3 weeks, when I see my onc for my 6 month check up and get confirmation that I'm still dancing with NED!!!
In the past 6 years, I've had the pleasure of seeing my DD#1 graduate college and get married, DS leave high school, work and go to college and be a part of DD#2 Bat Mitzvah and watch her grow into an amazing teen-ager.....and thats just the beginning of things to look forward to.....
I've been thinking of the date all week, but it was not the first thing on my mind when I woke up....the snow storm in Denver was.....watching the weather, GMA and previews of superbowl commericals...it wasn't till I came to the computer and on fb and saw something about the anniversary of fb starting that the date hit me in the face....so that is good!!!
Looking forward to growing into a cranky old lady (instead of a cranky middle age lady)......Karen

Congratulations! Being there for your family is everything! Nowadays when I look at my 2 year old grandson and 6 month old granddaughter it makes me want to be around for many, many years. I hope you have many, many more years ahead. That you get to be a cranky and really, really old lady!

Yay, Karen! Great reason to celebrate. By the way, I'm in Arvada, so I know what you mean about the snow. We have 15 inches now and they're saying up to 15 more by morning. So stay warm and enjoy the peace that snow brings! So happy for you.

I was right behind you on 4/28/06! What a journey it's been, right? I too am happily surprised to still be on this planet - my first goal was to hit my 25-year wedding anniversary in 2009, then to see my driver's license renewed in 2010, and now - well, I'm shooting for age 60 in 2016!
Love to all - Julie

So awesome! I hope all the wonderful women posting anniversaries are also sticking them in the pinned thread - 5 years out. It's my "go to" thread if I'm feeling scared.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and congrats....no one in my house mentioned the date.....I have mixed feelings....do I say something...or just leave it be!!! @Bugs....can't believe how long we have "known" each other....LKC too....and some of the other gals....You have all been a wonderful support...."friends" old and new.....
-
Congratulations to you....wonderful news! I hope you have many more years and many more milestones to see.

Great news, karen1956. I'm so happy for us, and love reading that you're doing well. I know what you mean about the date not being part of the family lore or anything. I'd tell them... or at least ask for a special dinner out or something. It's a big deal to us. Someday we'll be a bunch of very old ladies together, and I bet we won't forget the date even then... well then maybe we will forget, but then who cares??? Hugs and congratulations. G.
-
Congratulations Karen! By all means celebrate this milestone and look forward to many, many more to come! You should definitely drop the hint to your family and let them treat you like Queen for a Day!

-
Hi, Karen Love hearing a 6 year milestone. and we all love that NED SharonH
-
Congrats!
-
Last night just before we sat down for Shabbat dinner, I asked my DH and DD#2 is they knew what the date was.....and DH came over and gave me a hug and kiss....and DD goes, look I made you a card....she has such a sense of humor...its the card she made me last year that has been hanging up on the kitchen wall....she decoared notebook paper and wrote "wishing you love on the anniversary of the most dreadful news" ...there is no date on it, so it is applicable for every year.....
Thanks for all the well wishes...you gals are the best!!!!
-
Karen,
Congratulations on SIX years!!! Best wishes for many, many more milestones to come!!
-
Karen, I'm betting my DS and your DD would get along famously...he sure keeps me laughing.
Gabe has a very interesting take on this 'anniversary'. He says "why celebrate on the day you got diagnosed with a horrible disease?...I choose to celebrate on the date they took it all out" (my surgery came first). I tried explaining that they use the date of diagnosis and he just said "nope, I'll say happy anniversary on Feb 9th".
-
Karen,
Wonderful wonderful news!!! So happy for you!! many many more healthy years to you!
