Pain in ankle

Options

I have been having pain in my ankle for a few months and just went to Ortho for xray. It came back as osteochondral lesion.  I am getting an MRI this week to make sure it is nothing serious. Does anyone know if cancer can form in the ankle? I appreciate your help! PS the pain is on the bottom of the little ball on the outside of ankle.

sanbar - from what I understand it would be very unusual that far down the leg.  Hoping it is a completely separate problem - not that I want you to have that either!

SpecialK, I really, really hope it is nothing but that osteochondral lesion or something with the tissue. I can live with ankle pain as long as its not cancer. I will keep you posted on the results.  It probably does not help that I am still running on the ankle. But I did give my ankle 4 weeks rest when I had my exchange surgery. So... we will see. Thanks for responding. Julie

No problem - I have pain in a plethora of locations due to Femara so I had already researched this - as you know, bone or joint pain is scary!  Is there a plan for further assessment?

I am going to get an MRI on thursday to rule out cancer. So far, I have not had too much pain other than my body feeling like its 80 when I'm only 34. Im sorry you have pain on femara. I am on zoladex and tamox right now and just have the occasional aches. I think its nothing... Im just being paranoid. :(

    Sanbar,

It is very rare for cancer to form below the knee (I like to be rare myself). And since you're a runner it is very likely that your injury is related to that (torn ligament, etc). That's what it looks like to the radiologist too from the sounds of the xray report.

Itks good that you're getting it checked but I don't think it's likely to be cancer (my unexpert medical opinion lol).

    Good Luck.

I was in the ER last week because of severe knee pain. Of course, I was worried about mets, too, even though I know it is rare to start so far down on leg. Well, it is a torn meniscus and sprained MCL. I am having knee surgery next week. But it's not cancer, so I'm fine with having knee surgery. Hope your ankle is "just" an ankle problem, too. :)

thankful - great that your knee problem is indentified - sorry it is a surgical fix.  I had that surgery many years ago and had no further problems with that knee - hope the same for you!

i doubt if it's cancer.. especially if you run.

good luck.  ia'd take surgery any day over cancer.

    Hello,

Sanbar, I know this is a super old post, but I don't see any more posts, and I am interested in what your outcome ended up being. After months of pain and misdiagnoses, I have also just been diagnosed with osteochondral defect from an MRI. Trying to be my own advocate, and I believe this includes consulting my "sisters."

    Thanks,

    Liza
