Wow, women are so powerful in their numbers!!!

I am convinced that women have the power to control where the money goes and to direct much more to research than what Komen is presently doing which is just a mere pittance.

Awesome!!! 

But the long term damage to them will likely be felt for a long time.

             Too late.  Much too late.

             The same people making bad judgments earlier in the week are still running the place.  And the reason given for restoration of funds tells me they are entirely tone deaf and out of touch with reality.  They are more worried about the impact of their stupidity upon their corporate partners than they ever were about the impact on thousands of women.

             No second chances for selling out in the first place.  There are no acceptable excuses.  Going back does not erase history.  There's no undo or redo for bad judgment when the same people execising bad judgment earlier in the week are still running amock a few days later.

              They didn't "hear us."  They didn't hear thousands of women who don't even have a place to voice their concerns and objections.  They heard their corporate partners who were getting squeezed by the public reaction.  Different from hearing any of "us".  We are small potatoes in comparison.

And let's not forget breastcancer.org!  They can use the money, too!

I'm with YorkieMom on this one.  Who is doing the research?  That's who I want to give money to!

Sorry, I did not see this prior to starting a similar thread. This is awesome news for those in need. And I think that many have educated that things are not always as they seem over at SGK. Great decision but the damage to them has been done!

In my community, Planned Parenhood teaches young women through educational programming to stand up for their personal beliefs, think for themselves, and make sure they are intentional in whatever they do.  That, and they provide a huge range of services to low income women.  I am so relieved that Komen saw how important all of these decisions are to all of us.  We are all connected in so many ways.

pompeed - i so agree with you...this must be investigated..where's the money going.  let's can the pink ribbon s*** and find a cure.  sorry, hardly ever post but feeling like  i need to take my stand on this.

Perhaps we should lead an effort to return to the original color as presented to Estee Lauder...peach is the original color.  Out with pink, in with peach.

This whole Planned Parenthood debacle didn't really change my opinion of Komen because I don't have much respect for an organization that is supposedly "for the cure" yet spends less proportionally than many other cancer non-profits on research. The pink washing - approving kentucky fried chicken buckets - really? The lack of support and virtually no research for the women who are actually dying of this disease. My bc sisters who have gone on to Stage IV are virtually ignored in the happy pink survivorship lala land. I'm actually happy that this pr fiasco has opened people's eyes to what Komen is all about. There are many more organizations fighting cancer that deserve the same level of support.

When I was young and uninsured I went to Planned Parenthood for pap smears.  When I had a suspicious result, they arranged for me to be seen at a teaching hospital for free. Many of the opponents say PP doesn't actually provide mammograms.  But they do provide referrals and resources for free and low cost health care.  When I was young and in need of health care I didn't have the ability to locate these resources for myself, and certainly wasn't even aware they were available.  Directing patients to health care they need is a valuable service.

Too much has been revealed about Komen's true nature and true agenda for me to ever trust them again. And while DH is a cop and I am used to firearms around the house, I find this disturbing and distasteful:

Clarice, why is it okay to support giving estrogen to 13-year olds, but not okay to support Kentucky Fried Chicken?  I see some inconsistency here.

I am very disappointed in Komen.  All this proves is that Planned Parenthood and its supporters have enough political power to really kick people around.  It doesn't prove in any way that Komen did the right thing when they reversed their decision.

I will believe they are "sincere" with their apology when more money goes to actual "research for a cure" than advertising/promotions/salaries.  I have no problem with funding PP, awareness and administrative costs...but I do have a problem when so little of my dollar actually goes to finding a cure.  I'm not sure how they are able to call themselves  "Not for Profit". 

Fact:  99% of Make A Wish donations go to an actual "Wish".  Now that's impressive.
