Got My Period While On Zoladex

Options

Dear Ladies,

I've been on tamoxifen and zoladex for 2 years and have had, for the last couple of weeks, some "discharge" sometimes tinted pink.  I was experiencing some mild cramping that I associate with getting my period.  Well, last night when I went to the bathroom, it looked like I had faintly started my period and this morning, I have no doubt.

Has anyone else experienced any break-through bleeding or had their period while on Zoladex?

Thank you!

Kat

Time to see a gyncologist and have a trans-vaginal sonogram. I had some uterine thickening and polyps that a D&C took care of. Anytime you see discharge or a change in a clear discharge... It is time for a peek. I am on Lupron..

Thanks, voraciousreader.  Was your uterine thickening a pre-cursor to endometriosis or due to Tamoxifen?  Glad you're okay.

I have contacted my gyn and will call my onc.  I do receive my zoladex every 28 days.  I'm hoping it's just a hormonal glitch and not anything more serious.  It's kind of weird timing as I'm in talks with my onc to interrupt my treatment in the hopes of trying to conceive.  To have this occur now almost seems like a sign that my body is willing and able...

Did you have a baseline trans vaginal ultra sound before you started? I had polyps removed shortly before diagnosis.. And then they gre back along with some thickening. I was staining on and off before each D & C. I am scheduled for my 6 month post D& C check up shortly. No surprises lately...

My thickening was due to Tamoxifen.

I did not have any vaginal ultra sound.  Is that standard procedure?  I switched hospitals midway before my surgeries and it seems like they missed some tests.  The gyno's nurse seemed to be not very concerned unless I was profusely bleeding.

How long have you been on Tamox?

Katherella70 - I was wondering what happened with this? I know it was almost 5 years ago! I am zoladex and just switched to exemestane due to the new study that showed this was better than tamoxifen in the summer. I was late on my zoladex injection by a couple of weeks because of the holidays and got it early January. I had some cramps the last few days and moodiness and thought it odd as it felt like my body was gearing up for a period. This morning I woke up with a period. I've been on Zoladex for about 4 years and have not had this happen. It's also odd that just like you, I'm gearing up to go off medication soon to try for a baby.

    Hi fd1,

In my case, it turned out NOT to be a period. I bled moderately then abnormally and a sizable polyp (proving the smart voraciousreader correct!) was found that could only be removed with a D&C. My onco said this can happen from Tamoxifen.

Relationship turned directions, so trying for a baby came to a screeching halt. Since that time, I now have metastatic cancer but all is stable. I am now back on Zoladex and this time Letrozole, which I am tolerating much better.

Wishing you all the best for your baby-making. :)

    ((((Hugs)))))
