having a first degree relative (your mom)  with a history of bc does double your risk, and the fact that your mom had bc in her 40's is also a factor. It is probably nothing, but it is something you should definitely get checked out by your physician. My mom is a 3 time cancer survivor; bc 25 years ago, colon cancer 10 years ago. I have LCIS (a stage 0, non-invasive bc) and am monitored very closely and take preventative meds. Praying it is nothing and you can just continue being vigilant with your screenings.

Leah - I don't know what type of screening you are having right now, but might I suggest that you go to a breast cancer screening clinic that focuses on higher risk patients. All breast cancer screenings are not alike, and you want to be sure whomever you are going to is top notch. Do you know what your breast tissue is like? Has anyone ever told you it was dense?  If so that might warrant an MRI especially since you are past 50. I, too, come from a high risk family, and I found genetic counseling to be very helpful and surprisingly affordable. I'm sorry I don't know about the pain aspect of it, but a good diagnostic radiologist who specializes in BC screening could tell you.

    Hi Daisy,

Yes i have been told that i do have dence breast ,In fact about a year ago i went and talked with a surgeon because of my concerns with so many Cyst developing in my breast .My Mother kept getting them and back then they often went in and removed them if you were at risk for BC.The last time that some showed up in her breast she had enough with having so many surgeries. It was later found that this was not just a Cyst but she had cancer.I can only imagine the thoughts that ran through my Mothers mind.Thank you so much for your advice.
