true, you could NOT have done it cold turkey, you would have ended up in the ER. I can't believe you weren't coached on this by your doc!! I am also in the process of weaning myself of Hydromorphone (synthetic morphine) and Toradol. I find I get restless legs at night so I have to take an Oxycontin to stop the spasms. It's been going on for a couple of weeks, mixed in with the flu, so it's been a horrid month. I know EXACTLY what you're going through! This is the first time I've had withdrawal symptoms. I can normally wean myself pretty good, but these were higher doses and for a longer period of time. I, too, hate the weird head feeling!!!

You (and me!!!) are doing GREAT!!!

jbug, the story gets a bit worse Embarassed...we began making out that night until I felt a VERY firey feeling and made him stop!!!! Wowza!!

    cycle-path, thanks!

barbe1958, I also couldn't believe I wasn't coached in this. BTW, according to them I could continue to stay on the pills for lots longer if I wanted, which in a way is respectful of my pain, but in a way not a chec-in with me either to see how I'm doing.  (On the one hand, I hate stingy medicine  -i.e. tylanol only for BIG pain or too few meds. On the other hand, wowzers, these can be powerful and scary meds we're left to figure out on our own too.)

I too have had the flu (or flu-like symtoms) this week and weird stiff sore bones in my legs. But most upsetting for me has been the weird head feeling and the out of wack tummy is second. (I was worried I might have liver toxicity!)

Congrats on your journey through this too. Here is my hand if you need me for anything. We are all sisters on this scary and sometimes hard to tread path.

Yikes!!! on the firey feeling - not being the one you were expecting!!! :-D

trubff, I am sorry you have to do this yourself.  There are medical protocols that have to be followed when titrating off some drugs.  Are you saying your RO prescribed these?  if so, demand that he get you the medical protocol or whoever prescribed them.

I've been on this cocktail of pain meds for about 9-10 months. I have Fibromyalgia mixed with bone issues and had to work for a living. My doc is VERY respectful of my pain and knows I'll wean myself off as I have in the past. I like the way you said "respectful of my pain", I know exactly what you meant.

Our brains are looking around for the next drug.....that's why they're "jiggly". If we don't feed them, they'll relax.

If I'd had a car accident while on all these meds, I would have been considered "impaired". The fact that I could function so well on all the narcotics just told my doc how much pain I was in. I never got "stoned".

cowgirl, thanks. it's probably too late to bother with the RO as, with a little help from my good sisters here, I am doing okay having stepped down and now on my second morning (better by the way, -my leg bones still hurt like the calcium got leached out of them and don't understand that, but it's only been five days of that and it may or may not be related- but better by a long shot from yesterday morning)

oh barbie! 9-10 months! wow. ANd I had trouble after 12 weeks. I SURE know what you mean about when you have pain, the drugs barely seem to touch you beside taking the edge off the pain. I also like how you describe the brain after drugs are gone.  Please keep us informed on how you do with all of this! You have been sooo supportive of me - thank you! I really really needed some reassurance here.

Today, like I said, is better than yesterday. I think in about a week, it will be total history for me. With one big whammy: I now have such an aversion to meds that the very thought of them disgusts me. I wonder how that will affect me if in the future, I ever am in a position to need to take meds like this again. ???

true, every time I get a new drug I research it to the max!! There are so many contraindications that a doctor cannot possibly realize how much a drug may affect you. My doc sits with his big blue bible and looks up each drug as he prescribes it, but it's awfully small print and he's probably only looking at the top side effects. How would he know that I eat eels or something silly like that?? Also, when people take what they consider "natural" supplements, they can interact HORRIBLY with prescription meds. "Natural" supplements come from the same place as all our meds - nature! After all, Aspirin is "made" from birch tree bark (I'm sure it's synthesized by now...). So you MUST tell your dr if you are taking any OTC (over the counter) supplements or additional meds like allergy medication.

We're doing GREAT!! I feel pretty good tonight and think I've finally walked away from the withdrawal and the flu!! I'm right beside you...
